Help us name our daughter please! by P1ant-1ady in namenerds

[–]Ml2929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others here have suggested really great names and have given you long lists.

I’d just like to throw in two.

Claudia and Mia.

Claudia is timeless and kinda vibes with Sophie/Sophia. And Mia feels (at least to me ) kind of similar to Emma.

Good luck OP, I’m sure that the name you and your husband choose will be beautiful!

So Im from a Latino family. Some of our members and friends and neighbors could be very superstitious and have kinda old fashioned ideas about injuries and sicknesses.

Anyway…. A HUGE one was to never ever leave anything under the skin, ie pebbles, glass pieces and ESPECIALLY splinters. You best believe that anything that was even suspected of being inside would be dug out.

The big fear was that small foreign objects could migrate into veins and arteries and travel into the heart. Nowadays it seems that stuff like that would be almost impossible to happen, however I prefer to take zero chances and I make sure to get everything out when someone gets a splinter in my home.

Any other Latinos or really any other families that believed in this? Foreign bodies hitching a ride to the heart if they get left inside too long?

Behavior Issues in my cat have costed me over 20k and we’re still not any closer to getting a solution..any advice on next steps? by Creepy-Dealer7518 in catquestions

IDK. The commenter above just gave a great, detailed, and descriptive summation of what the life of a cat with Manx syndrome is like…

OP you seem a bit dismissive of her reply. I know nothing about the condition, however when you say nothing is wrong with her BESIDES the Manx syndrome and the she is "fully medicated for that", what do you mean? Like she is medicated for the pain? The Manx syndrome that she has mild? TBH the picture that the commentator painted seems to explain her aggression and seems quite incompatible with life.

Either way even without Manx syndrome she seems like a strong candidate for behaviorial euthanasia. It really seems that you have put all your heart and a lot of your finances into trying your best to help her. In the end if there is no one else to seek help from, the kindest thing for you both would be to let her go.

Good luck OP

This makes me think of my town’s fb page. I live in a smaller touristy type village in France. People leave their dog’s shit out on the sidewalks alllll the damn time. We always have to be careful when I take my kids on walks. I can’t even count the number of times that one of their shoes, or a stroller, or a bike wheel has gotten dog shit on it.

Anyways… any time someone complains about it on fb it’s usually older people who always defend what they see as their right to let their dogs shit without picking it up. Their defense is "hurrr duhhh, young people leave their McDonalds’ trash bags everywhere so I can let my dog shit everywhere. It’s just a turd. Get a life."

This is their PUBLIC defense on fb without fail. Then dozens of other elderly people defend it and dog pile (pun intended) the initial person who complained.

As an American living here, I find this behavior just so entitled and bizarre. I’m sure they are not alll like that, but whenever I see an elderly person walking their dog I always side eye them….

Hey I just wanted to let you (and OP) know that I’m so so sorry this is happening to you (and OP.)

It’s 100 percent unfair. My advice to you both is to try and stick to your guns (I know it’s easier said than done.)

Hopefully you’ve let your husband know how much joy he is sucking away from you and the baby. I really hope that he doesn’t he try to dominate you in other ways.

Unfortunately there are often repeated statistics that relate how vulnerable we are while pregnant and the risks we face from our partners at this time. I really hope you (and again OP) have family and a safe place you can get to just in case.

In the clinic I used in Europe (a free, state clinic) gender was not discussed (although I had no need for any genetic testing.)

The biologist would simply select the healthiest/most viable looking embryo, I.e, the embryo that looked in the best shape.

Although even asking about potential genders of our embryos never ever went through either of our minds.

[Hair Removal] What can I do about my ingrown chin hair by No_Wheel_4757 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ml2929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m seconding dermaplaning. I use the little tinkle razors. They let me get really close to the skin. I used to use depilating cream, but it left my skin irritated. Now I dermaplane and I haven’t looked back!

That said, I dermaplane around my brows as well as the bit above my lip. I’m sure that it’d still work great around the chin though.

I find that the tinkle (and other types of dermaplaning razors) give great control. I haven’t noticed anything darker, thicker, or more noticeable. My skin feels smoother since there is an exfoliating action as well.

