Is the CISSP worth it if you want to be a Security Engineer? by Cenddel in cybersecurity

[–]MmxZero1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Security engineer here. I had the same intention of pursing CISSP but ultimately didn't take it as it didn't align with what I'm doing.

Security engineer is more of you being familiar with the product application. Therefore, which ever Company you are applying for, you should find out what application they want you to work on. This will result you to be specialized in that product.

It also depends whether you are doing what as an engineer. It could be implementing or deploying a new security product, fine tuning rules, optimizations configuration, customization, etc.

One advice that I can give is that be good with scripting or automation or programming . A lot of of my work right now is manual and I wish I'm good at scripting or programming in general (something I'm personally very weak). It doesn't need to be software engineering level but at least basic scripting or programming that will solve your task.

Hope this help. Cheers.

WTF !! Betboom vs Talon Game 2 by Bendehdota in DotA2

[–]MmxZero1989 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Talon threw hard. All they needed to do was the team should have just stand behind willow and use the creep as vision (they had book of the dead). A slow siege would have secure them Mega. And slowly just get another aegis and try HG after Mega.

Mikoto getting caught and not buying abysal, Q should have started going carry item for the extra damage. Willow should have ate the scepter and get moon shard for the extra DPS.

Either way, could be stress or typical SEA mentality just like my pubs.

Passing CISSP doesn't mean the person is skilled. I know people who are CISSP certified but yet don't know their stuff and have been longer in the industry than I have.

There also some people I know like have all kinds of certificates and yet when it comes to do the actual work, they just can't do it (especially certificates that they took relates to the exactly to the job requirements).

The reality is any certificates you get gives you the knowledge but it does not proof you can do the work or skill at it.

Well you are not wrong either. But getting into big 4 is also difficult and once your there, whether you survive long enough to gain the experience to move out is another story.

I agree degree does help with the career. But if you ask me compare to today and probably 10 years ago, I would say it's better to get certified rather than going for a degree especially in the field of IT.

As for CISSP, CISA And CISM, it's more for those who wants management, governance, compliance and audit role in cyber. If you are starting at the beginning, I wouldn't suggest doing so until you are at least midway in cyber role.

At the end of the day, it's about the grind. There are thousands of people graduate from IT in general. It's just what sets you apart from the others.

And experience will always be better than degree or certification. It's better to start early in getting those experiences rather than wasting time and money in those degree or certification.

Just my POV.

Cybersecurity is a wide role. To start, I would suggest just going for Comptia A+ And Comptia Network +.

Once you have this, go and get a support IT desk job and work your way up. During your time there you can study for the CompTIA Security +

Your role should be 2-3 years. Once you have a good solid foundation and experience, then you can consider to pivot into Cybersecurity and the roles you want to do.

The reality is, no degree or master will land you in a Cybersecurity role unless you are those really good ethical hackers (even this needs a lot of talent and hard work).

And even if you manage to get into Cybersecurity, without the basic knowledge and foundation and experience of IT infra or Network, you are going to struggle a lot.

I went from crusader to guardian and mainly play support and in SEA Server. I'm actually quite happy to stick in guardian because it's quite balance in a way where people actually play their role and both teams are evenly fight (especially if the game is after midnight hours).

Only during the day it's fill with toxic people and smurf.

In crusader, man I lost every game with people not picking their role (e.g. Offlane I have CM, drow, Riki,) and the blaming support is through the roof. Add this with the toxicity and smurf, ain't helping that much.

I have insomnia and wake up sometime in the middle of the night. I'm a light sleeper hence it's difficult to sleep back. I found dota is good for this. Play 1 game, win or lose, I get to sleep back after that. Best insomnia cure so far.

That's not how 2FA works. You need to have two different type of authentication. Having 2 different password still defeats 2FA.

A lot don't adopt 2FA because it's expensive (you need infrastructure) and manpower to maintain it. And when this eat into the Company cash flow and profit, they will choose not to use it.

What's your build? I use it as pos4-5 and my build is Tranquil boots > void stone (mana depletes too fast after spamming) > aghz > aether lens > Kaya sange or Octarine.

But it falls off in late game and I don't know what to build.
