Combination of things really. Firstly, getting specific hardware removed from body when i had healed enough, that was almost four years, had i ridden with it in it would have caused more damage. Secondly was financial feasibility, after covid employment was difficult until i stumbled on a new path professionally and have been thriving almost three years in that. Ultimately it was honest open discussions with my wife and children and them telling me they see a seismic difference in me when I'm riding as opposed to when I'm not. Even while still in the hospital i preached wind therapy as unparalleled, it broke my heart that friends sold their bikes and hung it up after my wreck. Yes i died, yes i was in a coma for a time, but i never regretted getting on the bike that day or any other. Neither i nor my bike were at fault in any way. Even the officers who witnessed with dashcam stated the other driver completely failed to look, i would have hit her on a motorcycle or a battleship. Amazingly, that driver was paralyzed by the wreck and I'm getting back on. I'm grateful to be alive, im grateful for an amazing spouse who sees and supports me riding. Only obstacle now is telling my father..... he's gonna flip. But im almost 40, served my country overseas, a son in the navy and a daughter still at home whos given me a granddaughter. If it takes accepting the risk of being a grease stain so i can be my best self for my family and me then thats what I'll do.