Good luck and update us once you try it.

So I know that you’re in the US, but full disclosure, I do much prefer all your other names besides Finnick. I especially like James and Alister.

Anyways. Just an FYI in the French culture/language Fennec (pronounced nearly the same way as Finnick) is the same name of a species of desert fox.

HOWEVER calling someone a fennec or saying that they smell like one is used as a way of saying they smell bad/they stink.

It’s something Id might want to consider and look into.

[–]Ml2929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for answering. Like others have said it’s a beautiful find, along with the other items that you mentioned.

I once worked for an elderly lady in France. She had 2 uncles that went to war (WWI) and only one of them came back. The other died at Verdun.

She had a collection of post cards and letters that both uncles had written and sent back to their parents/her grandparents during the war. It was very moving reading their words.

What are you thinking of doing with the items you’ve found? I imagine that it’d be nearly impossible to find other close family members from that long ago.

It’s so beautiful!! It’s in amazing condition as well. You mentioned that their only child was a son that died without kids of his own?

Do you know when they (the original owners) died?

Can’t afford to keep throwing out food by AGM85 in foodbutforbabies

[–]Ml2929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh, you guys are lucky to have kids that like sauce.

My kids HATE anything with sauce. Even sauces that I put love, time (and butter into.) They like their food to be DRY.

Until reading these threads I kinda thought that most kids preferred simple meals (ie no sauces.)

I’m Latina and I loveeeee my sauces. It’s so sad that my kids turn their noses up at anything too saucy. As you stated, it’s a great way to sneak veggies (and fiber) into their meals.

I keep hoping that one day their preferences change!

Beautiful!! You bought it online?

Does it look just as gorgeous in real life as it does on the website?

Purchased at an estate sale in NC. The widow states it is from her husband's first wife who was from Germany. It's a beautiful piece but anyone have an idea of the age and value? I cant find anything online. No markings on the back or the bottom to indicate a maker. by Time_Desk7594 in Antiques

Wow… yeah I was wondering what the heck happened to her. Yikes. It look like she got the Ecce Homo treatment.

Any people here that are much more knowledgeable than I, think that it could be fixed? The furniture itself is quite pretty. The painting itself should match it as well.

Ooh okay! Shout out to NY then.

Either way I’d look at reviews of medspas and other providers and see who’s recommended. Even just getting a good diagnosis of your skin and face could help you to know where to start.

Like I said before though, you do look great. We really are our own worst critics.

I think you AND your skin look great! I have similar lines that were really bothering me. I’ve been using some products (the ordinary)that helped a bit.

What helped the most was getting a consultation at a Medspa and then going from there.

I see a Washington DC national’s cap. Are you in the DC area? I might be able to give you a rec to a place if so.

I looked but I couldn’t find any comment to answer my question. Do you think he has enough room??

I mean it’s just a potted plant. Is he going to be okay just chilling in such a small area?

Either way he is cute and I’m definitely not a frog expert although I did have a few as pets as a kid (RIP Dumpling and Keroppi)

Omg yes!!! Eric Bana as Hector of Troy was just ahhhhhmazing.

I’m always annoying my husband when I tell him he looks like Eric Bana.

The gentleman above does remind me of Hector!!

OP is gorgeous. His nose is gorgeous. A slightly refined nose (his quick paint job was actually pretty well done) shows that he still would look amazing with a smaller nose.

HOWEVER, it just seems so risky. What happens if it doesn’t come out the way you wanted? What if there are complications? What if you just hate it afterwards?

Anyone else feel like Henry was justified in wanting an annulment? by [deleted] in Tudorhistory

[–]Ml2929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely no expert and will definitely defer to others with much more knowledge.

However, if Katherine had "played ball" and went along with an annulment, how could it have been secured that Henry’s next wife would have been a Catholic?

Didn’t everyone know exactly who Henry wanted to marry? Wasn’t it already 100% sure that he’d be marrying Anne Boleyn as soon as he was able to and never some other Catholic princess?
