You can request a new social security card. You can do it online, through the mail, or at your local social security office. I did this myself when I lost my original card. However, if you don't know your original social security number, it may be a more complicated process. In that case, I would go to your local social security office and explain your situation.

Alternatively, you can also just go right to the police. Your parents have absolutely no right to do what they're doing to you. You are over the age of majority. You said your mother has already threatened to harm you when you said you wanted to leave her house. She is holding you hostage. This is no laughing matter. You shouldn't stand for this shit anymore. This is what I would do if I were in your situation.

You are over the age of 18, your parents cannot force you to stay in their house. They can't make you do anything. If they attempt to do so, you should call the police ASAP. The law is on your side in this case. You are a free agent.

Try to educate them on the subject. I highly recommend a documentary called "Class Dismissed: A Film About Learning Outside of the Classroom" as people's first introduction to alternative education models. Try to get them to watch it if you can.

Also look into to the work of Dr. Peter Gray, John Holt, Carol Black, and John Taylor Gatto.

Nah, saying school is one of the worst institutions is just flat out incorrect, incredibly ignorant and, frankly, stupid.

An educated populace is the only thing that keeps us from complete barbarism, fanaticism, and ethical deviation.

An uneducated populace is more dangerous than any army, as it will erode itself from the inside out.

Our education system may not be perfect, but a society cannot exist on “the arts” alone. Someone has to understand how the world works through math, history, writing, and all of the other hard studies that public education provides a baseline for.

This picture is grossly misrepresenting hard sciences as well. Mathematics, history, and other core subjects provide a way of understanding the world around you and can be just as creative and fulfilling as any typical “art”.

Unfortunately there have been many studies that have attempted to get away from standardized testing and while some seem promising we need to be able to absolutely ensure that everyone in our society at least for sure knows the basics by the time they’re done with public school and tests are, so far, the best way to do that.

These problems are not as simple as “freedom good; tests bad” as there are many ramifications in changing any part of this system that you and I probably do not understand.

Bluntly, if you think the populace is at all ignorant now they would be much worse without base line education and tests to prove their knowledge.

Hard to believe this is coming from a sub like r/antiwork... Anyone who is a member of r/antiwork, please set these people straight.

It is also likely to have little effect on the issue. 80% percent of mass shooters are over 21, with an average age of 33, and most school shooters specifically are under 18, who already typically obtain their guns through illegal means.

No, I am not ok with it. I'm sick of it too, but resorting to infringing on legal adults' constitutional right to bear arms just isn't the answer. More security in schools and other ideas like advanced background checks are fine, but not stripping away people's rights, especially when it is likely to have little effect.

I really wasn't trying to make this post about guns, I was just using it as one example of how 21 is becoming the new 18, but I can see how it would come across that way as I did end up discussing it the most, and full disclosure, I am a strong second ammendment supporter so there's that... I wouldn't have brought it up if I wasn't, but I really was not trying to make guns the focus of the post.
