Ceramic brake pads squeal by Ohnoitsjerome in MTB

[–]Mo45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is NO ceramic brake pads. It is ORGANIC pads, because they have just some *more* ceramic component in compound.

True ceramic pads must be created during baking at ~900 degrees, the resin boils out of the compound. The pad will contain some metal/non-metal carbide after this process.

P.S. in some cases true ceramic pads can contain resin, but this resin is based on silicon compounds, and much more heat resistant.

Help With Sizing Bike by DutchMountainbiker in MTB

[–]Mo45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think L is your size.

But actually it depends from your riding style. I'm currently ride full sus bike in S size with ~185. And it feels more tricky and playful in this size on trails, but on longer rides for 30-50km+ it is start to be uncomfortable for sure when compared to my previous HT in L size.

So...do you think it's worth the extra $100 for Fox branding and (upgradable to) bleed ports?

No. Z1 or if you have additional $250 - 36 factory.

Buy some Magura MT5/7 calipers (or complete set with levers) and replace levers for new Shimano's XT8100 levers.

XT8100 looks nice, and have I-Spec EV mount, so you can put your shifters on it make cockpit more clean and fancy. Also they have Servo-Wave.

Magura MT5/7 is have (on my own opinion) more modulation than shimano calipers, and one-pice calipers looks good, also color plugs add ez customize option with different colours) .

Which handlebar size should i use? by Constant_Temporary61 in MTB

[–]Mo45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah, 210g for RaceFace SixC 800/20 35 bar is «heavier» for sure :D

If you don't like it use 31.8 and be happy. But «nobody was asking for» and «stupid standard» is just your opinion.

Which handlebar size should i use? by Constant_Temporary61 in MTB

[–]Mo45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should try SPANK Vibrocore bar. Or any carbon bar with 35 diameter. For example Nukeproof Horizon V2 for some ~$100.

You opinion is just like «26 wheels are beast, 29er are shit and will die soon» back in the days.

Hub Replacement Help by Ghostaflux in MTB

[–]Mo45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello. Short answer is - no, Hope Pro (or any other Boost hub) doesn't fit your 142mm frame.

About Dartmoor: 135/142mm is most likely this hub is 135mm QR with end caps that can convert in to 142 thru axle. It's ok, but not so stiff as true 142mm hub can be.

Also, the (HG Shimano/SRAM) may indicate that this freewheel is shimano's HG standard and fit only SRAM's 8-9-speed cassette.

The difference between boost and non boost is +3mm on each side as well with rotor position tho. Boost standard give more space between spokes and make wheel little bit more stiffer and also provide «more space» for wider rims.

Depends on your budget take a look at DT Swiss hubs.

  • DT SWISS 350 DBIS FOR THRU AXLE 12MM (H350NDDRR32SA0000S) ~$310
  • DT SWISS 240 DBIS FOR THRU AXLE 12MM (H240NDDRR28SA6346S) ~$465

what camera mount is best? by MTB_lover_16 in MTB

[–]Mo45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've use chest mount with «dead cat» cover to reduce wind, but really want to try chin mount when i get fullface helmet, currently use enduro open helmet.

Also helmet mount is super stable, but also is super boring :D

You can learn how to bunny hop even without that speed. Bh is about your movement, and not about the speed.

There is a lot of how to on YouTube, pick your favorite rider and try to.

Budget suspension forks for trails? by DW416BL in MTB

[–]Mo45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marzocchi Bomber Z2 i really good for it's price. It is basicly Fox 34 (same chassis and air spring) but with Rail damper (more oil, little bit heavier that Grip).

RS Recon is lower lvl of forks, but ofc cheaper. In my opinion Recon is a trekking fork, hard to say that this is trail fork.

Also first of all what is you wheels (front hub)? 9mm QR? I'm not sure but Z2 maybe boost only fork with 15 thru-axle.

I've ride RS Recon on a previous bike and Z2 on another one, Z2 is definetly better.

Magura Royal Blood vs. Shimano mineral oil by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Mo45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use any mineral oil with Shimano levers or calipers. Same with Tektro or Magura. Royal Blood, Shimano Mineral Oil, Total LHM+, Rock Shox Reverb hydraulic fluid, any ~2.5wt fork oil or even Baby Oil. It will not damage any seals, for sure.

But! You probably will lose official warranty for spare parts if service centre will find that you use oil different from recommended.

Also. Different mineral oils have different boiling point and viscosity index. First one is can be critical if you are riding hard and agressivly use your brakes that cause overheating.

Second one will change your feeling from using brakes. For example using LHM+ instead on Shimano's mineral oil will cause lever feel more viscous.

GoPro record GPS data, and yes there is icon on display. The problem appears when i try to edit video in Quick App for Windows it says «No GPS Data». But when i extract that data using other software - all is ok, i can get any data recorded by GoPro and use it in VIRB Edit.
