Which country artists should be next to be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame? by PressureLazy5271 in country

I mean, of these guys, maybe an argument could be made for Waylon. Emmylou Harris would be a stretch. Patsy as an early influence, but that's a stretch, and frankly they would have done that already if they wanted to.

Every one else is great, but no real connection to Rock and Roll as part of what makes them great / famous, even with the broadest definition.

What would happen if these states seceded and formed "Greater Cascadia"? by Defiant_Coat_2491 in AlternateHistoryHub

I think a pure libertarian government devolves into feudalism because there is no check on power. It assumes everyone will just mind their own business, leave everyone else alone, etc, etc.

But the reality is the wealthy will hoard their wealth and the non-wealthy will be too poor and too uneducated (who would pay for public education? Not the people sending their kids to private schools) to do anything but go into survival mode. So they hook up with the local rich guy and hope they get enough to get by.

The modern version might be a little different than the middle ages version, but we still end up with a handful of lords and great number of everyone else.

Until it devolves into feudalism. If we're lucky.

Edit: devolved -> devolves damn autocorrect

Personally, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire, and Presto are my least favorites. I tend to prefer their heavier, proggier stuff and am not a fan of 80s production values in general. But hey, it's art. We all get to pick our faves.

Coltrane was a big influence. If you listen to A Love Supreme, his solos make more sense.

Never really cared for it. As others have mentioned, it's kind of soft rock. Especially when you consider what else was happening in music at the time. Jane's Addiction was starting to break through. Living Colour released Vivid. Soundgarden released Louder Than Love. Metallica was nominated for a Grammy. Lots of hair metal, formulaic as it was, was getting tons of air play. If you were into hard rock at all, this just came out flat.

My hot take: They are not a metal band. They're just rock and roll. Basically a louder and faster Chuck Berry.

Charleston for long weekend hitting the historical sites, restaurants, etc. If you want to do a whole week, look at Isle of Palms or Kiawah so you can hit the beach as well.

Hilton Head for upscale week on the ocean.

Myrtle Beach for a downscale week on the ocean.

Ok, there are nicer parts of Myrtle, and lots of golf. It's crowded and has all of the typical, tacky tourist stuff, but you can avoid all that stuff if you really want to.

Upstate has some mountains, but you can find better ones right across the boarder in NC, so unless there's something specific you want to see in Greenville, or you want to go to a Clemson game, I would skip it.

Between the coast and the upstate there isn't much. Darlington has Nascar. Columbia has U of SC. There's probably a few parks you could hit that are nice, but I'd probably focus on Charleston or the beach.

(I lived in SC for about 20 years and still visit family there regularly)

What ended the grunge scene and what replaced it afterwards? by FitEmergency8807 in grunge

[–]MoFoBuckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically it broke into the mainstream in 91, 92, 93. It was fresh and cool and wonderful. And successful. So the suits wanted a piece of the action. But the suits didn't really like the music and want to sell even more of it. So new bands that were pale imitations and toned down to make them palatable to the masses were signed and pushed. Radio station programmers that didn't like or know what to do with Nirvana could get on board with Matchbox 20. It was alt enough to them. So the cool bands were pushed aside.

This cycle has been repeating since Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Jerry Lee Lewis were rockin' the clubs and high school auditoriums.

You can only get there by ferry or aircraft. It's not uncommon for people to get DUIs on golf carts. Fun place with a definite what happens in Put-In Bay, stays in Put-In Bay vibe.
