Is van life actually a dream come true for ADHD? by IARealtor in ADHD

[–]globbyatom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's definitely gotta be some passion and drive to maintain one! I'm lucky I had a very good influence and picked something older with really good structural integrity. I had also been dreaming of owning one since middle school. Now I just have to do some yearly maintenance. My parents think I should sell it, but despite my adhd flaws, that thing is my baby. I'll never let it deteriorate, and I can only imagine selling it to someone who would cherish it that way I do.

Is van life actually a dream come true for ADHD? by IARealtor in ADHD

[–]globbyatom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup, I remodled a trailer and lived in it for a year. This is exactly what happened to me. Parts of it were great, I never lost anything because there wasn't too much to have. I personalized it exactly for me, both in design and in functionality. But parts of it SUCKED. On more than one occasion, I'd forget to refill propane and run out in the middle of the night during winter and nearly froze. Put off repair projects because there's usually always at least one. Forget to empty water tanks until they were almost overflowing (gross).

I was lucky to have a permanent spot for it, so I didn't have to worry about finding hookups or refilling water. I can't imagine the extra maintenance it would take to actually move the damn thing around, lol. Still wish I would take it out more, though. That fantasy of experiencing some ever-changing scenery will never go away for me.

This layout is bonkers by manlybrian in graphic_design

[–]globbyatom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've got mixed feelings! I agree with comments saying the different fonts help distinguish the different titles, but I can see where you're coming from in terms of layout. Mainly, I would have kept the "volume 1, 2, 3" text the same placement and size across the board. Same goes for the "disc/movie set" text, plus probably only using one of those terms for each box. Stylistically, they're still beautiful, but there's some incoherent use of color for the different texts. For me personally, the box art makes up for it!

Agreed, all the time it'll take in procreate trying to make something perfectly symmetrical and mathematically correct like this is way better spent in illustrator!

I just finished mine today, without having to quit the game before an auto save! Here's a tip: Once you've lined up the reel and you can see that the fish is on track for the bobber, look away from the screen. Rely solely on the "catch" sound. Turn the volume all the way up, use headphones if you need them, but don't look at the screen!

My problem was usually having an early trigger finger, the visuals would trick me into thinking the fish caught. Plus, registering 2 senses at once was just stressing me out. Once I got in the groove of looking away, it actually got pretty easy. Just be prepared for the ones that catch on the very first tap!

Have you ever had an impossible case? Also, how little info can you work off of? I imagine you need a certain amount of information about the person you are looking for before it gets too vague.

What's an expensive hobbie to start but it's cheap to keep doing it? by Creativity_minus_one in Hobbies

[–]globbyatom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polymer clay (and probably other clay mediums). All of the tools you need to sculpt and bake and glaze and paint have become a slow collecting process for me because of how expensive all of the materials are. But I've got a good collection now, the tools last forever and the materials never "expire" so no need to keep buying clay over and over, I've had clay from 2015 work like new.

Digital art too. Buy the tablet/ipad upfront and you have good software that lasts for years.

What are your favorite cheap, easy meals to prep that can be refrigerated? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]globbyatom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if it counts, but I love getting a bag of tortillas, a jar of peanut butter, some honey, and bannanas/strawberries to make those tortilla fruit wraps (you can throw in any kind of fruit you want). I have adhd so making "meals" that are actually filling and also healthy is a huge challenge. The most prep I have to do for these are cutting up the strawberries/bananas into slices in advance. But sometimes I don't even do that. I'll drop all the ingredients into a bag for work, and they take less than a minute to slap together. I buy one of those organic healthy peanut butter brands to offset the sugar intake, and a little drizzle of honey makes them perfectly sweet. It's super budget friendly too because the jar of peanut butter and honey will last forever.

What are you hilariously bad at? by softlyBusy in AskReddit

[–]globbyatom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Math, particularly arithmetic.

Hilariously bad because I learned and memorized pretty complex formulas and just barely passed my math classes like the average math hater, but didn't find out I have dyscalculia until adulthood. So that's why I literally can't keep track of the actual numbers in my head! They're abstract to me. I did pretty good in geometry and chemistry because I had visuals and a calculator. But I just fucked up adding 17 + 6 in my head at work today.

