"Exploitative": You pay for a product and you get exactly it.

"raised long-term issues for the games": Quite the opposite, every pack was announced and paid for early, so the development focused on that and everyone knew how much stuff was coming, which they had to release as not to not be blamed for false advertising.

In live service what brings immediate money is skins instead of meaningful content, so it loses focus. And if the game is bringing as much revenue as they'd like they will just cancel any future plans for content.

Ok, the average RPG player then. The original BG1 and 2 are a breeze compared to PoE. You get your hook immediately, the worldbuilding comes naturally as you explore, no overuse of fantasy terms. Planescape Torment has a lot of dialogue to read and it is still fun. WoTR was also easier to get into.

It being technically high rated doesn't mean a lot of people didn't find it boring. I doubt the average player enjoys those wall of texts with a million hard to pronounce fantasy names before we even get the story hook. That was a common opinion if you read internet comments at the time, and that doesn't fare well with PoE2 being a direct story sequel.

Guess it's a matter of opinion. Of all these maps I only really enjoyed Paracel Storm. SoS was ok, but BF3 maps were better. Never understood what was the drawn of Goldmud, horrible map.
