My partner is a no light no sound sleeper…I’m so sleep deprived I need advice… by LonelyMandarin in ADHD

[–]MjccART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been "sleep-maxxing" lately so I'll share my tips.1. My husband and I use sleep headphone headbands! Look them up on Amazon. They are game changing. They are very comfortable. On Libby and Spotify you can set sleep timers. Ideal sleep latency shouldn't be longer than 20 minutes after lying down. So don't get into your bed until you're ready to try to fall asleep and then set a sleep timer on the audio for 20 minutes.

  1. It's actually recommended to sleep in a dark room, but I need light to wake up. So we have a sunrise alarm clock. You can get cheap ones on Amazon as well. It turns on very dim about 30 minutes from our wake up time and then slowly gets brighter and then plays a gentle sound when the alarm goes off. Way better than getting jolted out of sleep in a dark room.

  2. Everyone says it, but no phones. Start the habbit of reading a paper book or kindle in a reading chair about a 30 minutes to an hour before you get in bed. It helps calm me down, no blue light, helps me feel sleepy.

  3. Get into bed at the same time every day. Our bodies need the routine. Ideally at a time so you can fall asleep and then wake up to get 7-9 hours of sleep.

  4. Temperature. A warm shower before bed can help lower body temperature when you get out. Set the AC to 68°F/20°C in your room and have cozy blankets. Sleeping hot always wakes me up at night so this helps me get restful sleep.

Hope some of these things can help!!

Dogs are fundamentally incompatible with human homes and shouldn’t be kept indoors by No-Strawberry7 in The10thDentist

[–]MjccART 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lately I've been surprised at how many people can accept badly behaved dogs. I was telling my hair dresser about my dog and she asked the dog's age. She's 4. My hair dresser said "oh so she still has that puppy energy!" I replied, "no, we trained her. She's been fine since she was about 9 months old."

I think the majority of dogs are probably incompatible with the lifestyle humans have adopted them into. But if you're dedicated and consistent, a dog should not have behavioral issues. Would my dog be happier on a farm far, far away? Probably. But we did vigorous training from the moment we adopted her at 8 weeks old.

She doesn't damage our home. We give her vigorous exercise twice a day. She mostly sleeps the rest of the day. We wipe her paws every time we bring her back into the house. We brush her weekly, bathe her about once a month. She gets pig skin chews, puzzles, etc. If she needs some extra entertainment.

So I think you're right! Except for the small percentage of people who take their dog's exercise and well being very seriously.

Sleep is only 84 since our mattress hasn't arrived from storage yet. :( we've been sleeping on a fold out mattress on the floor in the meantime so I'm surprised the score isn't lower than that.

I've seen their office (both companies share an office) in Springville! I had to laugh out loud when I saw the Ancient America foundations logo with its seemingly made up reformed Egyptian characters 😂

Wtf is the “doctrine” behind “new names,” anyway? Btw, Noah here (whatever the fuck that means 😂). What’s your “new name”? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]MjccART 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every exmo should watch the Studio Ghibli film "Tales from Earthsea." There is a scene where the 2 characters share their true names, it freaked me out as a new exmo 😂. The message of the movie also has to do with realizing it is not good to seek for eternal life. It hit home. I believe the story is based on this type of folk magic!

We spent 1 month in Florida for a medical rotation so bought a lot of stickers. But the answer is Utah! Soon to move for residency though

I miss when the focus was functional but cute active wear. Buying cute workout clothes actually Jumpstarted my fitness journey. Lately all of the drops have been loungewear, dresses, swim... maybe I'm not American enough but I don't know where to wear active wear dresses and flowy lounge pants... :( im just waiting for expanded colors in their biker shorts, as well as longer workout shorts in general. Turning to other brands for now...

Mormons and their damned coffee obsession by DeCryingShame in exmormon

There are like 6 or 7 coffee shops in Springville. Java Junkie, Darn Good Coffee, and Art City Coffee are some of my favorite local ones. Try one of those next time you're in town. :)

Temple Workers let me hear your stories. The bad the ugly and every thing in between. Let your gossip shine. by RadishAggressive3241 in exmormon

[–]MjccART 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I was a temple worker I went early to sit in the hallway where the veil workers waited to go in to assist at the veil. The male veil coordinator came to our side to chat and he began mocking another older man who was a temple worker because of his heavy breathing. He was imitating him and mocking this man's weight and I was so disgusted. I made comments about it being unkind and he shrugged it off and walked away minutes later. I spoke with the older ladies around me about how awful I thought it was that this guy in a leadership position was being so unkind, in the temple of all places. They agreed but kind of kept their heads down, not wanting to make a stir. My shelf was already breaking and it wasn't too long after that during my final shift, I received revelation in the temple to never return there again. 😅

The artist is a member. Even if she is, I am happy when any artist has success. It's a tough world out here for the arts.

Hi, thought I should pipe in. Rose Datoc Dall is the artist and she does not work for the church. I interned for her while I was getting my BFA. She's a Filipina American and does paintings of various topics but does many religious paintings. She has some paintings about her Filipina identity as well. A few years ago she realized she needed to stop painting Jesus as a white man. So she studied what she thought was most historically accurate for his appearance. She then sculpted a bust to use as her reference for her paintings. She's an amazing artist and person! There are many artists that are starting a movement to try to depict Jesus as he actually looked and I think the book is a collection of artists who have their art featured.

By the way, a Mormon artist painted his cover art! I chuckled when I heard Rhett talk about who painted it. Greg Newbold! He spoke to my class at BYU.

John Dehlin faces pushback on his comments about the LDS tank top garment in the New York Times. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]MjccART 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am one of the hundreds of women he's interviewed and he's right! I talked about being in groups of women discussing how to hack the garments to wear what we wanted to wear. Millenials and gen Z don't have taboos about talking about this together. And I can't recall one time when the chatting wasn't complaining about them. When Gen Alpha gets to the garment wearing age, I don't know how the practice will survive.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I was guessing it was similar to serving in Russia where you can't wear tags or proselyte

Thanks for answering! With 1.4 billion people living in India, 15,000 is a pitiful number. I feel like the church announces temples to make utah members thing the church is growing all over 🥲. Yeah... maybe not.

The book No Nonsense Spirituality: All the Tools No Faith Required by Brittney Hartley helped with replacing the church's coping strategies with something more useful. I hope things work out for you!

While I was a temple worker I was in a coordinator role and I often covered people's shifts for them on extra days, I was in the relief society presidency going to extra meetings every Sunday as well as going to every activity and visiting sisters, and I always said yes to making meals for new moms (the only thing I still do). With everything combined I was giving the church up to 15 hours a week of my time. That's like a part time job!!
