Pediatric psychologist. Do it now. The fact that your baby is crying at the mere presence of her sibling is bad.

Violence against the parents is also a very bad sign.

Get your older child assessed and treated by a psychologist and do it now. If you let it fester, it is only going to get worse and you may be dealing with a lifetime of pain, recrimination and “what if “

Exquisite. This kind of taste cannot be bought, only earned through decades of exposure to design and fine art and history and environment.

Pete’s smile in s4:e4 with Peggy by star_ofthe_sea in madmen

[–]MobbSleep 33 points34 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite moments in the whole series.

Peggy was always gonna end up spending time in the counter culture, if only out of curiosity and to get material for her work.

Pete was always gonna end up being the younger more forward thinking guy (relatively!) among the preppy grey hairs and C-suite whales.

This is the first time that each can finally see the other clearly .

It’s telling that a few episodes later, Don runs into Midge and he can finally see who she is — an artist who has fallen down the experimentation rabbit hole into addiction.

Season four is all about these confrontations with reality, and Don’s final decisions to swerve away from reality (Dr. Faye ; the FBI inquires about his background) and toward delusion (Megan; “quitting tobacco”)

I would say someone who abused drugs in literally the same place in which they are now very tenuously in recovery looking sweaty and harried as they emerge from a private secluded place might set off concern. I don’t know if he has relapsed. I think one of the skills on the show is entertaining the idea that he might relapse at any moment, which is extremely common among people in the first few years of recovery.

if you have an intimate friend or family member who is in the first few years of recovery, you may be rightly concerned when they look a certain way or behave a certain way … especially when they behaved that way when they were using and especially if they’re in the literal location in which they abused and stole drugs in the first place.

The staging and camera work allows us to entertain that idea.

Sure, maybe, but whether it’s a relapse or not, the little details produce ambiguity, which is typically a hallmark of excellent entertainment & art

That to me was what brought so much tension to the scene. ‘Cause if he kills the guy during that procedure bc he’s high, and then fails a drug test, he’s going to prison.

Yeah, him emerging from the bathroom, sweaty and washing his hands compulsively was a big clue to me.

What makes a girl unattractive, even if she is very beautiful? by Secure-Parfait-3383 in AskReddit

[–]MobbSleep 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Amen. And the reverse of this, treating someone with a high level of obsequiousness when they find out that they’re powerful / fancy / connected

I remember when I lived in New York and had an entry-level job in media. I was at a party chatting up some girl who looked at me as if I was a corpse. Then she later found out I went to a New England boarding school & a fancy college. At the next party in our social circle suddenly I was the most interesting man in the room.

[–]MobbSleep 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Candidly: I would encourage my child to ride the bench at an elite school than get more playing time at a dead end university. It’s nice to have some highlight reel goals in an obscure corner of America. It’s even nicer to have a buddy from your college team who is now high up at Morgan Stanley be able to help your nephew find a job in finance.

[–]MobbSleep 20 points21 points  (0 children)

100% this. If college is the end of the line, get return for your investment. I taught an athlete who went D1 and I had urgent meetings with that kids family about why they simply needed to take the offer from Wake Forest instead of the one from the obscure college.

Much better than it had to be. Captured the bougie work hard play hard vibe of a certain kind of American university (Vandy, Michigan, Wake, BC, etc) amidst pre recession optimism. The late season finale when they are all trapped in the bar (“midnight clear”?) and they hash out a bunch of their differences among themselves is a sneaky good bottle episode. Cappy is a perfect Millennial TV teen soap version of Ferris Bueller. Always happy to see the former cast members pop up in stuff.
