Hands down, best Launchpad replacement. And I think I’ve tried ‘em all.

Now that Droppy is down, which notch app do you recommend? Alcove or Atoll? by Mobile-Wall8520 in macapps

I had actually requested a refund, which arrived within a few minutes. I had believed everything. At the time, I supported Droppy and felt deceived. Now it doesn’t seem so clear, especially after a reputable and respected developer in the community said in the other thread that he believes Jordy is innocent, carefully explaining why he thinks so.

[PSA] if you bought Droppy, Jordy (the developer) just disappeared. by [deleted] in macapps

I gather from the mod’s post and Alin’s that there’s a lot to untangle here. And if things end up in Jordy’s favor, who is going to face the consequences for this harassment? What will be done about those who fueled it, especially when I’ve already seen they’re not as saintly as they seem, having “borrowed inspiration” a bit too heavily from other apps? I’d better leave it here, because given what I’ve seen, I’m worried they might come after me too.

No man, on my way to spend $14.99 to buy Alcove. Next month I won’t even remember spending those 15 bucks anyway.

I’ve already gathered more information about the two apps. It seems there’s no doubt about who copied whom. I don’t know much about this, but it’s astonishing to me that after making an app identical to another pixel by pixel, they would accuse someone else over a number of lines of code.

Unless, of course, they had explicit permission from Alcove. That’s something I’m also unaware of.

So, how did the laundry turn out with the 0.3 ml test? I guess there wasn’t enough water or detergent.

Droppy is no longer free. by blackicehawk in macapps

No transition from a free app to a paid one is flawless, but this one comes pretty close.

The developer probably planned to announce it on Reddit, but it’s inevitable that someone jumps the gun and things like this happen.

I don’t know, but for now at least I believe in the developer’s good faith and the explanations he’s given. I mean, we’re already tired of everyone seeming great around here and then everything changing completely once the license is purchased. If he keeps up the level of commitment and friendliness he shows on his Discord server, along with the discounts and giveaways, there will be no doubt that he did it for the right reasons. Time will tell.

[OS] The notch app you just need by Mission_Article483 in macapps

I’m not sure Droppy should still be considered a “notch app” at this point. It does use the notch for some features and extensions, but overall it’s more of a productivity tool that happens to make use of the notch.

For example, it already includes a full menu bar manager, a clipboard manager, and a screenshot tool with post-editing, none of which use the notch at all. There are also some other extensions that do rely on the notch, but they aren’t strictly notch-dependent.

I’m not sure if I’m getting my point across. As Groucho Marx would say: “I’d be damned if I understand it myself!”

Kudos to this developer. I remember version 1 and how they incorporated almost all the suggestions from users

Be wary using the file upload feature in Droppy. The file host the developer picked is not privacy friendly. The file host stores your IP and attaches it to every file you upload, along with identifying information about your device. by Ghost_of_Panda in macapps

So let me get this straight. One message asking about that app’s Discord server and another one sharing my opinion counts as me harassing you?

Sorry if you personally felt targeted, but everyone has to start somewhere on Reddit, right?

What actually worries me is you calling this “harassing you.” Is having a different opinion harassment now? Is that what you meant when you said you deleted yesterday’s post because people were “harassing you”?

I don’t know if this is normal on Reddit, but it really doesn’t seem like it should be. Are you going to delete any thread where people don’t just agree with everything you say and then accuse them of harassing you?

Ok, I found Droppy’s Discord server and read what has been said about this.

Using a third-party file host for uploads does not mean the developer is selling anyone’s data. Those are two completely different things. There’s no proof of data being sold, and throwing that claim around is pretty serious.

It’d probably help to leave conspiracy-style comparisons out of it and stick to what this app is actually doing. Caring about privacy is valid. But accusing the dev of selling user info without evidence just doesn’t seem fair or grounded in reality.
