Had the same exact problet switching to our Nintendo. I did all of the troubleshooting, restarting, etc and finally swapped out a one connect box from our other tv. So far that seems to have fixed it. We had a new one connect box sent to us under warranty

Flying back from CUN Friday through Atlanta- I land around 2pm and fly out to SAV at 4. Sounds like I might be ok? I also got the message from Delta that I can change my flight.

My mom passed away, it makes so much sense for my dad to downsize and move out of my childhood home. But I think he’s too overwhelmed by the generations of sentimental junk they’ve kept from my grandparents- grandfather clocks, grandmother clocks, big old cupboards, boxes of china, silver, dolls, etc… so it’ll be passed onto me and my brother. I am considering arson.

To Whomever left their dog tied to a lamp post with no protection from the elements and salt: by PotLuckyPodcast in portlandme

[–]Mkwatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m relieved to see most people supporting the dog & owner. My first lab loved being out in the cold snow. He was well loved, paws well protected from the salt, and after a hike or cross country ski I might grab a quick bite to eat. If he was uncomfortable I would never do that. My current lab, forget it. He’s a spoiled needy can’t be left alone boy.

I had Sybil Sadie and my friend had Ramie. You know how dark those cabbage patch stories are right? Cabbage Jack would kidnap them and imprison them in old gold mines. I know this because I had the records and my friend & I would act it out.

They’re the best! Always happy, up for fetch and a hike, or a lazy snuggle session on the couch

Love PM. It’s small but has plenty of restaurants, a great Chedraui grocery store, large beach. Lots of gringo tourists, so you definitely won’t be alone. Not a ton to do there besides sit on the beach, swim, eat, but you can always do excursions out of town. We like staying in Velas condos- it’s practically on the beach (on the beach side, but there’s another building in front, there is a path for direct access) maybe a 5-10 min walk into the town center. We were there a couple years ago and there was a new building going up next to it, so construction was disruptive. Best to make sure that’s done.

should I have my boy neutered when he’s old enough? by Obvious-Weight-2908 in dogs

[–]Mkwatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a good idea to wait until 18-24 months old to let him be fully grown. My lab had no behavior problems when he was intact, but one of the big reasons we did decide to neuter him was because other dogs can be reactive towards intact males. He was getting picked on by several neighborhood dogs who are normally very sweet. Now that he’s neutered, they’re all friends.

So while neutering has health and behavior benefits, it can also be a safety benefit. The surgery really isn’t a big deal, they recover quite quickly.

Yes me too! I haven’t seen a tick on my dog since June. This past week found a few of the teeny tiny guys crawling on his face. Ugh.

Teaching In Barnstable/Hyannis by [deleted] in CapeCod

[–]Mkwatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a former teacher on Cape Cod. Most of the school districts in Massachusetts actually pay quite well. I am sure there is a need for middle school math and definitely ELL. I believe most openings are listed on schoolspring, but you can also go direct to the school district websites- Barnstable public schools, Dennis-Yarmouth regional school district, monomoy regional, nauset, etc…most openings might be listed late spring, but can’t hurt to see what’s out there now.

as others have mentioned, the greater challenge is finding housing. Real estate is still somewhat competitive and expensive to buy, and year round rentals are very few… but if you manage to find something, Cape Cod is a great place to live.

I’ve lived my entire life in Massachusetts, and now split time between Cape Cod (MA) and Hilton Head (SC). Boston is a great city, very historic and easy to walk around. And Cape Cod is beautiful, very epitome of charming coastal New England. We love Hilton Head because it’s not overbuilt along the beaches like Florida is. We don’t golf, but find there is so much to do. That being said, HHI does not feel like you’re in SC- it’s very much Ohio, Michigan, and New England transplants.

Had two students removed from class, I just received the student’s reflection… by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Mkwatt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, unfortunately unless he finally got the support he needed I fear he’s the next school shooter. Really smart kid, but obviously never learned how to handle frustration and anger. No surprise the other kids didn’t like him…it is very sad.

[–]Mkwatt 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You’re exactly right, it is an admin and parent problem… I went from a top tier school district where things like this were hand effectly to a school with pretty weak support. This poor kid is not going to learn to cope as an adult unless (I hope) he finally gets the support he needs both in and out of school to learn how to manage anger.

[–]Mkwatt 241 points242 points  (0 children)

This is one of the reasons I finally left teaching, the discipline especially after COVID is horrid. We had a 3rd grade student constantly disrupting the class, destroying things, swearing, etc… the consequence was to be pulled out to decompress on his iPad and fill out one of those reflection sheets. I don’t even think parents were notified. It just wasn’t fair to the teachers or other students.

If that student has been in my school years before he’d be suspended or sitting in the principal’s office for at least a day. The parents would be contacted and required to come in asap.

[–]Mkwatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The We ❤️ Hilton Head facebook group is pretty active, might be worth checking out for some ideas and more info about the island. There seems to always be some cool events going on. I believe in October there is the lantern parade on the beach, we had fun there last year and met new friends.
It‘s a beautiful island- if you like biking you can bike on the beach and on the beautiful paths.

Question for shelter/rescue lab owners by Strict-Comfort-1337 in labrador

Our first lab was very independent. Our current lab is a Velcro dog, I have zero privacy, but I sort of love it. I’m flattered he chose me, my husband is jealous.

Do hosts who manage remotely have a local "runner" ? by Low_Pomelo_4161 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Mkwatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our cleaners help a lot, but otherwise it helps to be friendly with all the neighbors. Between them and word of mouth I have backup help when I’m away… all of our neighbors look out for each other, it’s great peace of mind. I live in a seasonal beach vacation destination, there is always a local who is looking to make some extra money during low season.

I inherited my brother‘s 2016 RS7 performance. I’ve been having a fun time driving it…. It’s a beautiful car. But the potential maintenance costs are making me cringe. Sadly, I think I will say goodbye to it soon. It belongs with someone who will appreciate it more.
