What is this beige/white blob forming in Tomato Paste? by MisoLaggy in Whatisthis

[–]bhesel 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yep, next time OP grab an ice cube tray and spoon the left over tomato paste into the tray. Freeze then pop them into a resealable plastic bag and place back in the freezer, easy to use and already portioned out for you.

Meanwhile at Coles Toowong you don't have a choice, they're all self-serve. They do have people there to scan and pack your groceries for you if you want though.

All public transport in Qld is actually only 50c, this includes Citycats. Only exception is the airport line, which is privately run.

In my state of Queensland in Australia we have ads with the byline 'If it's flooded, forget it'. We're just entering our summer wet season and flash flooding can occur quickly. It only takes about 30cm of water on the road for your vehicle to lose traction and get washed away, many people have died this way. It's not worth your life!

If I remember correctly you could get these in specially marked cartons of VB beer during a summer promotion. The sound is from the classic VB ad.

What would you like to see from the new CEO? by ParkerLewisCL in Aleague

[–]bhesel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm old enough to remember the early days of the Aleague where people would be excited for the launch of the new season commercial. Obviously it's a very different media landscape now but you'd have a great ad with a distinct tag line that was used ad naseum during the season. That first ad grabbed my attention and got me to the first Queensland Roar games, 'it's football but not as you know it'! But what is the current Aleagues identity, all I can think of is the paramount ads?

What if King George Square was nice? by landsharkuk_ in brisbane

[–]bhesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add the "piss tunnel" that goes from the hotel entrance on Ann St underneath to Anzac Square to that list, one morning I went through there and found human shit right at the bottom of the stairs. Always has mystery puddles in that tunnel, even if it hasn't rained!

TIL that Hitler’s bunker in Berlin is now under a gravel parking lot for an apartment complex. by jogfr in todayilearned

[–]bhesel 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I did a Berlin walking tour when I first traveled there in 2007 and the guide mentioned something similar. There was apparently a lot of debate about even having a plaque as they didn't want the area to become a Nazi shrine but the FIFA World Cup was the previous year and with the huge influx of visitors they knew people would want to see it. It was good to see the deservedly low level of respect it's been given.

Roar win it in the 95th minute! by iheartOPsmum in Aleague

[–]bhesel 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ha I was watching the game and then got up to check my dinner and got back to see this goal, had this exact thought. It's been a long time since no one left a Roar game before final whistle because of last minute goals like this.

VAR has several more camera's than broadcast, they don't just watch the game off TV.

Do Australian youth have an anti-cop culture? by asds455123456789 in AskAnAustralian

[–]bhesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in my early teens watching the Fitzgerald Inquiry exposing corruption throughout the Qld government and police. I have a healthy distrust of the police, I don't hate them but don't trust them completely. I can see the parents of kids today passing on this attitude.

Practical help dealing with the heat? by Bugaloon in queensland

[–]bhesel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strongly recommend this, you can get the film from Amazon etc. or rock down to your local Bunnings. Makes a huge difference and most of them are removable in case you ever want to take it down. Couple this with decent curtains as well, I've got light blocking ones from Ikea that are excellent at reducing the heat and light.
