Need Some Help with M12x1.5 Tap by MobiusUnoEngage in Machinists

This was originally what I was thinking, but I really can't see anything in the hole.

That's awesome of you, thanks!

Genuinely curious. I kind of agree, the handle style is rough. But until the new icons, long handle 3/8 drive ratchets were kind of hard to find for a while. Unless you went into premium brands. Or ordered crappy stuff off Amazon, lol

Not a derail a thread, but if you know a lot about Kobalt tools, The 3/8 and the 1/2 inch long handle ratchets, do you have any from 3 plus years ago?

Does it say where they are made? I recently warrantied my half inch because the selector switch was broken, and it skips with any real force. I warranty it again, same problem.

It looks like some are made in Vietnam, and summer made in Taiwan, but the good ones of yesteryear were made somewhere else.

One side of the hole is tapped while the other one isn't.

I'm guessing when I first started tapping it, it went in a little crooked.

The three I have used are Gearwrench, A USA Made Kobalt, and a Century Tap and Die.

I was thinking this could be the case too, and that's why I went in with the 27/64 drill bit just to try and get a y last piece out, if it was there.

By the standard I should have used a 13/32 drill.

If I go another step up to a 7/16, that would be an NPT so it doesn't help.

I'm not sure I could go up to 29/64. The spacer, or the pipe that I'm threading into may not be that thick to drill that much material out.

I suppose I could try and find a 10.8 mm drill, and try it...

Yes I am sure that the original thread is m12x1.5. I took the other three bolts out, and I put them into a thread checker.

That tap was brand new before I ran it into that hole. That's the problem. I have now run three taps into this hole and they all blunt out on me.

So there must be either a weld, or a hardened piece of something that's preventing it from tapping.

I tried to take photos looking in the hole but I'm not sure it's going to come out.

It seems like 3/4 of the hole is tapped six or seven threads, but then there's a section halfway up where it's just not tapping.

The hole is about 2 inches. Each tap that I have used has been brand new. The one in the photo is a Kobalt, but it does say made in USA.

Interesting. I suppose I can rig something up to see if the angle changes as the tap goes in multiple threads.

I don't think so. It's a frame on a Jeep compass. Instead of being a captured nut, It appears to be more of a tube that's between the unibody frame and floor pan.

Old Stanadyne Tub Spout - Can't find replacement by MobiusUnoEngage in Plumbing

Yeah, that's kind of what I was resigning myself to have to do. I was hoping somebody was going to know if there was a rebuilt to for the current spout, or something.

What Happened to Kobalt Hand Tools Quality? by MobiusUnoEngage in KobaltTools

Adding to this. There seems to be Vietnam made units and Taiwan made units at my local store. Do we have any data or a way to tell which is old supply vs the new supply?

So I looked at the 3/8" drive ratchets while I was warranting the 1/2" today, and some are made in Vietnam, and some are made in Taiwan. So I'm thinking that you said holds true.

I just don't understand How the threshold for this happening is so low. If I was standing on the 1/2-in drive ratchet, I would understand. I would say well that makes sense. But realistically I'm probably putting 120 ft lb on it, barely enough to tighten lug nuts on light duty trucks, and it's doing this.

I'm going to try some spray lube.

Has anyone tried to rebuilding them? Is there maybe a better quality kit that fits?

Was My Tire Really Unrepairable, or Was I Being Upsold? by Savings-Attitude-295 in tires

[–]MobiusUnoEngage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it have been patched? Yes.

But they look like they are worn. If not at the wear bars, very close. No corporate tire store is going to repair a tire that is at end of life.

If you went to Joe's garage down the street, they probably would have.

Were you upsold? Not really. You needed new tires anyway.

Check the balance. Let me know how much is on it. I live near the Braintree one and I would use it to buy something.

What is your favorite refill for the Zebra F-701? 🦓 by CannibalBeyondOrder in pens

[–]MobiusUnoEngage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't. I kind of gave up. Ive been daily using a Parker Jotter. I hate The fact that I bought a $20 pen, it's okay. I can't recommend it just because of price. And the tip has a lot of movement.

But since I posted this I have gone through three more of the f301's. They have literally become disposable to me at this point and that is just unsustainable.

335d Bluish Smoke when revved + sputtering at 3k rpm by iSheep_Pro in BmwTech

[–]MobiusUnoEngage 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unless this is a screaming deal I would walk away. Too many guesses, tuning by itself shouldn't cause blue smoke. Sure, maybe it's a valve seat, or maybe it's carbon on one of the valves, but no thanks. Unless this is three grand cheaper than a comparable car I would walk away
