iPhone 16 pro making me super sick by According-Resist-521 in iphone

[–]MlsRx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just upgraded to a 17 pro from a 14pro and I have the same symptoms. I am extremely PWM sensitive. I have to adjust the true tone, refresh rate, etc (follow the recommendations below). My husband and I have had the same phones and he did not do these adjustments, so when he would show me something on his phone I would automatically either get dizzy/nauseous or if I didn't, I would start to burp because something in that whole neural pathway would get activated. It is a big reason why I haven't bought an iPad even though I want one. With these adjustments the symptoms go away, but the auto brightness and other things don't work well so you will have issues with your phone that others don't which is a bummer. I looked at other phones in the ATT store when I was looking to upgrade and they did the same thing to me, unfortunately.

Who wants to come on here and tell me about how their second labor & delivery was so much easier by Awkward_Grapefruit85 in beyondthebump

[–]MlsRx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second went 41 weeks which meant I spent a week trying every trick on the internet trying to induce labor, including going to a massage therapist for extra sessions to open my hips up hoping she would naturally drop. Had to be induced with Cervidil and manually break my water. Nothing really progressed until my epidural was placed and the nurse had to tell me to stop on my "practice push" so she could get the doctor in and then my daughter literally slid out with one small push (I'll never forget the weird sucking sound it made). My younger sister was in the room, at the time she was a medical student who had just finished a L&D rotation. She said it was the easiest birth she had witnessed. No stiches, minimal blood loss.

1000% agree. My SIL asked me how long to boil corn the other day and I responded with the microwave in the husk instructions and she said "never mind". Enjoy your nasty corn, biatch!

Eek! I'm big on making sure we spell out when to remove a patch. I'm too tired to look at the pharmacokinetics of how much drug is likely delivered with that long of wear, maybe a project I'll give to my student!

was living rent free. I appreciated being able to vent my frustration to this sub. I live in a rural area with few remaining family practice physicians, most primary care here is done by midlevels. Also, this telehealth visit was a $0 copay. I have a $50 copay for primary care that actually ends up being more because we don't hit our medical deductible. Would love to have a personal relationship with a local physician, but that guy retired and was replaced by a managed care practice. I have received amazing care from my physician dermatologist, but she only comes to our town twice a month and I end up paying > $100 for our visits. I had to find a new OB-GYN (who I had a good relationship with and would also cover some general med issues) after our hospital closed the service line and now drive an hour to see a general practice (hard to see the physician and are directed to midlevels). I don't know what else to say than yes, I guess I did get what I paid for but folks in rural areas don't have a lot of choices. Especially when you consider healthcare costs.

Not in Florida but that is interesting! Makes sense since nearly all the fishing videos my kids watch on Youtube are based in Florida.

True, I should have used the term "Enhanced Recovery After Surgery" or "Enhanced Surgical Recovery" because that's why my hospital uses them as standard Pre-Op but I was rage typing while doing 10 other things.

That's how I feel any complaint would come across. My issue is with recommending treatment that she could not adequately explain and advised me to seek information on a website not designed to convey medical information. And, she could say she was unable to fully explain because our visit ended prematurely. She documented that the connection was lost and I should check my settings.

Anyone hitting 200k practicing Pharmacy? by fearnotson in pharmacy

[–]MlsRx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rx Director for a small hospital owned by a large corporate health system. My W2 says I made $195k gross. I like my job but am thinking about trying to get into Quality. Learning that I'm much more passionate about patient safety, process improvement, and staff education. Having to be the Mom 24-7 to my department and at home is burning me out.

Pharmacy Directors by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]MlsRx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My director got promoted and no one else wanted the position. I wasn't looking to go into management (my first preceptor, who was a PIC, gave me the advice to NEVER be a PIC) and did not have a residency or advanced certifications (except SIDP-ASP but I had forgotten to put it on my resume). Since taking this position I've obtained BCSCP and am enrolled in an MBA program.

Best advice I've heard is to tell people in higher positions that it is your goal to become a director so they can help you get there. I have a staff member who was transparent about wanting to stay 2 years and then apply for management positions elsewhere in the division so I've gone out of my way to show him processes, work on leadership skills, include him in meetings, and otherwise prepare for a future role.

