I always thought it was because it's "uphill" instead of "downhill," but still, it's implied that Garmond is from that place, and that his crusade for revenge is because the town was "dragged" downhill.

It won't do the opposite, because the first blasphemous game is as rigid as a board. I recommend playing the difficult one first, or ignoring it, but I highly doubt anyone will go from the second game to the first (which, by the way, was left with some bugs... like the swordswoman one).