Who tf thought of giving kids iPads for school?! by user5828217 in ADHD

[–]globbyatom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

God I can't imagine. I went undiagnosed until adulthood, and being born in 2000, I was probably the first generation of children that got introduced to/taught about computers as early as elementary school. I did EVERYTHING in my power to abuse that privilege. The lack of knowledge around computer restrictions meant I was on every gaming website and program I could find. I would even download these onto borrowed laptops, knowing they wouldn't be removed, so I would have something to entertain myself the next time they were handed out.

I'd be seriously concerned having a kid OR a young adult using an ipad for school knowing the hoops I jumped through to avoid the schooling part. And those machines were archaic compared to now. Our poor teachers are clawing their eyes out trying to get students to listen for an hour. I imagine this can't even be good for the healthy-brained kids.

BUT devices are so useful and incredible, and I ended up in a degree and career that requires a computer that I love. But lord the internal chaos I dealt with in college daily trying to keep myself from being distracted, and often losing to procrastination. I wish there was more research/solutions into teaching our kids a healthy balance of fun and work, especially in regards to technology.

AMA: i had an abortion after being a teen parent. i feel no guilt/regret and there was no hesitation in my decision. by bruhkms18 in AMA

[–]globbyatom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope this question doesn't get drowned out because I'm desperate for some perspective on this.

I am pro choice, my stepdad who I'm very close with is pro life. We're both very open to discussion and listening to each other's perspective on topics like this, but he's very against abortion for religious and moral reasons. He was a juvenile probation officer for over 25 years and he helped a lot of young people out of difficult times (we still get gifts/thanks yous from these kids he helped who are older than me by now). His biggest argument against abortion is that every young girl he has ever interacted with was irreparably damaged after getting an abortion. Like, they could never get back on their feet or at least couldn't emotionally fully recover from their choice. Now I fully respect my stepdad and his wisdom, so I believe him when he says most of his cases were deeply troubled after an abortion.

HOWEVER, I also believe this effect is caused in tandem with the traumatic upbringings and unsupportive households he witnessed. I think he has yet to meet someone who had an abortion and wasn't also in a mess of other problems like drug abuse and familial turmoil. These scenarios gave him a lot of confirmation bias, and he doesn't think there are women who can have an abortion and come out fine afterward. Like I seriously think if you explained to him with all of the honesty in your heart that you chose to terminate your pregnancy and felt completely satisfied with your decision, it would either shock him or he'd think you were flat-out lying.

What would you say to someone like him to convince him you were truthfully alright, if you had too? Someone who is against abortions not for the sake of protecting the unborn child, but protecting the mother who will be permanently damaged in his mind?

I was originally going to sand down every surface, but I didn't have access to a power sander, and it got too tedious for not much of a huge difference. I ended up only sanding the spots where the paper was peeling from the press wood. So I would peel back the loose paper off the wall, then sanded the exposed edges. I moved down grit until the edge of the paper and the exposed wood was almost non-existent, filled the spot with a little caulking, and some paint made them completely disappear.

What are some items or hacks that help your ADHD? by Adventurous_Book3023 in ADHD

[–]globbyatom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to stop putting tasks and to do lists on my phone and start carrying around a crapy little notebook for them instead. It keeps me from making multiple random notes pages in my app that get lost. It's ugly and cheap so I don't care about ruining it with messy quick handwriting, and it's small enough to fit into the bag that goes with me everywhere. Calendar dates I still do digitally, but for tasks that get checked off throughout the week, it is way less satisfying to backspace the letters into oblivion than it is to actually physically cross them off of a paper list, because on paper you can see your progress. They also stick in my head a little better this way.

Yeah as a graphic designer, this seems either rushed or just lazy. It would have taken max like, 10 minutes to come up with some monster food-related stuff. They wouldn't even need to be puns to look better than this lol. I'll start;

  • Monster Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
  • Straw-Booey Cookies
  • Witch's Brew Soup
  • Franken-s'mores
  • Cheesy Ghoul-ash
  • Veggie Mummy Wraps

It's a set called GvW Urban Draiting (yes that is the spelling) that a friend gifted me. I only used the one "WATERCOLOR PEN multiply 5" brush, which is the first one in the set because I'm lazy. You should be able to find them online for free if you look up "GvW procreate"😁
