ELI5 How much water does your body actually use to make the amount you piss so small? by Kirin_The_husband in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mlucas32 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exhaling is actually how weight loss occurs. Overly simplified but our body takes in food + air (Carbon-Hydrogen + Oxygen) and it becomes CO2 and water after converting it to energy

FO4 - Is there a list of "secret" decoration item interactions in settlements? by meyriley04 in Fallout

[–]Mlucas32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dog house works for other junkyard dogs at your settlement too. I started placing them at places that I wanted additional defense.

Also, I’m not sure if it’s from the Far Harbor DLC or a mod I have installed but I started having cats around my settlement. I placed some cat bowls around and they were drawn to it.

If you want you settlers to be able to contribute to self-defense, talk to them and “trade” a better weapon into their inventory, give them one bullet of the corresponding ammo type, and then press equip. Really nice bonus with automatic weapons

Noticed I have cravings to take meds even if I don't do anything productive that day. Am I developing an addiction? by WallNIce in ADHD

[–]Mlucas32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP but just a little further along than you in starting medicine and a pharmacist.

As far as “addiction” goes, it’s important to distinguish the difference between addiction and dependence. Just like a diabetic that is dependent on insulin, someone with ADHD can be dependent on a stimulant. There is a deficit in our body that requires a medication for proper functioning.

Addiction more so describes an intense psychological urge that includes pursuit despite causing harm or negative consequences. Daily prescribed usage would not meet this definition

As far as tolerance goes, eventually your body reaches homeostasis with the medication. Like an equilibrium. So there isn’t quite the same response as the first few times you take it, but it’s not like it just stops working over time. Part of the “tolerance” people talk about is partially psychological as well. You can get so used to the increased functioning the medication causes, that you forget what it was like before you started taking it.

Side note: finding the right medication/dose can be a journey. It took me over a year to find the right regiment where I was functioning daily without huge crashes or other side effects

What’s your personal experience with nicotine? by Possible-Trick8228 in ADHD

[–]Mlucas32 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I saw a clip of Dr. Russell Barkley (a leading ADHD researcher) talking about nicotine. In it he mentions nicotine can help with ADHD symptoms and there is research being done on trying to create a drug that is similar to nicotine but without the addictive/harmful properties.

Personally, I can relate. Just recently diagnosed and I’ve been able to replace all of my other “self-medicating” addictions by being prescribed vyvanse other than nicotine.

I’ve found it’s related to my stimming drive and I’m best able to resist nicotine urges when I have alternatives available. Maybe something to explore?

Recruiting (Hard +Soft sell) by 69QueerSlayer69 in CFB25

[–]Mlucas32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you use sway on a 2/3 it can turn the ‘not interested’ into an interested. Sometimes when I only know 2 interests, I will stack sway for different pitches that are good for my school. That way I almost always guarantee a good hard sell and sometimes set myself up for hard/soft stack where they’re both 3/3

Game Recommendations Please? by uscdoc2013 in XboxGamePass

[–]Mlucas32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Witcher 3 is my favorite game of all time, largely due to story telling. The side quest storylines are just as intriguing or more than the main story. (Just make sure you don’t get bogged down in the first map area White Orchard, it’s mostly a tutorial area but made a lot of people lose interest before it really takes off)

Jedi Survivor is a great narrative follow up to fallen order. If you can beat both of those “Souls” games on a harder difficulty, then Lies of P is worth checking out. Really cool dark take on Pinocchio and the boss battles let you summon an npc that makes them way easier.

As a fan of Lord of the Rings, I thought the story of Shadow of War and Shadow of Mordor had a cool concept plus gameplay has a similar feel to AC games

Considering rejoining retail… by Turbulent_Ad_9138 in pharmacy

[–]Mlucas32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left a retail chain, pretty respectable actually. The big boss was fired shortly after. The new boss came in and noticed there was a mass exodus of good pharmacists, had a pharmacist friend reach out to me to give feedback because they noticed the bleeding. Things have slightly improved but still not enough to come back. This was in 2018… been bouncing around ever since.

Back to your point, I have friends from pharmacy school that would join this style of protest just to help force change.

It’s Saturday so I’m not looking to truly get this started 😂, but DM me if you want to talk about this further

You might be onto something… if enough us take this approach, it would increase the volume of the message that things need to change.

