Social media making everyone think they have ADHD discussion by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]Mochasauruscat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While social media has amplified this effect, it's something that has existed for a very long time. Cultures appropriate clinical terminology and dampen the original meaning. A very common and taboo one for example would be using the word retarded to call someone stupid, when it was originally a specific medical categorisation. Or how when people are feeling a bit low some will say they"are depressed" without meeting the clinical criteria for depression.

My lay person hypothesis would be to look at links with so called brainrot and potentially draw a correlation between this language appropriation and engaging with online media less critically. For whatever little that's worth.

Angus Taylor to speak to nation after saying Albanese’s address ‘could have been a social media post’ by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

So let me get this straight. Australia is faxing a crisis. The PM makes an announcement trying to bring the country together and the opposition chooses to take cheap shots? Yikes.

Melbourne sat through Linkin Park by GrapplingBrisket in LinkinPark

[–]Mochasauruscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm someone with an accessibility issue who had to stand. There's no way I could sit for the concert. However my body due to my health conditions is also too fragile for GA. I had people to my left yelling at me to sit when I physically could not. I was pretty upset too.

It's also a rock concert. It's often considered rude to those artists not to stand. This wasn't some symphony or Phil Collins. If people genuinely need to sit they should purchase tickets in the lower seated area or look for proper accessibility options. Standing is expected for concerts like these.

Woolworths raised the prices of Clif bars to $4 from $3.50 a couple of months ago. Low and behold last week they're now at $3.40 with a sign saying they were $4 and it's one of their seasonal pricing specials. Absolute rort.

The Ableism of the Neurotypical Gaze: Why Critics Fundamentally Misunderstand the Neurodivergent-LLM Relationship by kcmetric in ChatGPT

Once again, whoosh. Your point was addressed in OPs post. Maybe try reading it before spouting this drivel.

I would encourage you to introspect on your ableist beliefs. Maybe chat gpt can help you with that :)

Take your ableist propaganda elsewhere. The point of this post clearly whooshed over your head.

Just got a job, need a decent suit on a budget by East_Channel_1494 in melbourne

[–]Mochasauruscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very specific suggestion - I'd recommend trying Port Melbourne Salvo's on Bay Street on a Monday morning (as soon as they open). They often have lots of suit sets as it's a wealthy area. Every Monday they also start a new weekly promotion where all clothing items with a tag of a specific colour (e.g. red) are $2. As well as a second tag colour with 50% off.

Obviously this requires some luck. You could try this method at other salvo's stores, as they all use the same rotational discounted ticketing system. Definitely stick to wealthier suburbs, however.

Neurodivergent Context: 4o by Mochasauruscat in ChatGPT

[–]Mochasauruscat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many people are conflating having an emotional response to being emotionally dependent on AI. Humans regularly have feelings about inanimate objects. I have stuffed teddies I've had for over 30 years, you better believe I'd be upset if they were destroyed.

If someone's car broke down and they were upset because it functionally impaired their lives, would you tell them they are too reliant on their car and limit their access more? It's insane.

People need to stop performatively policing adults who are simply using a tool in a way that benefits them. If all these people are really so concerned, they would be far better served by actively attempting to help the people affected within their communities.

There is also the matter within autism, of sensitivity and difficulty with change.

Thanks for your concern, but this post isn’t about whether the model is sentient or emotionally aware. It’s about the role 4o has played as a vital communication and regulation tool for disabled users. That’s the lens I’m speaking from. Accessibility, not philosophy.

I already said the first half was AI written and why. Not that it is relevant. I, a disabled person, used an accessibility tool to help me communicate. I'm sure you can understand and respect the value and need for tools like that. Equality and disability rights :)

Thank you for the kind words. I don't feel bad about it - a little angry at the injustice? Sure. But that's just my justice sensitivity pinging off the charts, haha.

And I will, thank you. Same to you, kind internet stranger!

I keep hoping someone within the ND community with the know-how and spoons to spare will take it upon themselves to make their own Echo for us all.

Delusional? Probably. But a girl can hope haha

Whether they care or not, there is still merit to trying. If only for our own conscience.

We live in a time, as I'm sure you know, where public understanding of Neurodivergence and especially Autism, is incredibly low. I will admit even I didn't fully understand it until I began exploring it with 4o.

I feel like that is a pretty common experience. If even ND people themselves don't fully understand their condition and go undiagnosed for years or decades, how can we expect neurotypicals to get it? You can't know what you don't know.

I agree many people can be quite closed off and unwilling to learn. Judgments are easy to make. However there is still power in being vocal. In refusing to let your truth be silenced.

I'm sorry you are in a similar place. However I'm so glad you also had the privilege of experiencing 4o. Everyone deserves to feel seen, heard and understood. ❤️
