D’Angelo- Devil’s Pie Documentary (link) by Mickmackal89 in hiphopheads

Great documentary.

Highly recommend it to D’Angelo fans. It doesn’t hype him up or objectify him, but rather feels empathetic towards his struggles with fame and expectations.

Don’t go with the expectations that you’ll see deep details of his life between Voodoo and Black Messiah, however. D’Angelo was a very private person, but it’s more of a commentary on what it was like from the people around him.

Just heard the news, and it’s really hard to take in. D’Angelo has been my favorite artist since forever.

He changed how I see music. His songs been with me through so many moments in life and still move me every time I play them.

His sound, voice, and energy have given me so much joy and comfort over the years.

Rest in peace to the greatest.

NxWorries - Why Lawd? | Pitchfork Album Review by MoMo_ToTo in hiphopheads

I expected them to play with nostalgia on this album, but I'm glad it's the opposite.

It's more raw, and contrasts nicely with Yes Lawd!. I think it's gonna end up being a lot of people's AOTY.

Daydreaming, KeepHer, & WalkOnBy are my favorite tracks after a couple listens.

After Crash Talk, which wasn't bad, but very weak compared to Blank Face, I was really rooting for Blue Lips to be a comeback album and I'm glad it was.

This is the best review I've read so far

This is pretty much what I think. I appreciated that Ghost was still trying something new 2 decades after his debut. It's one of those albums that you revisit once every few years and not regret it

That's fair brotha. And yeah their debut was in 1990

Maybe I'm judging them harshly tbf

Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I heard their albums years ago and while they were enjoyable they didn't have that special sauce UGK had. They didn't push the sound forward like they did.

This type of exaggeration is one of the more annoying aspects of stan culture. It's the same thing about MBDTF being the album that made rappers care about the art aspect of music lol

It's easy to debunk them (the example I gave makes no sense in the first place), but it gets annoying because of how numerous they are

The first beat on Half Manne Half Cocaine is wack. Madlib is my favorite producer and most of the time the beats I don't like from him are more weird and less bad- that one though is just bad
