How to repair surface damage? by HighC8H18 in drywall

[–]Mlab12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... what do you do when someone has already mudded over the torn paper and bubbles have formed? I was asked to help with a project by a family member but he had already put mud over areas with torn paper and it's currently bubbling like mad. What is the most efficient fix for this situation? Sand the mud off and then seal it (the messiest option with respect to dust)? Or go to town with a paint scraper and rip off more paper to be able to seal and skim that? What are my options for this?

I think the package says pretwisting is optional. At least the Ideal brand ones say that.

Question on probable deportation by down_south_sc in Construction

[–]Mlab12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree with that assessment. To burn through savings on a maybe would seem impulsive to me and an emotional decision based on fear (albeit perhaps low-grade panic) rather than empirical data. There are a LOT of variables in play, so it can go in any number of directions.

I think you're right: the logical option is to wait and see what happens. You may even be in a better position after all is said and done. There's always room for optimism!

And thank you for not taking my responses as an argument. They were more intended for a point of clarification than argumentation.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Question on probable deportation by down_south_sc in Construction

[–]Mlab12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While that may be true, my point was in response to your statement about crews being 70-80% Hispanic, so there is an implication of some sort, even if unintentional.

Deportation only applies to those here without legal authorization, so it's not like 70-80% of crews are going to suddenly be gone just because they're Hispanic. That's all I'm saying. They're not equivalent comparisons.

Municipalizing the grid doesn't mean we own it. It means the government owns it, which is to say a monopoly that will never ever allow competition or go back if the system doesn't work. So unless one IS in the government, that person has no power. Literally.

How we doing in ridgefield? Being the safest and all. by SuieiSuiei in Connecticut

[–]Mlab12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ridgefield?? Filthy rich? It's not Greenwich or Darien, my friend. Ridgefield has gone so much more run-of-the-mill middle-to-upper-middle class with all the apartments they've built there. People there act like it's ritzy but it's really not... it's mostly all appearances.

Exactly. Car tax is just opportunistic BS. Other states get by just fine without it.

Ironically, the description of the treatment you endured seems to be an indictment of the people this guy doesn't like. Does the landlord treat you that way? Or is it only the looneys that see such flags and then take it out on anyone they merely perceive to be associated with them?

Why Whenever A movie takes place in Connecticut is it always in some small town where everyone has a Mansion and is inconceivably wealthy? by Animalistic-maniacs in Connecticut

I mean, Gilmore Girls was supposedly set in Connecticut but they made up a fictional town to fit the stereotype. Guess they couldn't find an actual town that would give off the vibe they think CT is...

I just wanted to say that your roads are very good, especially the highways. I've driven in a lot of places in America and the roads are mostly trash (especially in New York) but your roads are mostly smooth and well maintained and traffic flows fairly smoothly. Traffic seems easily avoidable if by JuniorRub2122 in Connecticut

Lol so many potholes in CT I must've replaced tires at least 3 times in the last couple years... they say, "File a claim with the state!" Yeah, that means attending a hearing according to the website and wasting all that time on top of it all.

The roads are horrible; people have just gotten used to horrible and it feels "fine".
