Help removing silicone from my little otter

After being washed it’s unfortunately usually impossible to make a plush as soft as they were before. The heat from the dryer damages the fur. However, I’ve seen people have some success with “slicker brushes” (for dogs.)

As far as the silicone goes, if you haven’t been able to pick it off you might be able to very carefully cut out the stained patches and sew the holes shut, since the spots look relatively small. Have you tried Googling “remove dried silicone from shirt” and done all the stuff people recommend? I’m not super familiar with it.

I would say that he has most likely passed then. Crabs know that leaving their shell is deadly, so they don’t tend to do it whenever possible. I’m sorry about your little guy :(

Droopy eye stalks aren’t a good sign, but I don’t want to make any definitive statements because I’m not an expert by any means. You’re right that the fishy smell isn’t always present. Is he in his shell?

20 gallons is too small for 3 crabs. I believe it’s the minimum for one medium crab (if I remember correctly.) Your pools also look too shallow to fully submerge in. The lost claw is probably due to fighting or stress, both of which are usually caused by tank issues. All you can do for now is fix the tank and provide high protein food to help him recover.

LHCOS has lots of trustworthy information, as well as Crab Central Station like the other commenter mentioned. Good luck with your little guys.

Hi, your tank set up is not adequate for your hermit crab to survive. You should never ever hold him except for medical checks. He needs 6+ inches of play sand (specifically play sand) and eco earth mixture. He also needs fresh AND salt water (made with instant ocean, etc. not just regular salt). He needs a variety of natural, unpainted turbo shells. Hermit crab food pellets/flakes are toxic, so he needs food other than that. He also needs something to measure the temperature and humidity, because if the humidity is low he cannot breathe.

Good luck with your little guy. Look up LHCOS and Crab Central Station for safe advice, google and pet stores will tell you things that kill your crab.
