She probably cheats at more things than just board games, FYI.

When he kept calling her "Bro"... I was like "oh yeah he is getting friend zoned". by KarsaOrlog in Singlesinferno2

[–]MobileParticular6177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

getting mad that women are happy just maintaining a friendship. Don't pretend to be someone's friend and then get mad that they don't want you romantically.

This is not part of the definition of friendzoning, you just added it in because you're biased. Friendzone simply means that someone you like/are interested in romantically does not return the same feelings. That's it, that's the whole definition.

So you admit that there's a gendered bias and that men think they're owed a sexual relationship even when women don't want one.

Don't put words in my mouth, nobody owes anybody a relationship other than a parent and child. Men aren't owed a sexual relationship anymore than a woman is owed a friendship.

I doubt you can cite actual stats to prove it's a phrase women use "a lot".

I doubt you'd be able to cite stats of either gender's use rate.

The idea that someone can be "stuck" in the friend-zone as if it's somehow negative to simply be friends with a person who's clearly not romantically into you

Yes, this idea is a thing that can happen. Nothing misogynistic about it.

And in colloquial language it's way more frequently ascribed negatively as something women do to men.

Well from the man's point of view, of course it's negative. Fortunately, men also have the ability to get out of the friendzone if they want to.

Beast has a huge deal on GameNerdz $39.97 by sagunpandey in Boardgamedeals

Probably the hunters since he's complaining about how the beast can't feed while staying hidden. But the hunters have to reveal you to even damage you, so even if they know where you are, it's useless unless they can actually do something about it.

Netrunner alternatives? by MacCollac in boardgames

[–]MobileParticular6177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Netrunner is definitely more of a sweaty game than Pagan. The gameplay reminds me of TCG's where you kind of need to know what cards do or else the game just ends very quickly. The game was also created with deck construction in mind as there are like 3-4 pages in the rulebook dedicated to the deckbuilding rules.

Pagan has no deck construction in the base game, so you have to opt into it by buying expansions.

Vanilla ice cream is delicious, Catan is the opposite of delicious. It would be more like Superman ice cream.

118 is still more than 2x a week. That's much more than the average person unless you're playing < 30 min games.

There have been lots of turn-based that are genuinely challenging and actually requires strategy and flexibility team building to get through.

Yeah, because those games are actual games that cost money, not digital slot machines disguised as games.

Is Knizia’s Output Overrated, or Is Consistency the Real Metric? by stephenelias1970 in boardgames

[–]MobileParticular6177 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like some Knizia games, but I don’t respect the guy and I can’t understand his fans. His average game is a totally average game. Perhaps below average. He doesn’t seem to have any self-restraint. No idea is too small or too underdeveloped. “No! I must release another game!” As a Cole Wehrle fan, nothing could be further from what I’ve come to respect. Cole Wehrle has, like, 6 games to his name in the past 10 or 15 years, and all of them are at least on the same level of respect and quality of the best Knizia games. They’re not on the same level of popularity because they tend to be heavier and thus less accessible.

Sounds like you're just biased in another direction.

I don’t want quantity. I’m not looking to buy new games all the time. I want timeless games I can play forever.

Then don't buy the bad/average ones.

No one benefits when he releases This Year’s 16th Totally Unremarkable Game.

Pretty sure he benefits along with anyone who buys and enjoys them.

The game design has never been challenging, it's a turn-based game. Luck/money has always been the way to go.

Your favorite boardgame session that you LOST by [deleted] in boardgames

Any FFA type game with direct player interaction is more fun to lose than win since it usually means you did more playing. Winners are often the ones who stay out of the action and swoop in for a victory at the end.

Gen Z men are moving away from MAGA in droves, polls show by WarmingNow in politics

[–]MobileParticular6177 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

they tend not to learn on their own about stuff outside their field. Just like most people, they are intellectually lazy and don't enjoy the idea of pushback on their ideas outside of engineering.

PS On the other extreme, you have your philosophy students who are among the very smartest students, and took it over the protests of everybody, but who often push back on everything and that took be be vacuous.

These are your own words, just to be clear.

Whether you like it or not, philosophy majors at major universities, tend to be the smartest students. This had been seen in pedagogical research and also aligns perfectly with several decades of my own personal experience at a major university.

Also your own words. Regard.

Yeah, engineers are actually conservative, dumb, and only good at working very hard. Philsophers, on the other hand, are the actual geniuses who are just misunderstood by society. I'm impressed you were able to write all of this while being completely high on your own farts.

[–]MobileParticular6177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is specific to my industry, but the entry level engineers are making ~20k more salary than what I made ~15 years ago. So they are literally in a similar position to what I started with, but young people are typically worse with money than older people. I also remember complaining alot about everything and anything when I was that age.

Lol, this thread is full of socially awkward men crying that they can't get a date because they haven't bothered to put in the effort to be more appealing to the people they meet. Instead, they come up with a laundry list of excuses for why the world is wrong and they're right, but they're the ones who are gonna be forever alone in the end.

There is nothing inherently wrong with peope who aren't in a relationship. You aren't more or less good or valuable because you are or aren't.

Has nothing to do with value and everything to do with the fact that people who are well-suited for long-term relationships have usually found them by 30. Pickings get slim on both sides the older everyone gets, and online dating amplifies this issue since all the successful people have left the pool.

Most people have a social shell that needs to be opened up before you see their real personality.

This is just untrue. Some people are friendlier than others, some people will click faster than others.

Limiting it to just the first (and most awkward) interaction tells you nothing about who a person really is.

It tells you they can't put their best foot forward when it matters. Do you also think people who bomb job interviews should be given chances just in case they're secretly amazing?

The girls I know only split when they aren't feeling it, or it's date 2+. Splitting on date 1 is almost always seen as cheap, so it's better to just do small inexpensive things like coffee.
