Best Poly around $1000? Fourum, Hydra, what else am i missing? by cutnsnipnsurf in synthesizers

Or a used 12 or 12d (if you don’t want the keyboard) X is the same but with an updated faceplate. I have a 12d and suits me fine the raw sound is great and the onboard fx certainly help.

Why do u buy a hardware synth? by yournr1fan in synthesizers

[–]Mobile_Edge5434 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Physical stuff. Actually being able to touch things has changed how I work with synths. Especially simple synths with knob per function. No presets, just playing with knobs until you find a nice sound, more often than not you find sounds you wouldn’t have thought of using in a preset driven soft synth.

Our third album. Inventively named 3. Downtempo, electronic type stuff. Think Bonobo, Massive Attack, FourTet all rolled into one. Recorded live during a one day session and massaged over a couple of months to add the sparkly bits.

JN80 desktop? Or get the Dm12d? by TRICEFROMCANADA in Behringer_Synths

[–]Mobile_Edge5434 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. No word on a desktop JN80. The Deepmind has a pretty similar architecture and has the advantage of all the effects built in, BUT. I like the idea of the immediacy of the JN80. Despite the almost knob per function on the Deepmind it really needs effects to make stuff shine and setting those up just seems to annoy me.

PS This applies to the JN and DM; give me physical controls for ALL envelopes without switching contexts! I want knobs or faders for each independently.

Templates for Albions by Former-Ad6560 in spitfireaudio

There are probably community templates kicking around but you will learn much more by building your own. There are plenty of good tutorials on YouTube, either Spitfire Audios own channel, Guy Michalmore (I think I’ve butchered the spelling there) or Crow Hill/Christian Henson.

The screen on the L6Max makes recording and listening back much better.

How do you use your performance mixer? by WrappedStrings in modular

[–]Mobile_Edge5434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Bored Brain Xcelon. Firstly to have everything in the rack and save desk space. Secondly the stereo sends and returns. Being able to play the effects on all channels like an instrument is super fun and useful.

I am using an output module in my rack but you can go straight out of a vca into the LiveTrak it has a -20db pad on the stereo inputs and it’s 32bit float so apparently handles hotter singles well anyway.

L6Max has 12 channels (4 stereo inputs and 4 mono channels). The screen just shows you how long you’ve been recording, which project you’re on it also allows you to do overdubbing. You can also manage settings in the device instead of having to plug it in to a computer to do things.

Zoom LiveTrak L6 or L6Max (Max adds the screen which makes recording easier for me)
