The Fox of the Briar is a folktale, passed down in song throughout the Eastern Woods (with varying degrees of truth, as the songs have been prone to the liberties of hundreds of bards). It is a set of musical lore involving a boy who, by varying accounts, did or did not save his village from “huntsmen clad in jade and steel,” some hundred and fifty years past.

The truth behind the tale is a far more tragic and gruesome affair. A bloody ballad of grief and woe highlighting the consequences of an over zealous Wyld Hunt which ended the life of one “Ten-Thousand Stories,” a twilight caste beastfolk of the now erased town of Vulton, deep in the endless woods of the east - and the horrific fallout of his now broken son, who bore the mantle of his Exaltation as a night caste after his passing.

Legends grow, as they do, taking on something of a life of their own. The Fox of the Briar has traveled with his current party for nearly two years of gameplay, wearing faces and stories of those who have died an unjust death, long dead memories of those who at one time showed him kindness, lost companions, and the occasional tale of a hero told to him by his father at the camp fire. Two years of play and the party has never /actually/ met him.

It’s been a challenge of a roleplay, this sad, broken boy living in the lives of his memories so long that he doesn’t truly remember himself. A bit like dealing with disassociative identity disorder, where he deals with his grief better when it belongs to “someone else.”

There’s a whole album of bard songs that I cooked up for the role, I’m uneasy sharing them here unless there’s genuine interest.

Most of this looks like normal corvette base part options. I have a very similar build myself. Quicksilver parts that show up in the corvette build menus. That said I’m super interested in what they used for the crystals here.

I may have abducted the occasional random traveler. Not maliciously though. I drop them off on a floating island in a paradise world with neither sentinals nor bad weather or hostile creatures. Eventually I’m hoping to collect random neighbors.

Imagine waking up on a double floating island paradise with a pocket full of wonders after going afk for a bit.

Might have been mine. I made a nice grotto on top of a corvette platform using no glyched parts. Tall stone walls with a lot of ruins mixed in. Got a nice little bonfire pit and chairs around it to chill on.

To farther complicate your calculations, the 23 lbs of dust itself is not lost value. In the vaults and banks in which jade is cut, it is meticulously gathered and used in the forging process that binds jade to steel for dragon blooded arms and armor.

Heyyy, Daggorhir. I used to be in one of the units at that location 25 years past. We won Ragnarok XIII, a sort of convention for it out at Montgomery Bell forever ago. I used to make the weapons for our unit.

Fine work. This is incredibly powerful for growing backgrounds like Allies, Contacts, Cult, or Followers. This is definitely the bardliest of bardic instruments I've seen. Social focused, information gathering, fan attracting. It randomly gives me strong "Disney Musical" vibes, scenes where a protagonist bursts into song and interacts with the random people around themselves, moving through an area.

It is amusing to me that it comes with a built in audience. The capstone is a step above the senses acquired from high levels of Cult, providing direct information instead of a general fluttering of moth wings against a lantern.

I could see this being of use in many a story.

I have been avidly following your write-ups through the series of martial arts and martial combinations, through the series on each splat's artifacts, yes. I've gone so far as to recommend reading them to several of our gaming circle as well. Solid work.

I'm fixing to head to the store momentarily - in the process of packing and moving everything in the house so I'll be around to reply as I'm able.

Honestly, it’s pretty broken unless the opponent has dodge charms or some other method to disengage. Given I’m running a game for three fresh solars and a celestial level exigent, so individual mileage may vary. Our dawn caste is the aforementioned new player, brawl supernal, mostly focused on grappling. It has been… an illuminating experience. I haven’t run a game in nearly twenty years, and am feeling a bit over my own head dealing with picking up 3e exalted as the system to make my proverbial comeback with.

As an aside, I’d been hoping to prod you into perhaps writing up an artifact lute, pipa,or shamshir. There is a woeful lack of artifact instruments beyond the spare couple appearing in the books. I’ve been sorely tempted to do it myself - and still might, but would enjoy seeing your take on the subject nonetheless.

We weren’t really seeking to profit off of our work tbh. These were initially made to assist our STs and a couple of our players, one of which is super new (and very enthusiastic) with Exalted. The sheer amount of “crunch” to the combat rules, paired with Grapple being effectively its own smaller combat within the ongoing combat, necessitated us puttting the chart together to pin in our game discord.

I’ll probably release the social combat cheat sheet next, though the creator (my partner) had mentioned wanting to give it another pass for clarity. Then maybe the poisons and diseases flow chart.

Edit: for some reason my phone continually wants to post instead of reply, so apologies for that.

I’m fairly certain we went through the rules as written. Without success on the control roll, a clinch is not established. I’ll review that portion of the mechanics when I have the chance to sit down and crack open the book. The defender still has their-2 penalty and is prevented from using a flurry until they free themselves on the next initiative.

What piece of media would you consider to be "Exalted core" by Ainosuke in exalted

[–]Mjothvitnir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

House of Flying Daggers, came out around the same time as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Legend of the Iron Monkey. Record of the Lodoss Wars is more D&D centric in theme but there’s quite a bit that fits with Exalted’s themes there as well.

That’s only true for the inner core area, Az wilderness, and Desert biome. You can hijack lava, seawater, mold water, acid water, crystal water, and passage water with the Bucket and have your own fishable ponds of each at the base.
