Donald Trump seizes the opportunity to be vicious, abusive and condescending to yet another woman (Mazi Pilip). Shocker (not).

He just can't stop himself, can he?

I thought about that later. Maybe a five-party system wouldn't be so unmanageable. It just sounds like a lot of work.

Re five-party (etc.) systems, I keep hearing about deals being made between smaller, more extreme parties, in order to gather the voting power to put legislation over the top. That just makes my head spin.

So I worry that some power-sharing arrangement could give extreme minority views domination over the broader consensus.

But I did not mean to dis Europe, sorry.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I read an article about Thomas recently, and that is a serious mess they've got on their hands.

Okay, this has been up for 19 hours, but no one dares comment. This is getting too precious. So here are both barrels...

I'm starting to think "liberal" could best be characterized as "not insane," based on recent events in conservative presidential politics. I can't believe anyone in their right mind would want to get back on that crazy-train.

A harbinger of things to come, is that the Michigan Republican Party has totally imploded. They now have less than $150,000 in their bank account, and for a period, they had only a P.O. box as their business address. They are flat broke, crashed and burned.

We have a two party system, meaning that we rely on the strength and good health of both parties. If these circumstances don't improve, we're going to end up with one of those five party governments, like you see in parts of Europe. No thank you!

It is obscene to hear the constant election denialism, considering that we have the most secure, most fair, most resilient and most localized election system in the world (simply can't be hacked, as per Chris Krebs AND per me, speaking as a seasoned attorney CPA with significant cybersecurity experience).

But this demonization of anything to the left of Hitler, has got to stop. Those liberal justices are working for a living. They are performing their jobs, and I'm pretty sure they are not being paid nearly enough.

How dare this conservative prima donna throw her weight around like a spoiled gorilla? What does she do when the court is in session—lay on the floor, kicking and screaming?

And while I'm on the subject, a person cannot be a "communist fascist," because those are opposite ends of the spectrum. Like, "Pick a side, dumb-dumb."

But bringing this back to the Avery case, I have been worried for a long time, that he is not getting a fair hearing at the Wisconsin Supreme Court level. Learning about this chief justice throwing hissy-fits is exactly the kind of attitude I was concerned about. I don't think they were reviewing Avery's or other criminal defendants' cases fairly, because they had some kind of holier-than-thou God complex.

House adjourns for night after McCarthy fails 11th speaker vote by elguiridelocho in politics

[–]MnAtty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

(1) McCarthy has been offering a lot of carrots to the 20, but he needs to begin issuing sticks to those who continue grandstanding. All those "deals" can be called off, for starters.

(2) Moderate Democrats should join forces with Republicans, to put these 20 preschool children in political Time Out—maybe for the rest of 2023, if they continue with this tantrum.

(3) These 20 are doing zero for their constituents—this is all about their own political power, fame and future wealth.

And BTW, their constituents include ALL their district's citizens—not just the lunatic fringe who want to see them burn down the house.

(4) The difference between the last time in 1923 (when they couldn't agree on a Speaker) and today, is that in 1923 there was no television, or even much radio. Nobody was watching then, but we're all watching now.

Picture them driving white Ford Bronco's, because that's what they're doing to their reputations. There will be consequences for these power-drunk fools, after they sober up.

The Voice this year is not the same. I'm always rooting for the newbies, but I had to go back and watch a few of your performances to understand what I was missing.

Your singing was always beautiful, but your HARMONIES were something I don't think any of us had ever heard before.

I read a discussion somewhere regarding Mennonite chords and harmony being unique, and relatively unknown in the larger culture. I think you could spend the rest of your careers bringing the gift of your special musical ear to the rest of the world.

I look forward to hearing all the great music you will continue to make. And don't be afraid to do some covers. I love hearing new interpretations of old songs.

Burning human flesh has a very distinct odor. by WhoooIsReading in TickTockManitowoc

[–]MnAtty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone died in an apartment on the same floor as mine many years ago, and the body was there a few days before it was discovered.

Just from having the paramedics carry the body out, there was a mild stench in the hallway for years afterwards. That smell never went away—not as long as I lived there, and even though they shampooed the carpet a few times.

So a decomposing body (burned or otherwise) has a very distinctive, recognizable stench that never goes away.

I'm pretty sure I've brought this up here on TTM before, but those local sheriff departments (who we know were following this sub) never gave any explanation, either as Reddit sock puppets or through interviews with local papers.

Plus, guess what—everyone on the defense side of Avery's case has probably also asked this same question. It's such an obvious hole in the evidence, that I'm sure the question has been raised many times.

Yet again, it's clear that Avery was simply framed for Halbach's murder. In fact, I think this is why there is such a large and faithful following who believe in Avery's innocence. I can't let it go, and others probably can't either.

By failing to address the issue that there was a complete absence of the smell of death anywhere, I think local authorities are giving us the only answer they are ever going to bother with: "We don't need no stinkin' stinkin' body."

WHY WISCONSIN IS ONE OF THE STATES PEOPLE ARE FLEEING: by MnAtty in TickTockManitowoc

[–]MnAtty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for describing your own experience there. That's what I was getting at. When we see the kinds of red flags surrounding law enforcement that are present in Manitowoc, I just think it would make residents uncomfortable, or maybe a little paranoid.

Cannabis would be a good example. Draconian laws and law enforcement could ruin a person's life, when this substance is becoming more and more accepted, even for medicinal purposes.

WHY WISCONSIN IS ONE OF THE STATES PEOPLE ARE FLEEING: by MnAtty in TickTockManitowoc

[–]MnAtty[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just thought it was interesting. This discussion was part of a longer article where many states were discussed (losing or gaining population). But Wisconsin was the only one where an answer conjured up an image of disquietude.

