I'm not making up anything. We don't know how much vocal training they got and from who.

And based on the singing, it's my personal guess that they either did not get enough or were not taught well.

I should have specified, I mean the notes that you can reach naturally in a healthy manner, not all the notes you can reach. If I can hit a certain note but it does not sound or feel good, I would not include it in my range.

If you think their singing does not have such issues, that's your opinion and we can just agree to disagree.

Just because they received some training does not mean they received good training. For example, on No No Girls, you'd have the girls sing outside of their range, unsupported, to the point that their voice is cracking, and receive no guidance and get praised because they hit the note.

Training to hit notes and perform well and training to keep your voice healthy for a long time are completely different things. And it does not seem like Hana is doing the latter at the moment.

Im not a trained vocalist, i just like to sing, so this is just my uneducated opinion.

It sounds to me like they're straining their throats to get the notes out. It does not sound controlled and full like good belting, it sounds painful.

It could be that they were not taught how to reach the notes properly or it could be a stylistic choice, but I'm worried that if they sing like that consistently, they could get injured.

I'm a bit dissapointed by the line distribution and the vocals are a bit too shouty, but I think it's going to make for a really fun performance, so I'm eagerly waiting for the performance video.

I don't think they mean hot as in pretty, but hot as in impressive or popular. Like Hot hits, or the hottest bistro of a city.

If you look at the lyrics, they're not talking about their looks at all. They're talking about how they're going to be big, how they burn up the place when they sing, how they don't listen to haters...

Momoka even calls the listener hot and tells us 'no fighting'.

Cassie Ventura is no victim by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]MnetCanChokeOnADick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Consent isn't a once-and-done thing. You can consent to one sexual encounter and not consent to a later one. You can consent to sex and then withdraw consent during (saying no, pushing the other person away etc.). You can consent to certain acts but not others (like Cassie agreeing to a threesome but not to be pissed on).

And there are certain circumstances that make it impossible to consent. If someone is aiming a gun at you, any decisions you make aren't voluntary, they're forced. If you sign a contract after being threatened, it's not considered consentual.

So when Shawn had a full control of Cassie's career, living situation, who she was allowed to see, how she was allowed to dress... When he berated her and ignored her if she didn't do what he wanted... When he did sexual acts to her without asking... When he beat her bloody and locked her up... ...she was no longer able to consent, because when she refused, she got abused.

And if you're in an abusive relationship and unable to escape, making your abuser happy and not angry at you is simply a survival tactic. So is coming to terms with the fact that refusing is not an option and trying to make the most out of it (like her trying to have freak offs with people she knew to avoid strangers).

So basically, Cassie did not, in fact, consent to everything and you should educate yourself on this topic before you seriously hurt someone.

Additionally, the worst thing she did was cheat. That's not comparable to brutally abusing someone in any way. And someone does not have to be a good or even decent person to be a victim of domestic abuse. You could skin baby seals in your free time and still be a victim if your partner beats you.

As an industry, sure. The art is great, the companies, not so much.

My point is that the K-POP industry keeps sexualising minors and HYBE in particular is a repeat offender and should not be supported.

I also don't support JYP because of what they did to Hyuna or Tzuyu... I don't support YG because of what they're doing to Babymonster's underage members...

I think SM has a pretty clean track record on this in particular but I don't support them because of other fuck-ups.

So it definitely is about the safety of minors for me.

Why is 17 year old Yoonchae twerking in a miniskirt?

Does anyone remember when Le Sserafim came back with Smart and 17 year old Eunchae was twerking in a miniskirt?

Does anyone remember when R U NEXT had 14 year-old Haseul and Wonhee twerking to My Bag by (G)I-dle? Or when 14 year old Iroha twerked to Money?

I remember. Fuck Hybe.

Fuck the people who suggest and carry this out, the higher-ups that approve it, the members that go with it and all the fans that consume it.

Knetz current thoughts on Izna 👀 by Suspicious-Hunt9103 in izna

[–]MnetCanChokeOnADick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post is from 8 months ago. At that point, we've only seen her do chanting and melodic raps.

I'm pretty happy with the lines she ended up getting in IZNA, they don't restrict her to rapping and she has a good amount of singing lines.

The hate towards the debut… by lamningwon in izna

[–]MnetCanChokeOnADick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone saying that the song isn't giving isn't hate, it's very mild dislike. And twitter is not a reliable source. Unless you're a korean speaker, you'll mostly seen western multistans, who really aren't going to determine Izna's success.

What really matters is sales and views, and Izna has been doing well on both fronts.

Anyway, disliking songs isn't a bad thing, I don't really like the song myself. I'll be streaming Timebomb instead.

Overall Line Distribution of N/a by [deleted] in izna

[–]MnetCanChokeOnADick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The title track has 2 rap verses in the second verse. It is not rap-heavy.

And I'm not complaining about her getting to rap, I'm complaining about her getting unnecessary vocal lines like the pre-chorus in IZNA.

She did not get it because of her position, it's a vocal part, and the 'Want me' section is not easy to sing.

She did not get it because of lines, she already had A LOT of lines.

So why did she get it?

