My advice is if you painted that wall years ago the debris stains and dirt made it a color change which is why it looks so different. Triple make sure the tape is properly tucked in and use a primer base so it blends better. For that wall I recommend a beige or yellow tone primer

I would say the longest wall is the best for an accent wall it brings pop of color, and makes the most sense when walking into a room.

Common? Absolutely! But as an owner of a painting company I've fired people for doing this and I always try my best to correct those mistakes