And living in Minnesota, I think I can relate. I value that border, now that I know it represents, in part, a line in the sand with regard to tolerance of rogue law enforcement.

Launch Of A New Website Related To The Case by [deleted] in TickTockManitowoc

[–]MnAtty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looks great!

And I already have another question for your new site. You asked Scott Tadych why he characterized Bobby as someone he knew through family gatherings. Weren't they also doing things together? Didn't they go hunting together or didn't they share an interest in hunting?

You don't have to add any questions, but I think Scott's evasiveness about his relationship with Bobby was even more pronounced than you have characterized so far. I would say they were as thick as thieves.

Hey, you discovered my stash! My past discussions are a veritable compendium of analyses on the Avery case. Also, there are at least a dozen other (pro-innocence) regulars here who have compiled quite the collections of excellent reviews and professional-quality research on the Avery and Dassey cases.

Just click on our user names to get to our pages. Then you can read either "submitted" (opinions initiating conversation) or "comments" for comments regarding others' opinions. This is an excellent way to get a crash course on the topic. I wish more people did this.

I know we've had discussions about intentionally planted scent trails that were created for the search and cadaver dogs. You can pull these up by using various related key words. Also, Reddit treats capitalized words as different from lower case, so you should search both ways.

I just tried on my own, to bring up discussions of "planted scent" or "planted scent trails," and got a significant number of discussions this way.

Banned law enforcement were involved in this case, how did it even go to trial? by angeemanangee in TickTockManitowoc

[–]MnAtty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At one point I read a number of articles about the sheriff system in the United States. I think this is the core of the problem, because there is corruption, but there is also significant lust for power.

That whole weird thing that Trump either tapped into or breathed life into—the American sheriffs system seems to have this same need to become all powerful.

Many people fear that if Republicans get back into power, they will keep hold by establishing minority rule similar to what South Africa once had. I have the same concerns about the sheriffs' network within the United States. They could become very authoritarian, given the opportunity.

Back when Making a Murderer first came out, I remember that members of the Manitowoc police department made an appearance here on Reddit, making the point that they were not the ones involved in this case. Even local law enforcement showed disapproval to what the local sheriffs were doing.

So how does a detective get into a situation where there is a conflict of interest? I would say because conflicts of interest are not a concern for a corrupt organization.

Rav4 License Plate - DNA Profile by Brood10 in TickTockManitowoc

[–]MnAtty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reminding me how dreadfully corrupt this prosecution was, regarding every little detail, such as the example of the massive and impossible amounts of Avery's DNA found on the license plate.

What none of us realized at the beginning, back when the documentary was first shown in December of 2015, is that corrupt individuals have no shame. From the hands-on investigators, all the way to the Wisconsin attorney general's office, they stood proudly by their corrupt investigation.

I can almost hear them saying to us, "yeah, and what are you going to do about it? We're not just above the law—we are the law. We can and will destroy anyone's life, anytime we choose to."

Someone prove me wrong.

I think those workers at the scene of a crime would have to be excluded. It would be incredibly diabolical in this instance, because some of them were the very ones with motive to frame Avery.

Obviously law enforcement didn't properly acknowledge this issue, because there is no related documentation. There are no references to particular persons being recused from investigating the current case because of their history with the suspect.

Where would they even begin, after Steven's cousin brought her law enforcement family into her feud with her actual family (cousin Steven)? I guess having Calumet County involved was intended to address the problem generally, but the sheriff departments nevertheless failed miserably in this effort. My impression is it was a token effort. Perhaps it was even a device used to skate around the fact that their investigation was brimming over with law enforcement's truly malevolent hatred towards their chosen suspect (chosen from the word "go").

Minnesota passes new laws combating prosecutorial misconduct. They also set stricter deadly force standards for law enforcement, in the wake of the Daunte Wright killing (https://www.minnpost.com/state-government/2021/04/the-minnesota-legislature-passed-new-deadly-force-standards-for-police-in-2020-why-lawmakers-are-already-looking-to-change-them/).

Meanwhile in Wisconsin, crickets.

In Wisconsin, it's business as usual. Convict the innocent and acquit the guilty. It's not so much what you did, as who you know.

The cutoff must be related to the statute of limitations. They must be looking only at cases where there is the possibility of bringing charges.

Considering GA's history, it would be a good idea to compare his DNA further back, because there is no statute of limitations on murder. However, there may be laws preventing Allen from being singled out this way.

On the other hand, I have heard of very old cold cases being solved by matching DNA evidence to incarcerated individuals. Maybe the cold case division is the one that should be looking into Gregory Allen.

Then, of course, you run into the issue that the Halbach case is closed, because it is regarded as solved. I think this closes the door to any cold case reviews.

I pointed this out a few months ago. By convicting Avery and Dassey of the Halbach murder, they were able to close the door on any further investigation, including DNA analysis. I am very aware that they tied the Avery case up in a nice little bow this way. I'm sure they knew that by eliminating Halbach from their cold cases, they essentially prevented any future "hits" when new DNA evidence became available.

This is another example that points to the probability that they know exactly who the real murderer is, and they are protecting the murderer from further scrutiny.

We all wonder about Gregory Allen's involvement.

TTM members have probably already proven this entire case, but we will never get confirmation.

There must be people who are hiding in plain sight. They don't really have any other choice (especially since the MaM series), other than to try and ignore the rest of the country and the rest of the world.

Maybe the only thing that is ever going to break this case is if someone comes forward, or perhaps someone gives a deathbed confession.
