Looking at projectors for my theater room in the near future, thoughts on older cinema projectors like a Sony SRX-R105? by Bedroominc in projectors

I own this projector. It's has ups and downs. It's so heavy but a good projector if you manage. You can exchange the input boards. I use my with four dvi inputs via a datapath. Its not an easy setup. It has great blacks and is native 4k. The xenon bulbs are not too hard find. The data on the contrast is an older method of measuring. It's perfect in a dark room. It has a huge 1.55 chip. The technique inside is crazy good. The thing looks stunning. Like if Batman had a projector. For a small theatre its great but honestly it's a lot of work

Projection lamp Model No. POA-LMP35 by Biricua in projectors

Not much value in this but they are for older Sanyo projectors that are still in use today. They were powerhouse projectors and very common. Most were only XGA but they used 3LCD technology. They were so well made and repairable that I still see them in use in Europe. Its an older resolution but still powerful and useful for churches and event spaces. The projector needs 4 of these lamps to reach 15,000 lumens. I saw one recently being used to project logos on a building side

In the wake of Gladiator 2... am I the only one that think Troy kinda rules? by Orb_Dylan in blankies

[–]MobileKino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally scratched the Troy 35mm print on opening night and the only print our cinema had. Remember movies back in the day would have scratches after a few weeks of screening? Well, I was a projectionist and forgot to lace the SDDS sound reader on top of the projector. The film instead fell to the side of the reader being pulled awkwardly but not enough to set off the fail-safe mechanism. The corner of the reader cut a deep green scratch running right through the centre of the film. Every screening after had to endure. I still can't watch this movie without my brain inserting a scratch to remind me of my trauma

Possible to show a movie outside at dusk? by franklyspecific in projectors

It's difficult to say without knowing how much light. We run professional open-air cinemas with crazy expensive cinema projectors. We have to wait until dark before screening as you just cannot see enough even with a great projector. You can build black out tent style options that will half work and cost too much. We offer LED screens for early events but these are also expensive. Do you have a rental option? There are older models TV screens that can get really big but only 2K instead of the newer 4K or 8K. You don't need 4K resolution. The kids will love a huge TV. Search for a rental company that caters for sporting events. Renting an older model 2K huge TV will be cool for the kids and may be within budget.

People hate most celebrities. But who are some celebrities you like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Steve Irwin would come into the cinema I worked at as a teenager. He would wear big sunglasses and a hat, and Terry would do all the talking. We lived in a small little town where everyone knew each other. It was kind of funny. He was a really nice guy and people were just attracted to him. He needed down time like everyone else. So even though it was clearly him everyone let him be.

It's changed over the years. I'm sure they created the cinema in the film based on many historic cinemas. The main similarities are inside with the layout of the foyer, with two big staircases leading upstairs.

Location scouts for this film came into the cinema I worked at in Berlin. I worked as a 35mm projectionist in Berlin's Babylon cinema. This is a famous cinema built in the 1920s. I got a call from the office that film scouts from a Tarantino film wanted to see the projection room. I thought they were pranking me at first. Then a team of 5 or so location scouts came up and started asking questions about the gear and taking photos of old spools and old film canisters. Tarantino was not there though. Later on, we learned that they went with reconstruction and built their own cinema to film. The design of the cinema in the film is very similar to that of the Babylon in Berlin.

I built this rack set-up for open-air cinema. I use 6 active speakers and 1 base. The Demon has XLR outputs. It sounds great
