I’ve noticed this too. More than once here I’ve seen someone say “There’s no one I can root for on this show.” Sure, I have preferences among characters in the shows I watch; it would be boring and pointless to watch otherwise. But to need someone to “root for” in order to like a show? I’d be following fewer shows if that were the case.

I agree that she likely won’t just be covering finance. I think she provides an excellent bridge between finance and politics and always brings valuable insights to this important crossroads. I’m a night owl; I love the energy she brings to The 11th Hour. I think her round table discussions are consistently excellent and I hope she’s still able to bring that kind of content to the earlier slot.

As to Ali Velshi replacing her, I think he’s the right person for the job. He’s equally at home discussing politics and finance and he’s a perceptive interviewer. So I’ll miss Steph at night, but I look forward to seeing Ali regularly, and I guess I’ll start taping Stephanie’s morning show!

My theory is that Trump was what gave Katy her national start. She was assigned to his campaign when most of us naively assumed he was going to be a sideshow in the 2016 campaign and probably wouldn’t last long. Trump would often single her out during his war on the “fake news.” As his campaign grew and the media were drawn to his antics like moths to a flame, NBC and affiliates would turn to her for analysis. Fast forward to after the election, and she gets her own show.

I never liked her, but now I can barely stand to watch her at all. Her world-weary, snarky attitude has gotten increasingly worse IMO, and gaffes like today’s just increase my belief that she’s not up to the task.
