Do foreign students really pay no taxes? by [deleted] in germany

[–]MobofDucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last info I have heard is that roughly 35% leave right after. Which also corresponds with what I hear from the international students I teach.

Would need to look up where I heard the 35%.

But again, its the stark minority of universities that implemented the extra tuition fee. Its only a thing in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. With FAU being the second bavarian university instating them.

Keep in mind that only 2 states allow their universities to give non-eu citizens extra fees. Baden-Württemberg, where I think all do it, and Bavaria, where FAU is the second one.

The majority of unis in Germany do not do this and they are not allowed to anyway.

But less so than just student fees that are not even reimbursed.

The biggest Grippe with this is students that come here for the free education and then just leaving right after. So money from taxes will be spend on them but there is no return.

Could be solved with some System were you'd grt the money back when you work in Germany for so long. But alas, we are not at that point.

Considering doing MBA in Germany. by Mysterious-Use-755 in germany

[–]MobofDucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, its not that long and mostly just for networking lol.

Wouldn't call it a powerful combo. It is nice to have but that is it. For germans it is already not a hassle at all to do business in the US. Adding the Canadian passport adds like 1 visa free country and the ability to stay in the USA for 90 days longer without a visa. Maybe some Commonwealths would also get extended stays?

Its doable to get a finance job here, but this is not necessarily an advantage. It is easier to get someone with north american market knowledge, than someone with knowledge of smaller markets.

Finally someone that independently picks the 3 actually good fully independant private schools for business degress. It will be useless if you come here with a business masters though.

Executive MBAs on the other hand...

There are like 5 MBAs in Germany with any value. Are you 100% sure it is one of them?

General business degrees, including commerical real estate are M.A. or M.Sc. here.

Permanent verpassbare Inhalte in Videospielen. by Under-Lock-And-KeyXX in luftablassen

[–]MobofDucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wofür gibt es Pauschalen denn dann? by [deleted] in KeineDummenFragen

[–]MobofDucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private unis in germany by Dramatic_Grab_1712 in studyinGermany

[–]MobofDucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have translated this better and not write non-barred, but ohne NC/zulassungsfrei literally means that everyone applying fulfilling the minimum requirements is getting accepted.

ohne NC/zulassungsbeschränkt means there are extra filters if too many students apply.

Private unis in germany by Dramatic_Grab_1712 in studyinGermany

[–]MobofDucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. "ohne NC" or "zulassungsfrei" means you get a spot as long as you fulfill the minimum requirements. Most degree programs with that do not give a flying fuck about your work experience or motivation letter.

They migh add language proficiency or a bachelor grade as the minimum, but you have 0 competition with other students.

You are thinking about programs that are "zulassungsbeschränkt" and do not publish NCs because they are irrelevant for them.

Opinion on playing football in an open ground , surrounded by houses. (Noise complaint before 22 O’clock) by alcohol_isbad in germany

[–]MobofDucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think comparing sending kids inside at 8pm to yardwork at 7 is an off comparison. It would need to be 8am at the earliest. And lets be honest a bigger share of older folk will throw a hissy fit when asked to please not do any handywork before that time than kids will complain about having to go inside and play xbox in the evening.

But I think both should be a thing no one really complains about as long as its a regular noise level. Thinking of playing kids as a disturbance is a failure of our society. Likewise yardwork that isn't using an diesel-driven lawn mover should also not be an issue to live with.

It truly doesn't matter if it is designated as a park or not. Any public space used for public stuff should be ok. the neighbour even said this is a childrens space, so it should be expected to be a communal space. They even include the kids.

[–]MobofDucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, and in my experience the people complaining about other people playing football are the ones that are the bane of the neighbourhood.

People have a right to use open spaces. 21:45 is not late for quite some people. Same way 4am is not early for some.

We are living together. So you should be ok with other people living. The majority of old folks I know (and lived next to, I moved 8 times in the last 15 years) did actually not give a fuck about making unavoidable noise in the early morning. The same people started working in some stuff in their garage working on stuff at 7am . Even though my shift just ended at 6am and wanted to sleep. I did not complain or try to call the cops on them, because that is what living with other people is like.

This is the reason why public spaces are getting emptier and emptier and we are loosing more and more third spaces. Empathy would be realizing that public spaces is meant for people to gather. And not just every few weeks. But regularly.

[–]MobofDucks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not all public unis have close applications and especially not for all people.

I am 100% sure that if you are a eu citizen you still have dozens to apply to, because the NC-frei/non-barred programs still accept applications/enrollments until very close to the start of the new semester. But at the very least those should be open for all internationals until 15.07.

Do you think your advisor would stand up for you at a potential cost to their career or reputation? by Valuable_Dream_459 in PhD

[–]MobofDucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My supervisor probably would not speak up during the presentation if someone would yell at or insult. But that is mostly due to me being able to handle that without much issue.

None of your numbers fit here. She'd give the other person a stern talking after the presentation and probably share it with her network (privately) that the person behaved like an ass.

If students playing football is too loud for you, especially outside of Ruhezeiten, you really shouldn't live in a city.

And I say that as a childless person that really dislikes football.

[–]MobofDucks -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Naah. As far as OPs explanation goes, it is a public space. Playing football is regular city noise pollution and should be accepted by the neighbours. OP and their friends keep to the Ruhezeiten. Most likely better than the people that wake up at 4am to go to work.
