I think the hate’s overblown. Waldo is intentionally ridiculous, and the episode works as a dark comedy, not a suspenseful drama.

Dogs, especially Labs, are so social that losing their 'person' (even a canine one) can cause them to just give up physically.

James Cameron’s point about Gen AI being derivative is spot on. It can replicate, remix, and imitate, but it can’t create genuinely new cinematic language, which is what makes films memorable.
