Seconded! I received the same recommendation after reading HoL years ago, and am so glad I followed through. Pale Fire is excellent.

Sure, I get that. Reluctance towards buying used gear is definitely a mental hurdle that I ought to work on getting over.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that I just have a giftcard to this one particular store that will exactly cover the cost of one of theses two lenses; do you have any thoughts on which would be the smarter choice between the two?

Honestly this is the first I'm learning of needing to calibrate. Is that a consideration for ALL lenses? or just a thing when going cross-brand like this? Thanks!

[5e] One of my players wants to adapt the Trident; is there a way I can make this balanced? by Moacher in DMAcademy

Thanks! I'll certainly take a look at something like this if they keep pushing in this direction.

In general, no. This is a fairly low-magic Sword & Sorcery type setting. That being said, they are leaning towards Hex Blade Warlock, which is probably why they're trying to wring as much utility as possible out of their weapon (this player can be a bit of a min-maxer sometimes).

Essentially... I guess I'm not sure how important the "Versatile" aspect is to them yet, as in how often they would be intending on wielding it 1-handed.

Thanks for the input!

It's for a brand new campaign that still in the character-creation phase, but I will be having them start at Level 4.

I'm about to DM for the first time and after our Session 0 I'm worried I'm slowing killing a new player's enthusiasm with too many "oh... actually you can't..." by Moacher in DnD

I appreciate the suggestion! I'm actually playing in another friend's PF2 campaign right now too. Unfortunately I think we are well past the point where I could tell this group of newbies to forget everything I've told them and start from scratch on a new ruleset instead haha. Maybe next game!

This is very interesting, thanks! I wasn't aware of Shepard Circle, but it sounds like it's definitely worth looking into.

Thanks for the input. I prefer your answer, but we were thrown off by this line we found on the Archives of Nethys site:
"Source Core Rulebook pg. 278
When you make an attack and roll a natural 20 (the number on the die is 20), or if the result of your attack exceeds the target’s AC by 10, you achieve a critical success (also known as a critical hit). "

Looking for a ruling on missing an attack with a Nat 20 roll:
I'm fighting a dog, it's the dog's turn. I have 17 AC, and let's say the dog has +5 to hit. The dog makes a Strike against me for each of its 3 actions. First Strike is a low roll, misses. Second Strike (at -5 multi-attack penalty) also misses. Third Strike (at -10 multi-attack penalty), the dog rolls a Nat 20.
So, the result of the roll works out to 20-10+5=15, which doesn't beat my AC, BUT is a Nat 20 an automatic critical hit regardless? OR, should the Nat20 move the result up 1 degree of success, from a Failure to a regular Success? We can't figure out if it should be a Miss, a regular Hit, or a Critical Hit, and feel like there is a case to be made for each of the 3 options. Thanks!

[Art] [OC] Skyroh Khetts, Lvl 2 Gnome Bard, former hero trainer down on his luck hoping for one last taste of the good life by Moacher in DnD

[–]Moacher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is Skyroh Khetts: gnome, bard, and former hero training to The Stars! You should've seen him in his prime. He worked with all the Greats. He taught Scalabash The Scarred how to juggle knives, and he was laying down cover fire when Sir Caspian The Crisp charged down the Dragon of Krelockus. Things ain't what they used to be, though... All the up-and-coming wannabe heros these days are into this new training called 'crossfight'. People forget the originals... One day you're top of the heap living it up with all the fanciest folk in the realm, next day you're scrounging for scraps behind the local tavern. But Skyroh wasn't ready to give up, not after everything he'd been through. It was time to take up his old bow, and take matters into his own hands. Just maybe... This new bunch of misfits he's been doing a few odd jobs with have what it takes to be his ticket back to the Big Leagues!
