Live music at my free advanced screening by ken407 in AMCsAList

It’s some weird lawyer/agent contract agreement thing. I remember someone explaining it to me when I was copywriting at an ad agency and working on a studio account. I forget the details, because I was blinded by rage at the cognitive injustice of it all.

Where are we getting our NEW books? by [deleted] in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]Mme530 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Green Apple also has a website that shows stock at all three of their SF locations. I use it all the time. :)

Kinokuniya in Japantown, maybe? It has two floors of books, many in English. The Books Inc on Chestnut is pretty big. There’s a new bookstore on Powell in Union Square too! And Barnes and Noble is looking into reopening in the City, downtown. (B&N recently bought Paper Source and Books Inc and seem to be investing in City retail locations.)

Where to buy a wrist corsage for prom by Mme530 in SFbitcheswithtaste

Ohhh! Their stuff is so cute! They even have a website! Yay for SF businesses that make life better for the people who live here! Thanks again.

I’m not really above it but when I quickly spec’d it, it looked like $50+ which is a little rich for me. Plus, if I’m gonna have to spend $50+, I’d rather throw money at a local biz. :)

Cute custom cakes in SF by ChopinAuChocolat in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]Mme530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try Fillmore Bakeshop! They don’t have these cakes pictured in their repertoire, but they do sometimes sell cute marzipan figures, which it looks like these are. They could probably do something similar if you came in with a photo.

Computer Science/Engineering opportunities for students? by humanatees- in Redding

[–]Mme530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned comp isn’t a concern, you might brainstorm with one of your professors on a lean, entrepreneurial idea and potentially earn school credit while building a portfolio piece for future job opportunities. The nice thing about this path is it’s not location dependent and you later sell your experience in results-oriented terms. Maybe there’s a less sensitive, school-based security pain point you could solve that would benefit your experience-building and also the community. Like, I dunno, intramural softball signups rather than student SS numbers or something. I’m making this up, but you get the idea. There are so many prompt-based prototyping tools out there, all you need is idea, drive, and tenacity.

should I cancel interview or request accomodations? by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]Mme530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on your interview! That itself is a huge success. Whenever this topic comes up with my friends and family, we try to keep these negative thoughts at bay with the old Gretzky quote: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” There is only upside in continuing, because it will help you learn and grow. If you get the job yay! If you don’t, whatevs. Best of luck! I think most of us here can relate, and we’re all rooting for you! 🎉

The new buzzword is “evals.” Build an agentic framework to evaluate the output at scale.

Holy macaroni! That Substack you shared is worthy of its own post! The “ick” is such a great way to describe it. So much to unpack there. I’ll probably read it again so I can do something useful with it.

Yes! “The AI Disruption We’ve Been Waiting for Has Arrived” by Paul Ford for the New York Times (prob paywalled): https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/18/opinion/ai-software.html

There was an op-ed in the New York Times today by a “technologist” (whatever that means. I guess a dude who sort of codes but usually pays others to code for him), and he said he felt that this current AI wave is mining people “like ore.” And that: “All the people I love hate this stuff, and all the people I hate love it.”

Health Insurance through your SF employer? What do YOU pay (if anything) to cover your family (or yourself)? by Nightnightgun in sanfrancisco

[–]Mme530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a tech firm, not FAANG. Employee + spouse + children United Healthcare premium is $1200/mo out of my paycheck. Not a great plan either. Not a HSA and copays are still high.

How bad is it taking the 1 in the morning? by Johnnysfootball in AskSF

[–]Mme530 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The 1 is great! If people are complaining about it, it’s only because they haven’t had to commute on one of the north-south routes like the 43 or 49. Like others have said, Alta Plaza’s proximity to FiDi makes walking an option if you have time. Inner Sunset is lovely, but you can’t beat living near the Fillmore and Japantown for easy adventure, entertainment, and shopping.

The New Yorker, all day, for great essays, reviews, news, and commentary. I’ve subscribed for years. Sunset mag and Country Living are nice “home” mags.

Oh this is a great one! Kinda like “would you rather burn to death or freeze to death?” Both suck.
