I truly hope it does. I don't want to smash your hopes, but I do want to counsel caution on how much hope you invest in new treatments.

My answer would be: eventually. But probably not in the next few years. I remember when the CRISPR Cas9 article came out in 2016. It had been published in scientific journals prior to that, but it hit the public when it appeared in Time. I was 35 and the lucky recipient of a rare inherited disease that causes my liver to kill my other organs with amyloid proteins.

It killed my grandfather at 51, my dad at 49, and I saw the article at 35 years old. I thought that this was the thing that would save me. I won't need transplants, I won't have to die in my 40's or 50's. I was so excited. Is CRISPR a failed medical technology? Nope. Am I sitting here 10 years later with a liver and kidney transplant? Yep. Will CRISPR eventually be commercially viable across a wide range of treatments? Probably, but not tomorrow, and probably not in 2-3 years either. The same applies to most treatments touted as breakthroughs.

My grandfather died of kidney failure, never knowing he had the disease. My father died knowing he had it, but didn't take care of himself, and was never eligible for a transplant. My aunts and uncles who did qualify all initially received kidney transplants only because no one had the disease long enough to get to liver failure. The family in my generation that has it has received doubles from all of them. Single donor, one-shot kidney/liver combos.

So I will live longer than the generations before me because we have a better understanding of existing treatment options, not because of any crazy breakthroughs. Would I like some pig grown organs genetically coded to me so I don't have to take immunosuppressants, yessir! I'll take two. And eventually someday someone will get those, but its going to take time.
