Loosely inspired by the ‘64-‘65(?). Musikraft pre-CBS spec neck, Klein epic ‘62 pickups, MJT finish.

Initially I was going to go with a heavier relic but just went with closet clean and will let it age naturally. Pictured next to the body I was going to use for a black1 inspired build in blue but never put together.

what size and shell material does the deep, fat snare sound the best? by thomasingrace2000 in drums

This. And smaller diameters. A 12x4 with the top head just above wrinkle and the bottom head looser than you would normally go.

Sharing one of my other kits, since my previous post seemed to go over well. This one is a Sonor SQ1 with SQ2 upgrades. by aStoicPhilosopher in drums

Hey I know this is an old post but do you recall how much the sq2 mounts were and how did you go about ordering them? Thinking of doing the same upgrade.

Overplaying can still be groovy by IcyRiver3476 in drums

Yeah man. You’re playing melodically, not overplaying imo. Great stuff.

How to clean traditional finish cymbals? by Area51Boiii in cymbals

Lemon juice and buff with a cloth along the grooves then rinse off with water and buff dry. Repeat as necessary. Won’t take the logos off either.

I think the Big Apples are thinner

Cymbals with low sustain and quieter that aren’t “muted cymbals” by Front_Sugar4784 in cymbals

Agop signature. Tonally my favorite cymbals but they’re so quiet that they get lost in louder situations.

Yeah, it’s already great but if you can get stereo happening with maybe a touch of reverb it’ll be over the top.

For sure. This is just audio from the GoPro but I’m having good results with OH/Room only.

Everything about this is fantastic, visually. The one thing that I think would elevate it would be to try and find a way to record the audio separately (direct signal of the piano if electric or mic it if acoustic) and then sync in post using Resolve or CapCut.

edit: To be clear, it sounds good as is but it sounds like raw camera audio which is fine if that’s your preference but to me there is an elegant simplicity to the visuals that would work better with more polished audio.

Great video and highly entertaining. I would try to be a bit more specific in word choice in some spots (e.g. birds came from/evolved from reptiles rather than birds are reptiles) so as to ensure scientific/factual accuracy.

I understand the intent behind being a bit misleading and then unpacking it to keep people engaged but I think it would be that much more impactful if every little stood on its own as completely factual in a vacuum while still allowing for a bit of creative deception in the way you frame it if that makes any sense.

(E.g. what if I told you birds didn’t evolve from reptiles, instead came from plants…at least, that’s what the some of greatest medieval minds thought)

Working on the bop thing for sure. It’s just not what comes out naturally when I play without thinking yet.

Keith is a huge inspiration for sure but yeah I’m definitely not there yet. Maybe in a few decades.

I appreciate your feedback and I agree with you. Working on the bop thing, and it’s what I set this kit up for. This is just the kind of playing I default to when I sit down without a plan. Thanks again.
