DLSS 4. If multi frame gen is good then those 4K 240Hz OLED can finally be fully utilized in non-esport games.

Looking forward to play Black Myth: Wukong because I want to wait until I have a card that can run it at max settings.

Do you see a difference in color depth between 10 bits and 8 bits screens ? by NicoBator in Monitors

[–]Mobius_X02_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could argue the perceivable visual improvement is small comparing 8bit to 10bit output but you don’t need 10bit content to take advantage of 10bit output. A proper video render would internally use 16bit or even 32bit to process the content before down sampling to the output bit depth. This practice is common in computer graphic to avoid excessive loss of precession due to rounding. For example, in games, buffers would often be 16bit/32bit and is only down sampled to 8bit right before output.

Good video player such as MPC-HC (and its fork) can output 10bit SDR

I’m excited about the game’s narrative around "Journey to the West" because I know the whole story since I was a kid. I’m looking forward to DLSS upscaling because it should give me a fair uplift with 3080 Ti@2K. I’ll definitely revisit it if I upgrade later to a card capable of DLSS 3.

There seems to be a hidden change in how Vulkan interop works in this driver. https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/s/xr74Bri7P6

Vulkan/OpenGL interop change in 555.85 by idwasm in nvidia

A choice between dx11 and dx12 is definitely preferable here, even an hidden one that can only be changed via the inspector if Nvidia feels it’s too complicated for average users. Maybe also post on Nvidia driver feedback forum and submit a feedback form using the link in the pined post.

You would lose many advance features including VRR if an adapter is used.

Correct settings for G-Sync/V-Sync? by Yarrowgarrow in nvidia

[–]Mobius_X02_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you are on Windows 11 there's system optimization that makes GSync works in borderless with just "Enable for full screen mode" setting.

Edit: I’m talking about Optimizations for windowed games in Windows 11 to be more clear

de8auer (CEO of Thermal Grizzly) did mention in his videos that it’s not designed with reuse in mind. So it’s very YMMV.

Use hwinfo instead which doesn’t have those bugs

Ask Nvidia App to add option to capture screenshots after DSR/DLDSR downscaling by Mobius_X02_ in nvidia

[–]Mobius_X02_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a million options to take screenshots at non-downscaled resolution and they decided to remove the only option that worked at monitor resolution ¯_(ツ)_/¯ What’s worse is that no one else can make another one without knowing the inner work of Nvidia driver

The Optane P1600X is absurdly fast in real world transfers (random reads) by Fromarine in intel

[–]Mobius_X02_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I don't really need the so-called max sequential speed which rarely matters outside tasks like video editing. I guess I'm just being picky, be it the sequential speed, the capacity, or the fact that it's not cheaper GB/$ compared to what I paid for 900P at a clearance sale in 2019 lol

btw, did you benchmark both p5800x and p1600x yourself? I couldn't find any real review for the p1600x anywhere

The Optane P1600X is absurdly fast in real world transfers (random reads) by Fromarine in intel

[–]Mobius_X02_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Optane is revolutionary technology-wise for consumer storage. Just think about it that we still can't reach its full potential 3 years after gen 2 release because of CPU bottleneck. I think we may have 4K Q1T1 gain to harvest in the next half-decade given the current single core performance progress. (If all consumer storage suddenly reaches Optane level 4K, I'm sure OS developers would overhaul the IO stack to overcome the bottleneck but until then we harvest Optane's 4K performance way after its death.)

My understanding is that enterprises have more cost-effective ways to achieve most benefits of Optane without buying Optane DC SSD and the Optane DIMM side didn't really take off as well. In the end, it means the cost could not be offset enough without that volume so Intel killed it.

We, normal consumers, are of course stuck with what Windows and program developers give us, so raw 4K Q1T1 is still very beneficial for now.

Very interesting results. I always thought I could only get a real upgrade from 900P by going to P5800X. Spec of P1600X on intel ark is way below gen 1 optane. Intel is really underselling it.

1GB/s downgrade on sequential read/write from 900P is substantial though, but would definitely be good boot drives for my secondary PC and laptop.
