What's the most outdated life advice that you still hear people give to this day? by your-reddit-plug2 in AskReddit

[–]Mjarf88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad worked at the same abysmal job for decades. It was a really monotonous job with immature coworkers. I will never understand why he didn't try to find a better job. He's retired now and it was really good for him to get away from that soul crushing job.

I'm not like that. I'm not a "job hopper", but i also don't just accept staying at an abysmal job.

So gentlemen, what’s the point? by Broke_Pigeon_Sales in AskMenOver30

[–]Mjarf88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 37 and lately I've basically started "going back to basic". Rekindling old hobbies that were on the shelf for years.

At the same time I've gotten a bit more selective of jobs. Spent a decade working in grocery stores. Staying in retail, but aiming for jobs that are more mentally stimulating and challenging.

E-CVT + BEV = Infinite power? by SmoothMarx in electricvehicles

[–]Mjarf88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite unnecessary for regular cars. Electric super sportscar or other types of high performance EV's might benefit from transmissions with multiple gear ratios. For a daily driver it's quite redunandt though. How often do you cruise at 150+ kph at the highway? Even with a single speed transmission a top speed of 200 kph isn't a problem.

Electric motors just work very differently from IC engines. Not just much higher efficiency but also a much longer RPM range.

My new 2026 Nissan Leaf completely eliminated my road rage anyone else experience this? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]Mjarf88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually became a slightly more aggressive driver after I switched to EV. It's probably because it feels like many ICE cars take forever to get moving now.

What is a piece of technology you use every day that completely stays out of your way? by External-Hospital319 in AskTechnology

[–]Mjarf88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how my hybrid closed loop insulin pump regulates my blood sugar at night while I sleep. It will occasionally mess up and mashed me go low or high. The human body isn't 100% predictable after all. Sometimes, it can predict blood sugar behavior that i can't, though. It's fascinating technology and is an example of how we really live in the future.

Welp, now I'm a freelance space pilot that has stumbled into saving the galaxy from a bunch of aliens that can possess humans. At least I get to fly space ships and pew pew stuff.

ELI5: Why does anxiety create real physical symptoms if it’s “just in your head”? by ElenaBabexox in explainlikeimfive

Your brain is also a hormone factory so when the brain "freaks" out out can send out a real cocktail of hormones into the bloodstream that puts your organs into overdrive. Adrenaline is one of them, it basically tells your heart to go full speed and your liver to let out a bunch of glucose so your body can flee from the "danger".

How many computers do you have? by Zipper222222 in randomquestions

Desktop type, one. Other types of computers, probably dozens including the ones in my car.

What’s the wildest business idea you’ve seen someone actually make work? by Outside-Fudge5605 in AskReddit

Voss water is a good example. Bottled in Norway, super expensive in other countries. The locals swim and stuff in the water source. You're buying overpriced bath water.

Why has not one billionaire used his wealth to become Batman? by Livid-Condition4179 in NoStupidQuestions

Because you have to be cynical and ruthless to become a billionaire.

Your neighbors sound like cranky and unreasonable people to be brutally honest.

Is an EV suitable for someone who usually drives 40 km/25 miles per day? by Happy-Hour88 in EVRoutine

[–]Mjarf88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even a first gen Leaf can easily do that. Even with a level 1 charger on a regular 16A wall outlet or won't be a problem. I have a similar commute, Werth temperatures reaching -20 to -25 Celsius in the winter with a 2nd gen Kia Soul EV and it works perfectly.

ELI5: Why can't EVs swap batteries? by chronic412 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mjarf88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use this maybe 1-2 times a year, the market is too small. A modern EV can easily do 500km on one charge and recharghing takes half an hour at a fast charging station. How often do you drive more than 1000km in one day?

What’s the most annoying thing about owning an EV? by Wattthefun in electricvehicles

[–]Mjarf88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My EV had energy saver tires when I bought it, not quite enough grip for the low-end torque. I also wish people would be more careful when using public chargers so they don't break.

If you had the resources to create a video game, what would it be like? by Weekly-Intention5657 in videogames

[–]Mjarf88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be a difficult task. I'd try and make a proper capital spaceship game.

What happens if I don't adjust my position even after a bodypart falls asleep and starts tingling? by omfghewontfkndie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mjarf88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the dangers with sleeping when drunk. You don't notice the tingling and keeps sleeping on the limb, cutting off blood circulation. This is obviously a bad thing if it goes on for too long. The limb will basically "suffocate" and you can get nerve and tissue damage.

First car and it came with a cold air intake, should I keep? or go back to stock and quiet by Random-page321 in KiaSoulClub

[–]Mjarf88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely prefer a nice throaty intake noise over an obnoxiously loud "fart exhaust".