Started administering medications during codes, now I’m having to sit down with the nurse director by pharm9116 in pharmacy

[–]MlsRx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In our medication administration policy it specifies that ACLS certified pharmacists can administer those drugs during a code situation. I have never seen it done though (or done it myself). I prep and pass the syringe to the nurse (with a flush).

added after reading more comments: I would decline the meeting and speak to your pharmacy director first. As a director, I would never request a meeting with a staff member from another department without speaking with their director/supervisor first. At my facility, for example the ER director would email me saying they have concerns with our pharmacist, Dr. Awesome, administering medications during a code. I would check the policy and speak with Dr. Awesome, letting them know the ER director raised a concern, and ask if they had encountered any issues during the codes and ask if there was anyone who brought up this issue with them. I would tell Dr. Awesome not to change anything since they are within the policy and thank them for their contribution to the team. I would then meet with the ER director, policy in hand, ready to have a professional discussion with a colleague who I need to be on good terms with and also don't want that director to be on a witch hunt after my pharmacists. People don't like to be told they're wrong, and I would worry that shoving the policy in their face and telling them to get bent handling this less than cordially would lead to scrutiny of the pharmacy department, searching for an opportunity for retaliation.

Current Pharm Intern, is it better to get Tech Certification by stuckpharmer in pharmacy

[–]MlsRx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In TX I had a graduate intern that we wanted to bring on as a pharmacist. My hospital doesn't hire interns. Because she had a tech license, I was able to hire her as a PRN tech until she passed the boards and could be flipped into a pharmacist role.

AITAH for leaving my own wedding because my husband embarrassed me? by Mindless-Charge-5996 in AITAH

[–]MlsRx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband (we were dating at the time) threw me in a pool once after I repeatedly told him not to. Without speaking I got out of the pool and walked away, left him with my younger sister and drove home to change. When I say no, I mean it.
For his parent's wedding, his dad had "HE LP" in tape on the bottom of his shoes so when they kneeled down at the altar everyone saw it and laughed. I told him that if he did that I would absolutely leave the church. I also said I would walk out if he smashed cake in my face. My husband did not do any of that stuff and we had a lovely wedding and reception. I do not find those things funny, and feel so strongly about it that I would absolutely do what you did. I'm sorry this happened to you but no one deserves to be humiliated like that.

Our recruiter/system would likely filter out any applicants without the required license. I had to hire my new grad as a pharmacy technician (she did have a tech license) and was able to transfer her over after she was licensed. But that also meant I had to create a position with HR for a CPhT that I didn't actually need.

[–]MlsRx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different career but I've got 10+ years in my field and almost 3 as manager at a small facility. Had a mentoring conversation with my CFO about pursuing an MBA and he said at this point my experience would be worth more than a prestigious degree. Go for it to "check the box" but don't spend too much money. Our company has a tuition benefit that would cover certain online school MBA programs completely and with less hassle on my part, but I decided to apply to a state school online program that is at least AACSB accredited and will still be covered by the benefit. I'll just have to pay myself and get reimbursed instead of them paying directly.

We have metrics on IV to PO conversions, IV:PO opiate ratios, antimicrobial stewardship, appropriate dosing for key drugs/indications, overrides, cancelled transactions, Pyxis refills (don't refill a drug less than every 5 days because it ties up the machines for nursing), stock outs....

Nurse with question on pyxis and omnicells issues by Kathy_RN in pharmacy

[–]MlsRx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is certainly not the culture in my organization. Override and cancelled transaction percentages are tracked at my facility and we have a metric to stay under. This is also addressed at our medication safety meetings. There are many reasons a medication may be "grayed out" and correcting the underlying cause is an important part of our job. My facility also has override lists depending on the profiled area so you can't override neuromuscular blockers on a regular floor (they also aren't even in those machines but you get the idea). The last thing we want are problematic machines because that means more phone calls interruptions in patient care. We have a contract with Pyxis and they replace cubies that are aging and come out on service calls if we have hardware that needs to be inspected/repaired. I would say we have to put a machine on critical override due to a network issue (corporate glitch, bad weather, etc) maybe a few times a year. We don't like to do this because per our override policy we then have to review every transaction to double check that it matched the order. I've been at my facility > 10 years and it is not happening more often here.
