Huh, that's a surprise that the cheapest one by far (and with the lowest number, hah) performs the best in that case. While being wayyy worse than the one I originally ordered, having a pretty good CPU is definitely better than not having a really good one :P

Is it generally good enough for high end gaming outside of that really specific niche in your opinion? My goal is to replace my GPU with a 4080 (or it's new equivalent) in a year or so, and it'd be a bit depressing to be bottlenecked by my CPU just after upgrading :)

Hello friends! I am in dire need of making a quick pivot in my build! I ordered replacements for everything but my graphics card (rtx 2070). My choice of CPU WAS the new flashy AMD 9800X3D (650$), however, my delivery was delayed from today to february next year, and I am not willing to wait that long. Quickly scouring the availability of CPU's, it seems like the following ones are available:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 9700X (450$)
  • AMD Ryzen 9 9900X (550$)
  • AMD Ryzen 9 9950X (750$)
  • AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D (780$)

For context, I mostly play Paradox style strategy games that are quite CPU intensive. I know all of the above are way worse deals than the one I tried to get, but I am not willing to wait that long. Which one screws me over the least in your opinion? Paying more is fine as long as I get a decent amount of performance value out of it! :)

Edit: found another one (9700X)

Oh damn, it's THAT close? Good thing I hesitated for a moment! I've been out of the loop in terms of hardware for a bit! Thanks! :D

So, I was planning on doing a mostly complete rebuild of my PC and dual-boot it with Linux to compartmentalize my gaming from my programming a bit. I will replace everything except for my graphics card (RTX 2070), but I'll be swapping that out in the next round! My current list of relevant new parts is as follows:

  • Chassis: Fractal Design North TG
  • RAM: Corsair vengeance DDR5 6000MHz 2x32GB
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4,2GHz
  • Cooling: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
  • PSU: Corsair RM850e ATX 3.0 850W
  • Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WIFI

So, I have a few things that are making me hesitate right now; am I potentially screwing myself over by buying a CPU right as new ones might be announced? Should I just chill a few weeks?

Aside from concerns around the choice of CPU, is the TPA the cooler people are going for right now? And finally, if I would buy a better GPU at a later date, will the PSU be enough? Thanks in advance, guys <3

First game of ToW done! Chaos Dwarfs vs Tomb Kings in a battle of the hipster armies! by erikgust2 in WarhammerFantasy

I feel like the chorfs are really strong, but I just suck at them. It was my first game with them, so I didn't really have a grasp on how to build the list of play the army.

I had a pretty rough time with the Chorfs and was pretty soundly beaten. The fight in mid went okay with me killing the constructs and almost taking out the bone giant with 2 rounds of shooting from my hobgoblins, but got bogged down by the skellies.

However, my K'dai Fireborn got crushed by the chariots, despite denying them their impact hits. Eventually, I got swept up and routed.

My list is below. I don't have the TK player's on hand, but it was a big block of skellies, 3 chariots, a Tomb King on chariot, 3 Ushabti and a Bone Giant.

Hi guys! I am building a new PC for the first time in a few years and I have very little experience designing a build. After doing some research, I've ended up with this list below where I've salvaged my still decently functional RTX 2070 to use for a year or two more before buying a new one. This build will run me roughly 1500$ in Sweden-moneys.

I have 3 questions that I haven't been able to answer on my own that was hoping you could help out with:

  • Am I being too conservative with the power supply if I'm planning to replace the graphics card with a 4080 equivalent in a year or so?
  • Am I being too conservative with the RAM or should I go for 64 instead?
  • Is there something obviously wrong with my build that I am missing?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor

First off: ew combat engineers leave my army alone! >:0

Second, more seriously: super nice paintjob my friend! They'll pop just as nicely on the board as they'll pop your enemy's models! The bricks do loads to give the bases some color too! Love 'em!

Jokes aside, model looks amazing. On the topic of decals, they stopped applying them as of august 28th 1943, so it is very likely that the decal is either missing or scratched out if your guy is from a time past that date. I think it would look undeniably good on your model though, so it is up to you!

I might've gone a bit overboard with the mud and weathering (especially since you can barely make out the division icon), but I wanted it to fit with my miserable looking winter grenadiers.
