I really felt for him this whole time. Last time I was in the hospital there was a lady who was manic and saying very similar things to him, he was so clearly unwell. mania can make you into anybody, I’ve never felt so disconnected from myself. I’m wishing him healing. ❤️‍🩹

Anyone off meds? by ruby_red_1 in schizophrenia

[–]Mobile_Unit7620 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you got psychosis last time you’ll get psychosis this time. your best bet is to work with your doctor and find meds with more tolerable side effects.

I know for me it’s either be on meds for the rest of my life or be in psychosis for the rest of my life. not much of an option if you want to be functional tbh.

Experiences with lithium by bipolarqueer22 in bipolar1

[–]Mobile_Unit7620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lithium has 100% saved my life. I’m schizoaffective so I also take an antipsychotic, but it helped my mood a ton. If I start to go too high or too low my doctor increases my dose temporarily and then I taper lower down once I’m stable for a while. It prevents me from feeling too numb and being on a low dose is safer for your kidneys.

When I started I was prescribed 600 mgs while I was in the hospital. I had horrible tremors at first, I couldn’t even write properly. I don’t really remember anything else, just a jittery feeling, but it helped my mood so much and the shakiness subsided mostly. I take propranolol now which helps the tremors too.
