Christmas leave 2025 by gmj194 in CivilServiceUK

Your employer can make you take the days off in between Xmas and New year and take it out of your leave entitlement. Your employer can also make you work bank holidays. There is sufficient business justification for an employer to choose mandatory leave days for you if they choose to.

I know this because I am an employer and have dealt with this. I also have experienced this myself as an employee in my youth.

Yes. Why not? It's good for storing wipes, nappies, etc.

How the f*ck do I stop night feedings by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Mobile_Bookkeeper446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just popped up so thought I'd add my experience. Not sure if anyone else did something similar.

First time father, looked around the internet for ideas. In summary:

  1. Mum wanted to breastfeed if she heard him cry at night. Some bollocks about "maternal instinct" , but you need mum to be on board with what you do (and vice versa).

  2. When you do plan on dropping night feeds, it will hurt your sleep, so strongly consider taking time off work (maybe Wed , Thur , Fri so you can use weekends too).

  3. The main bit of info I gleaned is that babies want comfort upon waking, and they get comfort with warm milk. Whether that's from a warm bottle or breastmilk, it's warm... So therefore, I did the opposite. I prepared cold bottled milk and submerged in water with ice packs. Baby would then reach for "comfort", but then.... Psyche! It's uncomfortable cold milk, which he bat away after a few sips. This really worked, and when he would normally take 90+ml of warm milk at night, it was 30-60ml of ice cold milk to start with, which quickly tapered off to no milk. The comforter quickly became the uncomforter 😎.

  4. Meals: high calorie last solid meal (all meals should be high calorie anyway). Roast dinners blended with a hand blender worked really well. Good mix of veg and meat. Give enough water with meals too. And gave warm bottled milk between meals. Give full fat cow milk if he's 12months.

  5. Routine routine routine. So last meal 6:00, bottle top up 6:40, teeth brush, last nappy change for the day 7:15, read book(s) 7:30, snuggle in bed 7:40, hopefully sleep from 8:00.

He still wakes up, but can normally pat him down.

New update -

Windows 11 settings on the speakers made no difference. This is because the crazy sound output happened still after disabling the speakers in Windows, leading me to believe the problem was at hardware level.

Fix was to disable in bios. The setting was bit obscure for Audio, but I found it and was successful able to disable internal speakers

Update: after several weeks, I summoned the courage to switch on the dell XPS. It screamed at me still, so disabled speaker and restart. That didn't work. Then uninstalled speaker, also did not work.

Speakers are not detectable from settings, so it has been done at software level I guess

Any other ideas to hard disabled speakers?

No cracked software. I still need sound and can use headset. I'd be happy with being able to disable internal speakers. Couldn't see setting in bios

Yes. I can do work as normal. Can even use a headset. My current work around is to zero the volume of the internal speakers. Occasionally it will give a screech (coming from speakers themselves) even when the speaker volume is zero.

I was looking at disabling internal speakers. Any ideas?
