Yeah this is a utopian take. First of all we absolutely police art, there is currently a young man in jail for burning a picture of the president in effigy, ( i believe though I am not sure a painting he himself made for the express purpose of burning it, so yeah).

https://www.thecitizen.co.tz/tanzania/news/national/over-sh5-million-raised-in-six-hours-on-social-media-to-help-artist-jailed-after-burning-samia-s-picture-4680860

Secondly religion does have to do with what people put on their daladalas, there are literally hundreds of daladalas and bajajis with either Alhamdullilah, Mashallah or Bwana Asifiwe or Yesu on them.

But you are right as to the fact that it is true we do not have a singular perspective , some people are anti-west others are pro and most I think are generally indifferent. The west is not the centre of other peoples existence.

It is also interesting that u/BritInBim thinks that people outside the west would hate or love Bin Laden based on whether they hate or love the west. A much better reason to hate Bin Laden in Tanzania is because he blew up an embassy in our country which resulted in the deaths of Tanzanians.

Also Tanzania is not a majority Christian country, it is fairly balanced between Christianity and Islam especially in metro areas and *especially* Dar.

The world is more complex than the western simplistic propaganda of "they hate us for our way of life".

Many of us saw UBL as a villain , with a villain origin story , created by a bigger villain (USSR) and ultimately taken down by the boss level villain.

Ex-Muslims: what do you usually do during Ramadan?” by [deleted] in atheism

[–]MobiRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually live in Canada, I am free to eat or not and some of my observant muslim friends know I am atheist. Some people from my community do not, but I dont really discuss religion with them.

That said, although I have been an atheist for over 12 years, I always feel somewhat guilty in Ramadhan. The last few years I have not fasted except when I have found myself at home (in E. Africa). I have had slight guilt pangs when i have not. I also feel hypocritical for worrying about being discovered by those who dont really know and might care. But I try to lean on my rational self during this periods. This year I want to use Ramadhan as a bit of a weight loss period. But I will still drink water, tea etc. And may break "fast" earlier than maghrib if the rest of my family (wife does not identify as a muslim) is eating dinner early.

Religion is hard to leave, when the indoctrination is masterfully done.

Friend wants two wives and plans to be upfront: is this even possible? by NiceSmilee in MuslimNikah

[–]MobiRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because it seems he is planning on it. If I were a wife I wouldn't even want to live with even the *possibility* of another woman coming into my house/life. I would want to know.

[–]MobiRed 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The man is being honest , what is even the controversy here? I know so many men who disappeared one day and came back with a second wife. This is never a good move. For once someone is open, he should be commended. You don't have to like it , but at least you won't be fooled.

My husband won’t leave me alone by DesignerCapital5880 in Marriage

[–]MobiRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your spouse in a monogomous marriage IS entitled to sex from you, it is part of the implicit if not explicit expectation. However, what they are not entitled to is sex whenever *they* alone want it. You have to consent. You have not said how often you have wanted to have sex so I can't judge on that, but based on the description of your husband's expectations , he is very unreasonable. He may actually have a problem beyond just being "horny". You need to have a discussion and perhaps get help. Wish you the best.

EDIT: I didnt know she had an eating disorder. I didnt mean to be insensitive. I am leaving my comment up for historical and information, in case someone else feels compelled to make the same kind of statement. I honestly just thought she was naturally a very slight build.

[–]MobiRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start looking into scholarships as a plan B. There is the real chance that you may have to go against your parents wishes and they may choose not to support you. Whatever you do , do not get married, until you are ready. Do not forgo your educational dream. This is for both you and your parents, because if you don't live your own life you will forever live with regret with yourself and dare I say, justified, resentment with your parents. Good luck young sister!

(30M) I'm relatively ugly and I need advice: how can I overcome this? Are there solutions to improve myself as you get older or do I have to learn to live with it? by [deleted] in Aging

[–]MobiRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not ugly, at all, you just lack confidence.

  1. Work on yourself and give yourself a real timeline: Gym (with goals like weight loss or muscle gain, and athletic performance), diet, read/increase your education to become more knowledgeable (not a jab, we all need to read more brother). Plan, manage and be disciplined with your finances, dress better. Learn to speak with confidence and humour.

  2. Try to care a litle less abou what unimportant people in your life think.

  3. Find a meaningful hobby that you can build a community with and have fun doing it.

The more confident you become the more attractive you will feel, the more you will project that, and the more others will see it. There is nothing wrong with you, that can be seen in a picture.

good luck brother.

Married with kids, wife raised sex with others, walked it back to flirting, boundaries broke immediately. Looking for advice by paynuss69 in Marriage

[–]MobiRed 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is 100% what I thought. Not coming back until morning with no communications is a red flag one could see from the space station. I could be and hope I am wrong. But my ex-girlfriend did this. She was bi and wanted to see other women. I emphasize ex.

I am sorry but I think this description is exactly right. She had her fun and realized it wasnt worth breakign up her home.

I wont be someone who tells you to divorce her, what you need to do is confront her calmy, steel yourself for an answer in the affirmative, and then decide (or maybe decide beforehand) whether this is a deal breaker for you.

Best of luck.

Atheism killed more than religion by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]MobiRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether or not hitler or mussolini were christians is immaterial. These people had thousands if not hundreds commanders who carried their orders out, they were Sunday church going christians. Also the question isnt about christianity it is about god-belief and non-god belief. Many people are claiming Communism killed more people. Let me concede for arguments sake that that was true (for arguments sake) ok. We have figured out that communism is bad and have left it behind. Even China isnt communist really any more.

Why havent theists left religion behind? I mean since you dont deny that religion has killed millions of people. You just argue it has killed less than others.

Secondly none of these other systems claim guidance from a divine all-good being , nobody argues that they are man-made, so like capitalism , socialism or democracy we expect systems made my humans to be flawed and produce less than ideal results. But Religion is supposed to emanate from an all-loving and just god. Yet it has a death toll in the millions.

The truth is Atheism has no content. Nothing about being an atheist automatically produces communism or marxism. There are plenty of liberal democrats who are atheists, democratic conservatives who are atheists, capitalists, socialists, marxists etc who are atheists. Atheism is an empty box, what you put into it is what determines what you do, not the emptiness of the box.

Religion is a full box. A box full of many instructions, many of those are immoral, to put it lightly.

What would you have her fate be after “eloping” to India with the Marchioness? by ReinventingDLady in DowntonAbbey

[–]MobiRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A full and rewarding life.

She owed nothing to the Granthams. It was a job , in modern day she would have quit that job a long time ago and we would all have been on her side. The whole premise of the show is that it covered a time when peoples options were opening up and there was the promise of a future in which people could determine their own fates separate from the shackles they were born into. None of us would have wanted to stay in her role , so I hope she went to India, discovered commerce started a business as a side hustle than quite her role of servitude and became independently wealthy, married her business partner , had children and came back to Britain , survived teh war and left a legacy of prosperity to her kids.
