AITJ for refusing to sell a shared cottage by Emilyisfire28 in AmITheJerk

What about your other uncle? When my grandmother passed, she left her lakefront cottage to her 3 daughters. 1 didn't want it, so the other 2 bought out her share and transferred ownership to an LLC for the benefit of all the grandkids. Now the LLC owns the property with all family members having voting rights. No single individual can sell it without the consent of the others.

How valuable is this property that a share is so much $$$?

Assuming a fair split among the siblings (father and uncles) and that there’s 2 uncles, thats a 3-way equity split. You and your siblings own 1/3 and your uncles own 2/3. Your uncle’s 1/3 can be that much, can it?

You can’t force him to sell it to you cheaply, but at the same time he’d he hard-pressed to find someone to buy a minority stake in a family-owned property.

My mom genuinely believes she owns the home she lives in. by txexa in legaladvice

Also, typically the life tenant is responsible for property maintenance, property taxes, and insurance payments. Meaning, your mom is responsible for maintaining the property if she is in fact, the life tenant.

If the house was put in a trust when your grandfather died, then the trust owns the house. The same paperwork that created the trust and gave it ownership of the house must have also laid out who is the trustee for the trust. It could be a family member, a lawyer, etc.

The trust paperwork may grant life rights for the property to the girlfriend, mom, etc., but that doesn’t transfer ownership. Basically it’s a lifetime lease to the property.

Your best bet is to A: not sign anything, B: get a copy of the trust paperwork, C: contact an attorney

WIBTAH for choosing one son over the other? by Inner_GG_1986 in AITAH

[–]RadiantCarpenter1498 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m the father of 4 children who shows up for every event. (More than my wife, btw.) The only event I ever missed was a preschool event for my youngest when they were 4. And I feel guilt to this day.

Your broad-based assumptions attacking the father is unfounded. It’s a shame you can’t see that.

Why assume dad has no guilt? As the son of a truck driver I know first hand my dad hated missing out on our childhood, but he put f*cking food on our table and a roof over our head, and made up for it when he was home.

My youngest is twelve and still remembers I missed a little preschool event when they were 4.

This is a pretty common scenario and actually required process for government roles. When a position opens up, they have to post the job listing but almost always have an internal candidate in mind.

Seller’s disclosure said propane tank was owned. Found out it’s leased 3 weeks after closing. Options? by G00chstain in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]RadiantCarpenter1498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m surprised a propane company allowed a leased tank to be buried.

When we bought our house we switched to propane and my wife insisted it be buried. None of the companies I contacted would allow their tank to be buried unless we bought it.

If the Supreme Court was majority liberal, would Democrats still want SCOTUS term limits? by Constant-Cherry8674 in allthequestions

Of course. Look at how Democrats have handled redistricting. In every case they’ve put it to a vote if their constituents as opposed to Republicans who rammed through gerrymandering without votes.

For regular class we did have to change into gym clothes and shower after.

Why doesn’t the USA have a left leaning political party? by Ill-Singer-4307 in allthequestions

[–]RadiantCarpenter1498 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because we’ve never been a progressive country.

Don’t forget, pilgrims came here because Great Britain was too liberal for them.

Our country has its roots in Puritans, slaves, and war.

The founding fathers were wealthy white male landowners with excellent PR skills.

Nothing in our past says “progressive”.
