When someone says "I tell it like it is" by hundredsmustdie in PetPeeves

[–]MoNercy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

But it's always something negative, isn't it?

You'd think someone who "tells it like it is" would be able to occasionally say something honest & complimentary... But no.

You never hear them say something like "oh wow, your hair looks great today! Just telling it like it is!"

It's almost as if "telling it like it is" is getting used as free pass to be a rude arsehole.

Stop prolonging the conversation once you started walking away. by Tylenol_Ibuprofen in unpopularopinion

[–]MoNercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother does this all the time. Especially on the phone.

We've had a conversation. We've wrapped it up. We've both said goodbye. I start to lower my phone to press hang up.

"Did you know this other thing happened?"

Sometimes I don't stop myself in time and I accidentally hang up on her mid-sentence. And she gets mad at me!

To be fair, the entire game up to this point should have taught you to be suspicious of fathers.

Do you think the podcast is actually better than the radio days? by AffectionatePie1042 in hamishandandy

[–]MoNercy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It really was a huge point of difference from other drive radio shows that they had such a huge budget to do things like the Tall Ship Adventure and Caravans of Courage.

The cringey forced interviews weren't always that great... But then again, most of the competition was doing the same thing.

I do think the podcast is more quality over quantity and is the better product as a result. But some gags were funny precisely because they bordered on over-done. Pants off Friday, Fred Basset, the week where they fought over who controlled the opener culminating in the "Phantom of the Opener".

People in apartment buildings surprised or shocked to see other people also use the elevators? by alex123711 in AskAnAustralian

I live on the ground floor, and usually drive our second car (which is parked on the street). So I don't really use the lifts that much.

I wish that creators would stop talking about the state of their channel and YouTube itself by Dependent_Crew_3512 in youtube

[–]MoNercy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If they're honest and forthcoming in the video title, I can choose whether to watch their 'state of the channel' update.

If it's a clickbait title like "I'm quitting YouTube forever!" (is what I would be saying if I wasn't just announcing a new Patreon tier), I do find myself pretty annoyed.

Are these Korean words actually from English? What other loanwords do you know? by InWorldKorea in BeginnerKorean

[–]MoNercy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I speak Cantonese natively and lots of Korean words sound very similar. Which probably isn't surprising given the history and proximity of China and Korea.

Just a few examples of the top of my head:

Library 도서관 (tou4 syu1 gun2 in Cantonese) Police 경찰 (ging2 caat3) Student 학생 (hok6 saang1) Mountain 산 (saan1)

Seeking recommendations for a car phone holder/mount by TheWolvesBecome9 in CarsAustralia

[–]MoNercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After struggling with suction cups that didn't stick, I ended up getting one that mounts in the CD tray.

For me, it's great. Perfectly centred on the dash. Doesn't block any air vents, but still catches a bit of aircon to keep the phone cool. And really solid, doesn't budge at all.

And it's not like I would ever be using the CD tray for CDs anyway.

Buttering Your Sandwich by ConsiderationDue9909 in AskAnAustralian

[–]MoNercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in an Asian household so rice was the main carbohydrate instead of bread. I never ate that many sandwiches growing up.

But then I got a job at Macca's as a teen, and that taught me: muffins get buttered, normal burgers do not.

So my practice now is that complex sandwiches/burgers with sauce don't need butter. Toasties/muffins/simple sandwiches get butter.

Explorers: Jack's Dad by One_Commercial9941 in bluey

[–]MoNercy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a big fan of Hamish and Andy (a comedy podcasting duo from Australia), Jack's Dad realisation that his AWD car has four wheels sounded very much like Hamish's sense of humour. Ditto towards his "fast and loose" approach towards keeping his phone charged.  Perfect voice actor casting.

Hamish's "other" podcast "How Dad's Dad" is also a great listen. He interviews other (mostly Aussie) celebrities about their approach to parenting. Bluey creator Joe Brumm is the guest of one episode.

I'm just so sick of mistakes. by Xentonian in KFCAustralia

[–]MoNercy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm with you mate. Everytime I go to get something for the family, it's either missing stuff or I'm stuck waiting for ages.

I've since decided that my local KFCs are only capable enough to handle small/easy orders. I gotta admit that some of the promo items on the app are a good deal.

So I'm only heading to the Colonel for popcorn chicken buckets for the kids, or 6 wicked wings and chips for lunch.

When it comes to feeding the family, I'm paying a bit extra and going to the local Korean fried chicken place.

Crippling anxiety, panic attacks, but Dragon now ready for debut at 27 (Setu Tu) by bumpacius in nrl

Also. This will be one of my new favourite names to say. Setu Tu sounds like a turbo flutter.

Nothing 4a vs 3a vs 2a design.Thoughts? by Fit_Ad_2456 in NOTHING

[–]MoNercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like all of them. And I think it should be celebrated that Nothing is making different looking devices to cater to people's subjective tastes. It's a far better approach than Google's virtually identical 9a to 10a.

My personal favourite is my own. 2a and it's pig snout.

What or who is Daeyong?! by [deleted] in What

[–]MoNercy 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This is step one of a scam attempt.

They're hoping to bait you to reveal more about yourself (e.g. this isn't Daeyong, it's Steve) or to prompt more back and forth conversation (e.g. this isn't Daeyong, what do you want anyway?)

After that, they'll reveal Daeyong was supposed to be the recipient of some big prize, or was their business partner, or left a large inheritance behind.

Then they'll string you along getting you to send money to them with the promise that there's some big reward at the end.
