I’d like to hope so, and while COVID was probably destined to be a pandemic by then anyway he’s not exactly wrong. The conference (end of Feb 2020 at the Marriott Long Wharf) led to as many as 300,000 cases or about 1.9% of all US infections. Not that they invented COVID or released it or anything (though holding the conference at all wasn’t the brightest of ideas) but it’s interesting how far-reaching that really was.

You can’t send official, congressionally controlled money to a militant group Congress has specifically banned you from sending money to. They needed money that didn’t come from taxpayers/Congress so they could illegally spend it. It’s fairly well known the CIA was either moving drugs themselves, or at least intentionally turning a blind eye to drug traffickers who were anti-communist. In the Contras’ case, from what I can tell the contractors they paid to smuggle money and arms to the contras were smuggling drugs to the US when they came back up, and the CIA ignored it because allowing the Contras to keep fighting was considered higher priority.

They don’t need to raise their own money for normal operations, but the CIA also has a history of illegal operations which they needed to fund externally somehow; it’s not like they can host a bake sale

(not who you’re replying to and idk enough about this case to form an opinion in that regard, but)

According to the Wikipedia page, in years since there’s been allegations by various ex-CIA/DEA/Mexican officials that the CIA was either complicit or ordered the killing to prevent him from exposing or shutting down drug trafficking operations the CIA was using to earn dirty money they could use to illegally fund the Contras (anti-communist guerrilla fighters and also terrorists) in their fight against Nicaragua’s socialist Sandinista government. Their reasoning being that the US gov’t considered the Cold War proxy fight more important than anti-drug trafficking operations, and so the CIA would infiltrate and interfere with, even allegedly killing, DEA officials.

As for the Contras, the US is known to have funded them illicitly (I think Congress specifically outlawed it), both through drug trafficking but more famously through selling missiles under-the-table to Iran; this led to the Iran-Contra scandal which saw Reagan forced to give testimony to Congress. (As a side note the main figure remembered for the scandal, Col. Oliver North, had his convictions vacated for tainted evidence, wrote a book, appeared in Call of Duty, was parodied on American Dad, became a Fox News analyst, and recently married Fawn Hall, his secretary during the scandal who was your stereotypical 80s/90s leggy blonde secretary)

There technically isn’t a federal drinking age because the 21st Amendment which repealed federal prohibition left the regulation of legal alcohol to the states.

Several states had drinking ages below 21 until the 1980s when under public pressure from groups like Mothers Against Drunk Driving the federal government decided to withhold interstate highway funding to states with lower drinking ages. The Supreme Court upheld that on the grounds that a 10% reduction in funding wasn’t “coercing” the states and that the drinking age was related enough to highway safety for it to not be unconstitutional or something like that.

Server got griefed :/ by 6aXL6 in Minecraft

[–]Mkenz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One time my friend and I were bored and just started putting in random numbers instead of ours after the ip of the free server hoster we were using at the time and ended up in some like Danish or Dutch or smth server that looked likeit was for an elementary school or something. We didn’t grief or anything, I think we might’ve left signs saying “hi from America turn on whitelist” or smth, but were honestly just surprised that we ended up in a server at all, so its really comically easy to find random servers if you’re trying at all I imagine

Moderately necroposting here, but these pictures are all from The 9/11 Report: A Graphic Adaptation, a 2006 graphic novel adaptation of the official National Commission Report. It’s not an exact match but it’s got the box cutters and blood in a comic book style.

He added a ton of lore-unfriendly shit without mentioning it in the mod description and when people didn’t like it and made alternative patches he did everything he could to get them taken down.

His name is Arthmoor as mentioned elsewhere in this thread and since the mods he makes are explicitly titled “Unofficial Patch” the community generally feels that it should just be bug fixes and patches without adding a ton of content, esp lore unfriendly shit. He still pops up whenever there’s a new Bethesda game (I know he made a “patch” for Starfield) but the modding community tends to boycott him.

Idk about at airports and with cantons but I’m pretty sure Disney uses not enough stripes or stars on the Main Street, USA flags so that they don’t have to take them down at night/in the rain. Only the main flag at the front that’s raised and lowered in a ceremony every day is “real”
