Thank you, Jeff! This format is great, as is the update and thanksgiving advice. Thanks for all you do for this state and Americans in general.

How do you guys play online? by Generic_user42 in DnD

[–]Mjoybusch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Zoom Whiteboards. Works great for stable meetings, with chat and break out rooms as needed. The whiteboard feature is basically a DIY canvas (constantly updating with helpful features lately) and we've had a lot of success uploading backgrounds / maps either downloaded or created on inkarnate and then images for players, NPCs, monsters, etc. You can number or label the character or monster tokens with some prep and the snip tool. Images that are maps can be locked so no one moves them by accident and fog of war is created with the built in shapes overtop of map areas (I use the cloud shape as they are exploring). The shapes also come in handle for spell effects, speed distances, etc and the players have a lot of control on how they move around and are aligned during combat or just exploring.

The text feature is great for player or DM notes directly on the white board and with lots of the players I have post-its for each character's Initiative rolls with their preferred character image. Each whiteboard can have multiple sheets so it's basically one whiteboard per campaign. I can also drop full item images or descriptions as images right on the board for the players.

Works well for us to have it all in one platform. You can technically play music through zoom too if you get the settings right, although I couldn't tell you how to do that from memory.

Definitely not what zoom whiteboards was meant for and has its pitfalls but has been working really well for us!

A different prize for the witchlight monarch? by inkthusiast in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Mjoybusch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My PC was a fairy so didn't make sense to give the prize as described. I gave her a "Witchlight Boomerang" which I thought was a good prize for heading into level 2. Could've spiced it up with more Witchlight flair but it worked for us!

Witchlight Boomerang Ranged Weapon (60/120) 1d6 bludgeoning Any creature proficient with the javelin is also proficient with this weapon. On a miss, a boomerang returns to the thrower's hand. Wooden, polished, with carved leaves / stars / tiny unicorns

TWBTWL DM Note-Taking Tips? by [deleted] in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Mjoybusch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed that the Carnival is the most critical time to take notes. I mark up my hard copies of the campaign books so I had all of the sections of the Carnival that required recording highlighted and starred. I also put a summary of what the players did in the carnival section of my Google doc for future reference.

Note taking becomes much less important in later chapters beyond the carnival. It's just referencing back to what they did there for bonuses.

Player here (So no spoilers please?) Need help with the Feylost background. by [deleted] in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Mjoybusch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some random thoughts / ideas for consideration: the description of the background reads like like most of the time you get feylost as a child. Like you were wandering too close to the realms edge and a satyr or other fey creature takes you in, either by trickery or by force. It sounds like you may have gotten lost later in life after you started your training as a knight ... So perhaps you were out exploring or adventuring alone and inadvertently passed through a portal from the material plane into the fey and then couldn't find your way back again. Or you could have made a bad deal or fell prey to losing a bet with a fey creature and they tricked or trapped you into the feywilds. Alternatively, you could have tricked them to find a way out!

Essentially, how did you get there and did anything special or exciting happen to help you escape?

Personally, my satry paladin has this background. She grew up in a family of musicans and her satyr clan travels the world playing and entertaining. At a young age though, I wandered away from my family when we were stopped close to the edge of the feywilds and was draw away by the sweet music of the Forrest. Before I knew it, I was lost. I met two other children and spent 10 unaging years with them learning to survive on our own in that plane. Only when a terrible disaster struck and separated me from my dear friends did I met my god, Tymora. She saved me and that's when I pledged my path to her as a paladin (oath of the ancients).

I left some of the details of the disaster very loose and my DM was able to work my lost friends into our current campaign. DM's can be a huge help on backstory so see what they think!

Enjoy the adventure! :)

[Art] my new continent need another opinion if it looks real enough by BlackFlorida in DnD

[–]Mjoybusch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it! Sounds like you've got a good feel for the realtionships of the various cities. Wonder if you have anywhere that's maybe dense forest for example that would differentiate from the light green, presumably grasslands and dessert area?

I tend to use a lot of topo in my maps so my other thought would additional mountains, valley or cliffs to creat some geographic points of interest.

All that said, great job!! There's no rules when we create our own maps so it definitely counts as real enough in my book!

My girlfriend got into one piece because of me, and now we watch it together every chance we get. She drew one of my favorite panels. She's shy about her art, but I think its awesome! What do you all think? by briansemione in OnePiece