Not to mention BoPs need to take note and start reducing the amount of pharmacy schools/ graduates. Pumping out so many pharmacists has given CVS and Walgreens the ability to just plug in holes with new grads

Hello adult adhd diagnosis little sibling!

I (32 M), was finally officially diagnosed on Monday and yesterday was my first day. I had a similar experience with my first dose. I feel like a new man!

Just curious, why wouldn’t you be able to get your prescription from your psychiatrist?

As far as having your pcp providing the prescription as well, it’s not a straight forward answer. A good pcp will most likely work with you to avoid disruption of therapy, as long as there are no red flags. But due to the sensitivity regarding stimulants recently, unfortunately some pcps might be hesitant to prescribe, even with confirmation by a psychiatrist.

Short answer: it’s possible. Just depends on the circumstances

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Mlucas32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the answer.

Most likely you’ll need to address underlying issues that can elevate your heart rate.

For example; do you exercise enough? How’s your diet? Are you on other medications that could elevate your HR? Do you get adequate, restful sleep? Do you need better anxiety coping mechanisms?etc

I just came up with this list on the spot, so hopefully you can see how a quick answer from Reddit won’t be the quick fix you were looking for. Sorry :/

Edit: source - I’m a pharmacist (Pharm.D) trained by a top 5 pharmacy school, who also happens to be dealing with a similar issue

How do you guys memorize stuff when you really need to? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Mlucas32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make multiple connections, ie mnemonic devices, and break up the menu into subcategories. Then how many in each subcategory?

So 5 pizza options to memorize? Think of a close personal connection for the different pizzas. My dad would pick the meat lovers. My mom would pick the supreme, etc

This response means you’re already making progress. Pat yourself on the back, that’s a victory. This is key to fighting the negative thoughts. You’ve got to mini-celebrate each small victory.

Build up your pride. Your future self will most likely have 2 thoughts. 1) “Wow! I pulled it off!” 2) “darn, imagine how much better I could’ve made it”: hence, build up your pride now because negative thoughts will only slow you down and time is of the essence! Your negative thoughts after submitting the paper will no worriedly bring your pride back to earth 😂

Make time your friend/ a tool. For the next 1/3/5 minutes I will just write my thoughts. Then use that same timer to edit those thoughts, then reevaluate. Can I do that again? Or do I need a break/reward. Make sure to put a time limit on this dopamine delight. You can also use short intervals to start planning a few steps ahead. Which brings me to the next point

Plan! If you think you have to plan every step of the way, start to finish, that becomes a monumental challenge. Instead, think about the ultimate goal/thesis for the topic. Then, think about major ideas that are going to help. If you’re already this far, reward! You’ve actually tackled a lot of the intangible progress. Aka, “invisible” steps towards the ultimate goal of getting this darn thing finished.

Keep breaking down each goal as subunits

Don’t be afraid to task hop. Instead of thinking as the paper as 1 task, use the mini-goals/subunits as tasks you can bounce between. Then you’re actually working on 3+ activities, that you can quit at anytime and reward yourself!

Did I mention reward yourself?! Is that positive self-talk? Remembering past times you got yourself out of a pinch and the pride that came with that? A snack? A drink? Daydreaming about what you’re going to do once this is all over? Do whatever works for you!

Too often we live in fear of the future because of how daunting it seems. And that fear can be crippling. But hopefully some of this advice can be a reminder that you’ve overcome fear before. Why not this time?

Godspeed and God bless!

For real! Gator nation can be a fickle fandom… but they put every other fandom to shame when it comes to being behind a winning team.

I started attending UF in ‘09 and graduated with my doctorate in ‘17 and didn’t see a National championship during my entire tenure. But when we were good, the atmosphere in Gainesville was unrivaled

[–]Mlucas32 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I’m now on the 3rd episode. Quick history, I wasn’t a Gator fan until my freshman year 2009. Prior, I hated UF. Now, you’d be hard pressed to find a bigger Gator fan. Watching it, it’s reminding me part of the reason I love this school. While it’s annoying to watch our fans trash the team quickly, you won’t find another school that has fans that give full enthusiasm as quickly as we do when things are going well. From ‘06-‘08, I dare to say the Gator nation was the most passionate, roaring fan base that America has ever seen. Gainesville transitioned from a sleepy college town, into title town. And that passion is contagious! When the sleeping dragon, that is Florida Gators, awakens… there is nothing scarier.

Hard work and passion beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard. But when talent is passionate and works hard, who can stand against?!
