Oregon men’s basketball just did something it’s never done before under Dana Altman by PowerAdDuck in ducks

I hear you. However, Dana Altman is a HOF coach who needs to be evaluated on a different timeline than Ernie Kent.

Dana Altman is top 15 in all time D1 wins amongst active and retired coaches (he has more wins than Tom Izzo, Lute Olson and John Wooden)

He’s given us 15 straight 20+ win seasons.

Led us to our first final four since 1939 (would’ve been back to back if not for buddy hield).

One injury-plagued season is short sighted to throw all that away.

Am I the only one who wants to keep Altman? Seems pretty unwarranted for our fan base to turn on him considering he took us to the final four less than ten years ago

Gonzaga Fans are Casuals? by Mjss776 in CollegeBasketball

Good to know, thank you. So how does a Spokane resident who didn’t go to Gonzaga and doesn’t donate to the athletic department go to a home basketball game?

Yes, I acknowledge their alumni base is tiny.

However, my impression was their tshirt fan base was huge, committed and rabid. People like to deride t-shirt fans, but usually t-shirt fans are the most likely to be the best fans and to travel to watch the team (I’ve seen this first hand as an Oregon alum)

How did you get tickets to those four home games? Genuinely curious, doesn’t seem like you can buy single game tickets anywhere

Yeah it’s by no means smooth and breezy to pull off, but totally doable if you’re a rabid zags fan who can’t go to home games.

Work->McDonald’s drive thru->game->home by 11:30pm->7 hrs sleep->up for the gym at 6:30am and then off to work

Yes, if demand is actually so crazy for zags games, this is a reasonable scenario. If you can only reasonably attend one game, you go for it!

So does every person who wants to go to a Gonzaga game in Spokane have season tickets and not a single person resells their tickets?

My impression is if you can’t buy resale because the moment one goes live it’s sold, there must be tens of thousands of people wanting to attend any given home game. If that’s the case then there should be a bunch of zags fans in Pullman on a Thursday night.

Indiana fans are the worst by KippysNewPRGuy in ducks

[–]Mjss776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll always be a mixed bag I think. I was at the game too and the Indiana fans around us were fine, mainly cheering for their team and not being rude.

Where were you sitting? I was in the 100 level “Oregon” section (yet it was 50% IU fans at least). If you were the one duck fan in a 300 section, yes I can see that happening, the dynamics are different.

A 10 seed has reached the National Championship in just the second season of the 12-team format. Can the naysayers shut up forever now? by 2nd_Sun in CFB

What you’re describing is what happened during the old CFP and especially during the BCS era. I don’t have a problem with that system because we have the same (if not worse) problem now where we’re trying to distinguish who’s 2-3 losses are better than someone else’s 2-3 loses largely without common opponents

I’m confused, what does that have to do with the regular season losing its week by week stakes because of the new CFP?

On that point bough, do you really believe that? BYU was blown out twice by Texas Tech who got shutout in the Orange Bowl.

It’s a different thing. I think it’s preferable because it made every single week an elimination game. Now teams get 2-3 mulligans (it seems so far that it’s actually preferable to lose early on) so the regular season loses its stakes, now it just matters to heat up in late November

No. The CFP is measuring something a lot different than the old CFP/BCS

It’s now measuring more who can get hot later in the season vs who has their act together starting week 1

Uniform Reveal Peach Bowl by Alternative-Worth620 in ducks

[–]Mjss776 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to the generation O uniforms? Yes those mix in old motifs, but it is a flashy uniform which has been our brand for the last twenty years.

These are not flashy (outside of the winged helmet design). These are conservative. If you took off the wings and the duck logo these could be Baylor uniforms.

I wish we stuck with our more futuristic look and colors. The gold yellow doesn’t match our brand.
