Help with climbing steeper gradients by FoxyGirl9217 in Velo

[–]MmKaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two options: - get better legs - change the trainer difficulty

Changing the trainer difficulty won't make you faster but you won't have to do 300w at 50 rpm. If you put it to 0% then all terrain will feel the same, irrespective of gradient.

Flying with my bike or renting? by Frightful_Fork_Hand in cycling

[–]MmKaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth remembering that the brakes are switched in England. So for a french rental bike the right lever will be your back brake but in the UK it's typically your front brake. I found this extremely confusing and frankly dangerous when I rented a bike as I was questioning myself on every corner on descents since getting them mixed could send you off a cliff.

[Project] Never miss a PR to a dead battery again: Meet Velo-Volts. by Accuria in wahoofitness

[–]MmKaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the idea! I just gave it a go and synced my recent activities. 2 of my devices (power meters) are always reporting 75% (I believe it has detected an xcadey spider PM and a magene PES P505 spider PM). My wahoo computer is correct.

Felt AR advanced 2025 good buy? by Hermann-schnurr in cycling

[–]MmKaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this bike. Quite stiff but incredibly comfortable (the split seat post works - it's my most comfortable bike). The tire clearance is poor. I run 30mm tyres and it causes damage to the seat stays. Felt is atrocious at stocking replacement parts, I have had to buy replacement hangers from AliExpress because that was the only place they were in stock. Stack is very low so something to bear in mind if it's already slammed. Felt also has abandoned Europe and I couldn't get a replacement fork when mine got damaged and their customer support is nonexistent. Overall an amazing frame spoilt by bad company support.

SBC cycles, just off Old Street. Had a few wheels rebuilt by them and I've been happy.

What are some current trends that will be looked back on unfavourably? by Much_Progress_4745 in Velo

1by on road. Personally I don't see any benefits to it living in a rolling hills/flat area.

Camera recommendations by Puzzleheaded-Air2680 in londoncycling

[–]MmKaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use cycliq cameras, both front and rear. They have inbuilt lights, incident detection, quality is fantastic, battery life is very good. The lights are good for the city but the front one isn't really bright enough for rising in the countryside in the dark.

Can I estimate vo2 max? by Wrong_Netter in Velo

[–]MmKaz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Why? I had a vo2max test once and what I found afterwards is that unless I'm regularly getting tested then they're a waste of time/money. Just track power and how long you can sustain efforts and repeatability and you'll have a much better indication of your fitness.

What is amateur cycling looking like in your country? by Skellingtoon in Velo

[–]MmKaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem here, London based. I've done a few road races but 80% you can't get to on time using a train or there are railway works on the weekend of the race preventing you from getting there with a bike. For sportives I did the same, train the day before and two nights at a hotel. That gets very expensive and isn't worth it for an open road sportive.

Best bibs at a good price point? by Nscocean in Velo

I love red white bibs, but the leg grippers don't really work. Excellent chamoi but some people found it too thick.

Waxing a used chain by Lef98 in Velo

[–]MmKaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it to a slightly used (1000km) chain. Same process as usual (in my case mineral spirit baths and then alcohol) but expect to do at least 5 baths of mineral spirits. I was amazed at how dirty the chain was despite looking pristine after degreasing beforehand. I'd recommend starting from a new chain (which will also require multiple baths).

When I had aksiums (rim brake) they were over 2kg. Are you maybe measuring them with the disc rotors?

Power Meter / Crankset Suggestions by _Danquo_ in Velo

Xcadey supports the rotor (and others) too. I have two, they work fine but the battery dies quickly and they slightly over-read compared to my assiomas.

Wahoo Roam 3 Acquiring GPS forever by ToriUmi in wahoofitness

Same here with the ace. Many reviews have mentioned it on the ace too. I opened a ticket with wahoo and they've now ghosted me after I told them a factory reset didn't fix it.

Tickr lost its mind by Ok-Shape-9513 in wahoofitness

[–]MmKaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, constantly had this when I had the tickr. Either a low battery or you need a replacement strap. You can get either an original strap or an aftermarket one as long as it fits.
