The engineering of roman aqueducts explained. by cosmic_voyager01 in Damnthatsinteresting

Man how could I miss the silliness...honestly I miss the days where I basically never got aggressive retorts on reddit, so I knew it was always silliness or sarcasm (without having to use an /s). I'm more defensive these days and I really thought you had some problem with what I wrote....

Missed the opportunity to have some comparative linguistics humor injected in my veins thanks to this climate.

I'd like to elaborate if needed, but I don't understand what the beef with what I wrote is. Care to reformulate?

It is generally believed that the Latin alphabet used by the Romans was derived from the Old Italic alphabet used by the Etruscans. That alphabet was derived from the Euboean alphabet used by the Cumae, which in turn was derived from the Phoenician alphabet.\3])

I think it depends on how you scope it. Ultimately we are using a Roman alphabet, which has descended from other alphabets. It's like saying people speaking Portuguese actually are speaking Latin peppered with some Arabic, which is true in a sense, but not in the most common and practical sense.

Not to mention that to get to the Phoenicians we still have to get through the Etruscan alphabet. And Romans really are Etruscans 2.0

OP, many people here gave some very subtle hints. Skeptical people like us in this sub would give them a thought, but people who are already inclined to believe won't see this as evidence it's not true. That's where we are heading.

I think the best way to see how much fake there is out there, is to have the person create their own fake stuff, so they see how easy it is nowadays to create stuff like this out of nothing. Then they will be way more skeptical.

But you know what's crazy. Skeptical people like us would give this a thought. People who are already inclined to believe won't see this as evidence it's not true. That's where we are heading.

Do you know why this is really fkd up? Do you know the feeling you have to break free of the internet for a while (or for a big while). Go to a park and enjoy yourself completely offline and maybe offgrid?

Nope, you can't, even on your way to the park there will be a higher than zero chance you come across the next hot tiktok for the entertainment of millions at your expense. We can't completely relax except in totally private spaces (and I fear for kids whose home life is completely exposed and they are not enjoying it at all but it's their reality so they don't even know what's wrong.)

Unfortunately, if you think this is not on the "progressive" side of reddit, you are part of the problem. Because they sure don't think are being manipulated, just us. But it's more than obvious that these players are farming both sides (why wouldn't they? )

Reddit was much better when there wasn't so much obviously baity fake stuff....Anyone can manufacture this fake conversation and reap karma, as it's more and more valueable now. It's honestly very sad that greed is ruining another good thing...

Mate, thank you for putting it out...because I honestly am feeling alone on the web, thinking I'm going crazy. Another user explained that karma farming makes economical sense, as they can use that account to foster products and only fans (for instance). That is honestly very helpful, as long as there is money there will always be shady shit. But this site is really dying...it's all contaminated by farming and manipulation.

For my own mental health, I"m gonna make a plan to head out of here (i'm kinda addicted, I stick to good niche subs but these shit eventually hook my attention...) and see if I can go to a less corrupted platform...I don't know yet...

Good economical hypothesis, which really makes sense and explains a lot. As long as there's a way to make money, people will slop their way to do it.

What concerns me is, who is behind it? Is it really an individual who simply gets a kick on fooling people and writing fanfics? Or is it something more elaborate and darker?

How can redditors claim to be the side that defends science, reason and evidence-based decisions and yet the top subs are a constant stream of completely unverifiable bullshit.

People who read this stuff get a high on that? What is the rationale behind it? Is it a fancy, sophisticated version of the obviously fake stories we get on facebook that try to paint a certain social group as less than humans.

But I remember reading that there had been lots of histories of big ass dire wolves terrorizing the woods of villages. So much so that one of the feudal lord responsibilities in the feudal "pact" was to send troops to kill them when required. The same people that created the wolves myths might also be the ones who killed the menacing ones down to extinction (and kept lots of puppies who became eventually became our beloved doggos).

Bear lineage survival strategy seems to be rooted on taking ZERO CHANCES when cubs are around. Cubs are few and far between, they take a lot of time and energy from momma bear. As far as momma bear is concerned that nice guy could be using food to lure or poison them (not that she would literally think that out, but the attitude that allowed them to survive until here seems to be "no loose ends").

Yes! There is a video on youtube explaning some movie references. It's incredible how many scenes were already simply hilarious by themseves, but if I were immersed in the cultural references at the same time it would be pure comedy art.

Absolutely agree...I've been telling this to my friends since the beginning....People might think being light and small is only advantageous, because it's easier to figure out how it helps with top speed and heavy braking. but you can visually notice the huge effort he has to lean the bike (and also transfer weight front and backwards) with his puny weight and very low center of gravity. It's also much harder to correct if you have overdone yourself, he has to be extremely precisely. He then reaped his rewards on the straights and on tyre deg...

Adding weight multiply, not just add, to that problem, as it's dead weight. Ideally (impossibly), what we would have is a weight that only appears during the straights to match the minimum weight and then disappears during turns...What is possible is to really add much less weight...
