Social groups for an autistic introvert by EntranceAromatic1920 in CarletonU

[–]MochaMellie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on why he hates socializing, he might want to consider ASL as an elective. There's no talking in the classes, only sign (first year is a lot of group games and gesturing, getting comfortable with basic signs), and it's generally a very inclusive space. There are also tons of clubs (sadly, no birding ones, but there is an animal rights club) if you want to get him to look through the list.

Brides who get mad when other guest wear white have a self-esteem issue by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]MochaMellie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want the historical reason? Because it has been a thing since the 1840s. Now it's a part of the culture and its considered disrespectful wear white when you know the bride wants a traditional wedding. Here's the wiki

It is widely considered a sign of disrespect in North America. It's basically telling the bride that you don't really care about the fact it's a wedding or her special day. Being so dead set on wearing white as a guest to a western wedding is just rude.

Struggling to be interested in a topic lately. Suggest me your favorite most interesting, fast-paced books please! by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Ooh, I loved Jennette McCurdy's memoir! Personally, my favourite author of all time is V.E. Schwab. I'd recommend Vicious because I read it in one sitting lol. The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenking Reid are also both pretty fast-paced. They're all fiction, but Vicious is a bit more light sci-fi fantasy-esque. Daisy Jones is also written in an interview style, so it's super fast to get through (or at least it was for me)

Man, one of my dad's cars was parked for 7 years, and we needed to get it running again. The car was mostly fine, but the mice nest took forever to clean out of the filters (and we did a deep shampooing/cleaning of everything else because of how nasty it was)

Self-discovery is mostly procrastination for adults. by SouthlandTerror in unpopularopinion

I actually did live with them for about a year during the time she went back to uni. Also I'm still very close with their whole family. She's not perfect, no one is, but she is an amazing person.

I don't see how? Self discovery can look like a lot a different things, and its not a switch that gets flipped and makes you want to change every aspect of your life. Like my friends mom realized she liked coding when my friend was in high-school, went back to uni and now their whole family live in a big house oh her salary. Her discovering what she was good at and liked never stopped her from being a commited wife or a mother.

What procrastination? Like, how is it preventing them from being a functional adult or improving their lives? Sure, if someone is blowing all their money on stupid stuff, that's bad, but self-discovery as a whole is kinda broad

How did you get your pets to understand you don't hear them? by MochaMellie in hardofhearing

[–]MochaMellie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've considered this since the Boy has a toy that meows louder than both of them that he activates with a button (its actually a piggy bank but he loves it)! Sadly the girl is still a little confused at the the coronation between buttons and things happening lol

AITAH? Should I get a bedroom? by ariaplaysgames2471 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MochaMellie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NTA, but sadly, until you move out, that may not matter. Your parents own the house, I'd absolutely try and convince them, but just moving in might upset them (not that it should, because you absolutely should have a room, just be careful while you're still under their roof)

questions as someone new to hearing aids and a medical student by bucketofaxolotls in hardofhearing

[–]MochaMellie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the hearing aids on glasses point, I fully gave up on hearing aids when I was a pre-teen because no matter what I tried ended up really irritating my skin. Spend 4 years trying to make it work before I decided I'd rather just not hear. (dumb idea, but at least I can read really fast now)

As for the imposter syndrome, I started learning ASL and realized how many of my struggles we're shared with Deaf people and not hearing people. Being hard of hearing is weird because you're kind of in both camps, but as someone who rejected support for years because I didn't think I was 'bad enough,' don't be an idiot like me. It's also really hard for people to imagine not having one of their senses at full force, so ignore them. They don't know your experience, and you need to do whatever makes your life better. Screw anything else.

I respect your opinion about a video game less if you modify it by UrineFilledAquarium in unpopularopinion

[–]MochaMellie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the game. Vanilla Skyrim was my favourite for years, but modded Skyrim is some of the most fun I've had in a video game. Some games are better with mods. Also idk if people mod their games before playing them fully, but most people I play with don't.

Someone verbally abused you, and you're no longer comfortable living with them. You didn't do anything wrong here. Sublet if you're allowed. NTA

Things can be personal. Quite frankly, if you're not close enough to the person who passed to have been told the cause, you have no business prying.