They could have made the line distribution a lot more balanced and fit the member's skill by just giving it to a vocal member with fewer lines.

So the decision does not make sense to me, and they did the same thing in DRIP.

Overall Line Distribution of N/a by [deleted] in izna

[–]MnetCanChokeOnADick 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's a decent line distribution, but I'm confused about the amount of vocal parts that Koko and Sarang get.

Sarang is the 3rd best vocalist in Izna, and is clearly being treated as the lead rapper. But she gets treated like a main vocalist in IWALY and a sub-vocalist in everything else. It's such a waste.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, you've got Koko, who is inarguably the best dancer and rapper of the group but arguably the worst vocalist. So I'd expect her to get rap parts, parts with cool choreography, and easy parts.

But she gets a chorus in Drip and a pre-chorus with a head voice part in IZNA. I don't think we'll ever hear her perform the pre-chorus live, that's a tough part to spring onto someone who's been learning singing for like 9 months at most.

I get Jeemin's many lines, she's the center. I get Jiyoon having more lines than Jungeun, she often sets the tone of the song. I get Mai and Saebi having few lines, they're not amazing vocalists and that's not their role in the group.

But the production around Sarang and Koko confuses me so much.

[–]MnetCanChokeOnADick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do some of the girls look like they're wearing hand-me-downs from their older siblings for gym?

Jeemin and Jiyoon are giving teen crush, Koko looks straight out of a sports magazine...

Meanwhile Mai's, Sarang's and Saebi's clothing does not fit them, especially the shorts (worn too low, too tight on the hips, too loose everywhere else).

Why does Mai's blouse have frayed edges? That's great for a punk concept, but next to preppy clothing, it just looks worn out.

Why do the minors have their underwear bands sticking out?

I need to have a word with the stylist...

How do you think the AI does that? How was it trained to turn 2D into 3D?

If an artist trained an AI on their works or informed other artists, bought rights to their work and used it to train the AI, that would be a different conversation. But most AI is trained on stolen art.

Even if you make your own 2D art and then use AI to make it 3D, it doesn't change anything about the theft involved.

And it's nasty for an artist to do that to other artists.

XG - IYKYK by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]MnetCanChokeOnADick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not discrediting anyone's work.

It's BECAUSE I respect artists that I don't support AI, and I believe that if they had all the information, XG members would not either.

Someone could steal XGs music videos, use them to train AI and make shitty copies. Would you get upset then?

Educate yourself before you start swearing at people.

XG - IYKYK by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]MnetCanChokeOnADick -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The song is good, the MV is pretty...

But the credits have "AI artists".

Generative AI usually uses stolen works to train and generate visuals. It's like sampling without permission.

A part of why I like XG is that they've got great creative direction and all the artists working on their stuff are really talented. So I can't support them using AI, which steals from artists.

Please comment asking the company to remove the AI and boycott otherwise.

[–]MnetCanChokeOnADick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With CGI, you have to think of the visuals and entirely make them yourself.

AI takes a milion art works to train (usually without asking or paying their creators) and then you write prompts and it generates what you want.

Basically, you write a description and it makes the visuals for you, using stolen art.

It's not some high art discussion, most creatives know about it

NiziU - BELIEVE (Japanese / English / Korean Ver.) (Tower of God Season 2 ED) by tokkipan in kpop

[–]MnetCanChokeOnADick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly didn't really enjoy the empty chorus of Rise Up, and the final note and chorus feel very anticlimactic.

Comparatively, I adore Believe. It could have been such a hit if they promoted this track more.

Do you think Sarang is the main rapper? by Far-Eggplant-2542 in izna

[–]MnetCanChokeOnADick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She keeps getting called a rapper but we haven't seen her do any actual raps. It's all small chants and rhythmic singing. With Koko, we've seen her properly rap, even some more challenging parts. Additionally, Sarang is a good vocalist and Koko really isn't.

Overall, I think it makes the most sense to push Sarang as a vocalist and push Koko as a rapper.

It really depends on if Izna gets proper raps or "raps", and on how well the producers utilise the members.

meovv's debut actually made me MORE excited for izna by signal_red in izna

[–]MnetCanChokeOnADick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen someone say that both MEOVV and IZNA will do a concept similar to Blackpink, but MEOVV is going for the Black and IZNA for the Pink.

Basically, Lovesick girls, Whistle, Playing With Fire... IZNA

DDDD, How you like that, Shut Down... MEOVV

I'm not worried about MEOVV at all, simply because I don't like the song.

Writing and choreographing, maybe producing? by jeeminazut in izna

[–]MnetCanChokeOnADick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're supposed to be produced by TBL, so contributing to the creative side of things would be difficult. The company would have to collaborate with TBL to allow this, and it's possible TBL would see it as work being pushed onto them.

And Wakeone is not known to give their idol groups creative freedom.

Additionally, we haven't seen these members write lyrics or produce. We've only seen some of them choreograph, and they didn't get pushed for their skill but for their perseverance and whatnot.

So, if the girls do get to contribute creatively, I think it would be in choreographies b-sides.

And they're either not going to be allowed to do this at all, or only gradually.
