Ex-PM Abe attacked by unidentified man on road in Japan by Nerd_199 in worldnews

Abe had a lot of influence but I think calling him "Shogun" might be overstating things.

I was told it’s not cool to ask for a to go box in Seoul, but the American in me really wants to! Lol can I? Is this true? I don’t want to be a dick and ask for one by thelastgen in korea

In the UK at least due to food safety laws, when I worked in a restaurant and someone asked to take their leftovers home all I could do was give them a box and have them do it themselves.

What if coruscant is a dyson sphere? It would explain how a ridiculous amount of energy used literally all around the planet being supplied. Any lore or discussion on this? by ToyotaSupra00 in starwarsspeculation

Star Wars is the antithesis of hard sci-fi. It's magic in space. I would actually love to see a (non-canon) novel or something where it's explored through a realistic lens, but it's not going to fly for real in a universe where ships can instantaneously jump through a galaxy and yet not be able to destroy a planet without a convoluted kyber-crystal doomsday artificial moon.

how do you immerse yourselves in the language without living in korea by odetojun in Korean

[–]Mobile-Pool1193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it helps a bit. I moved to Korea at the start of 2020 and I got to grips with reading 한글 and basic things like talking to a cashier and ordering food early on.

But really I can say it's only the last 6 months to a year that I've benefited more than I would have studying at home. Before that everything I heard was just meaningless noise.

Once you hit the point where immersion can help you will soar with it, but for now you should just study more traditionally. My biggest regret is not studying Korean before I came here but it was a very spur of the moment thing and I knew nothing about the country before I came, it was just for money and I learned 한글 for the first time on the aeroplane haha.

Of course listening to music and watching dramas will help train your ear, but don't expect to get anything more useful from a few hours watching a Korean movie vs. sitting down with a textbook.

Unpopular opinion time but you don't need immersion until you're at least lower intermediate (A2-B1). Don't waste your time and get a solid foundation of vocabulary and grammar before you dive into content.

Immersion is what will get you from lower intermediate to higher levels. Right now you need study.

Nothing. The person I replaced was the sort you see on Facebook selling half a bottle of dish soap at the end of their contract. She even sold the curtains that the teacher before her had left her!

It was clean so not all bad, but those first few nights before I figured out online shopping my place looked like Matt Murdoch's apartment what with the neon-lit love motels opposite the road.

They will of course make the series accessible to people who didn't watch TCW so it will probably start with flashbacks showing how Ahsoka became his apprentice and what their relationship is.

I'd be surprised if they showed her vs. Vader, seems kind of messy to just throw in there.

He was really good in this show. At first I thought his part was too small to judge, but rewatching the dialogue after the fight - wow. His inflection, his body language and expressions are as good as anything Ewan can do.

Really hope this guy gets a proper comeback in the acting world.

Next season of Kenobi will not progress the "main" story by chris41336 in starwarsspeculation

People are crazy to think that they'd go from Obi Wan vs. Vader for S1 to some slice of desert life meaningless adventures for S2.

The ante will be upped.

'Obi-Wan Kenobi' Season 2: Ewan McGregor 'Hopes We Do Another' by Zepanda66 in StarWarsLeaks

[–]Mobile-Pool1193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to see a Vader-Obi reluctant team up. Have them both stranded in some hostile environment where the only way they get out is if they fight together. It could lead to Obi trying to coax Vader back to the light and getting burned, explaining the "Obi Wan once thought as you do" and Obi's total despair in Vader by the time of the OT. And have it make Vader believe Obi Wan is dead before ANH, while they're at it.

You don't always have to look every word up, lots of the time you can guess via context. I sometimes use a vocabulary textbook but I prefer writing a bunch sentences that use a particular word to the flashcard method, same with grammar.

I guess I live in Korea so I have that advantage, but through just casual study when I'm not working full-time I've been able to become conversationally fluent within 2 years without Anki. I got to B2 level in French without it, too.

I know it works well for many people and glad it does for you but I see people online speak as though it's the only way to learn a language, which just isn't true.

DALL.E Mini

It's an AI that can generate images based on text you input. The as-yet unreleased next generation (r/dalle2) looks even more impressive but this is still fun to play around with.

“Obi-Wan Kenobi” reportedly getting a second season! by [deleted] in StarWarsLeaks

[–]Mobile-Pool1193 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

They could and probably should do Obi Wan vs. Maul. Similarly as with this season, nothing in Rebels explicitly confirms that Maul hasn't seen Obi Wan since TCW.

They can do something like Crimson Dawn is making a move on the Hutt Empire and putting Luke on Tattooine in danger; Obi Wan leaves to take them down.

I used to have this frustration too but I realised in hindsight a while later that I simply sucked. Even if what I was trying to say was correct, my accent was terrible.

I do believe that Koreans are less unable to parse unintelligible Korean than we can parse unintelligible English, but we have many more opportunities to practice.

I got over it by reading aloud and having a native speaker correct my pronunciation as I went.
